Abstract

Ulama have taken an important role in the people of South Kalimantan, not only in terms of social cohesion but also in the forerunner of Muslim settlements. Taking the case in Sekumpul Martapura, This study tries to identify the development pattern of the Sekumpul settlement delineation due to KH Muhammad Zaini Abdul Ghani's da'wah activities, and identification of changes in the function of the area. The settlement delineation spatial-sprawl obtained by Google Earth and Geospatial Information Agency and supported by structured interviews with key informants using a snowball sampling technique. The results showed the expression of spatial delineation development in the Sekumpul area run naturally and adapted what looks like an octopus pattern with the road network as its dominant factor. In the 1980s until recently the Sekumpul area has experienced three times changes in its function, from the center of propagation, residential, into economic functions with its religious tourism concept. There were no specific guidelines found in the da'wah material regarding the technical aspects of spatial development. One important message conveyed by KH Muhammad Zaini Abdul Ghani was to uphold the rights of guests. This concept was then very tightly held by the residents of Sekumpul, which impacted on the maximum provision of facilities and infrastructure for the pilgrims.

Abstract

The evolution of Indonesian vernacular architecture research is examined using bibliometric analysis. We investigate publishing trends, authorship patterns, thematic focuses, and geographical distribution of research from 2000 to 2024 using Scopus data from 89 publications. Since 2015, research on sustainability, cultural identity, and preservation has increased significantly. Analysis shows a fragmented research community with room for more collaboration, especially between domestic and international organizations. Java and Bali are the most researched, indicating a geographical imbalance. Disaster resilience, digital documentation, bioclimatic performance, sustainable tourism, and vernacular urban adaptation are trends. The study finds research gaps, notably in eastern Indonesia, and advises additional research. Researchers, policymakers, and practitioners studying and preserving Indonesia's rich architectural legacy can benefit from this comprehensive review. This project maps the present research landscape to assist future research and preserve Indonesian vernacular architecture.

Abstract

This study examines Banjarmasin City's low-income slum residents' views and housing preferences. To fully grasp their lives is the goal. This study seeks to explore the numerous elements affecting these communities' residential decisions and objectives. Additionally, it investigates the viability of implementing setting-specific urban policies and interventions. Our study used systematic review and thematic content analysis. Our 16 sources included qualitative investigations, quantitative surveys,  and policy publications. Our study covers demographics, slum living, residential preferences, economic limits, health risks, and natural disaster susceptibility. This study highlights the resilience of the people, their desire for better housing, the economic constraints of informal employment, the health risks of inadequate sanitation, and their susceptibility to natural disasters. The study's use of ambitious goals and community-based solutions sets it apart from prior research. Access to work is also a major factor in residential preferences, especially in Banjarmasin. This study enhances our understanding of urban life in slums and emphasizes the need for situation-specific urban policy. Our research suggests community-driven projects have great potential, emphasizing the need for localized solutions. This work advances urban planning and development by allowing low-income communities to shape their own futures. Future research should examine the long-term consequences of localized initiatives and the scaling possibilities of community-driven development strategies in urban areas.
