Abstract

Abstract

The evolution of Indonesian vernacular architecture research is examined using bibliometric analysis. We investigate publishing trends, authorship patterns, thematic focuses, and geographical distribution of research from 2000 to 2024 using Scopus data from 89 publications. Since 2015, research on sustainability, cultural identity, and preservation has increased significantly. Analysis shows a fragmented research community with room for more collaboration, especially between domestic and international organizations. Java and Bali are the most researched, indicating a geographical imbalance. Disaster resilience, digital documentation, bioclimatic performance, sustainable tourism, and vernacular urban adaptation are trends. The study finds research gaps, notably in eastern Indonesia, and advises additional research. Researchers, policymakers, and practitioners studying and preserving Indonesia's rich architectural legacy can benefit from this comprehensive review. This project maps the present research landscape to assist future research and preserve Indonesian vernacular architecture.

Abstract

This study examines sustainable facility development strategies in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) via a comparative analysis of Pondok Pesantren Assalafi Al Fithrah and Pondok Pesantren Al-Amanah Junwangi. The research utilizes qualitative approaches such as facility documentation, direct observation, user surveys, and management interviews carried out from August to September 2022. Analysis identifies eight essential characteristics for sustainable facility development: water conservation, energy management, waste management, health concerns, disaster readiness, sustainable site management, and environmentally friendly materials. Results indicate that effective implementation necessitates both passive and active environmental solutions. Passive strategies in architectural design demonstrate efficacy through natural ventilation systems, ideal building orientation, and the incorporation of green spaces, whereas active strategies, such as waste management systems and energy conservation programs, exhibit inconsistent levels of performance. The research delineates principal obstacles to implementation, such as deficiencies in technical skills, expenses associated with infrastructure development, spatial limits, and issues in operational management. The study presents an optimization methodology that highlights integrated resource monitoring systems, centralized waste management facilities, improved passive design elements, and reinforced community participation initiatives. These findings offer a thorough framework for the creation of eco-friendly pesantren facilities, enhancing both theoretical comprehension and practical implementation strategies for Islamic educational institutions aiming for environmental sustainability objectives. Future research prospects lie in the development of quantitative assessment methodologies for facility performance and the enhancement of stakeholder engagement in environmental management initiatives.

Abstract

Garbage is still seen by some people as waste that is not useful, not as a resource that can be utilized. The approach to reduce at source and recycle resources through the implementation of 3R is a more comprehensive waste management policy. Sidoarjo Regency as one of the buffer zones of Surabaya City on a daily basis produces a large volume of waste. Based on data from the Department of Sanitation and Landscaping of Sidoarjo Regency, waste management in the region has not been implemented comprehensively. Although around 100 units of Garbage Banks have been formed on a community scale, the operational activities of each unit have not been optimal. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data was obtained by direct interviews with the Village / Village residents of the Prohibition and questionnaire, which were then analyzed. The amount of waste volume managed every month on average (Kg) shows a good amount. Waste waste is also used to increase the income of the waste bank customers in particular. Problems that occur both internal problems of institutions, technical problems, and problems outside the institution, internal problems of the institution that occur quite a lot is due to lack of awareness of the community to participate in waste management, while technical issues and problems outside the institution are not so significant. The existence of government support is needed in the sustainability of the waste bank in the Larangan District of Sidoarjo Regency, while the government support that has been implemented includes the provision of composter, supporting equipment, savings books and socialization to the community. Keywords: Garbage, waste management, waste bank.
