Abstract

As a plural and multicultural country, Indonesia faces significant challenges in achieving harmony and national unity. A society made up of diverse ethnicities, cultures, and religions generally leads to complex issues. In fact, conflicts often revolve around the construction of places of worship, leadership transitions, and other matters. Banuroja Village is a community with diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds, yet its people manage to live harmoniously. This research aims to explore the factors that enable the people of Banuroja Village to live harmoniously. It employs a qualitative approach to describe and analyze the social behaviors of the community through the sociological approach of the Quran. The data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings of this study indicate that the Banuroja community effectively actualizes Quranic values of religious moderation. The community has actualized the value of tawassut{ (moderation) and I'tidal (justice) as well as fostered balanced attitudes toward diversity, as reflected in peaceful and equitable leadership transitions. The embodiment of tasâmuh (tolerance) is seen from the absence of conflicts during the construction of worship houses because of respecting diversity. Furthermore, the emphasis on Shûrâ (consultative decision-making) has reinforced social solidarity within the community. Additionally, the commitment to al-La'unf (non-violence) and I'tirâf al-‘Urf (recognition of local customs) has fostered the development of a peaceful and harmonious social order. The actualization of these Quranic values positions Banuroja Village as a model of successful religious moderation, showcasing a community life free from inter-religious conflict.

Abstract

The focus of this research is to analyze contemporary interpreters' interpretations of polygamy. The author utilizes a purely qualitative descriptive research approach through an interpretive literature study. Some contemporary commentators in Indonesia, such as Hasbi, believe that permission for polygamy is not forced except for people who really believe they can act fairly and avoid cheating, and if a wife is no longer able to fulfill her obligations as a wife, such as she is old or suffering from illness. According to Hamka, Surah al-Nisa verses 2, 3, and 4 have a close relationship. Hamka emphasized that this verse aims at monogamy, not polygamy, because, according to him, this verse is only a valuable lesson for its readers and is not to be done. Meanwhile, according to Wahbah, this verse discusses fair behavior and the prohibition of doing injustice to orphans and women if they are not able to give a dowry to an orphan, it is forbidden for him to practice polygamy.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the object of the philosophy of the Qur’an by beginning with an explanation of the signs of the Qur’an about the source of knowledge, namely: first, the universe; second, human reason itself; third, the source of knowledge that comes from revelation. In addition, the method of obtaining knowledge is also explained, namely first, knowledge is obtained by humans through sensory perception (al-h}issi> ) or it can also be said through empirical experience (al-tajri>bah), second, through the baya>ni method (language analysis), third, through analysis of logical and rational thinking (naz}ariyah ‘aqliyah) or in the popular term burha>ni method, fourth, through intuition and contemplation or ma’rifat al-qalb after going through the riya>d}ah process and muja>hadah so that muka>syafah occurs, or better known as the ‘irfa>ni method, and fifth, through revelation and direct testimony (syaha>dah) of trusted people for the revelation to the prophet God, otherwise known as the al-matlu> method.

Abstract

Openness to interpretive approaches reveals a shift in both the authority and methodology of Qur’anic interpretation. This study aims to analyze Johanna Pink’s exegetical approach in understanding issues of gender, queerness, and their genealogies within the context of contemporary Muslim Qur’anic interpretation. The main focus of this research is to examine how Pink frames tafsir as a social and historical practice shaped by the context of communities, media, and the global networks of the muslim ummah. Data collection in this study employs library research and uses a descriptive-analytical method. Overall, the critiques discussed in this research demonstrate a general consensus that Mun’im Sirry’s approach is perceived as a liberal reinterpretation, deviating from what is considered legitimate exegetical authority, and thus is likely to gain acceptance only within limited circles particularly the LGBT community, which is the subject of his interpretive defense. Meanwhile, al-ʿUmarī offers a sharp critique of both traditionalist scholars and Salafi-oriented groups. He strongly opposes the tendency to regard established beliefs as the sole form of truth, while rejecting doubt as a meaningful part of religious experience. According to him, such an attitude itself constitutes bidʿah a concept that is, ironically, central to the contemporary salafi theological framework.
