Abstract

AbstractMedan City is a combination of several ethnicities and cultures, because in Medan there are several Acehnese, Batak and Malay ethnic groups. Medan has a Malay Deli building with exotic religious and artistic nuances to visit, especially if we like typical Malay buildings such as the Al Osmani Mosque building which still elevates and preserves cultural arts even though there has been a renewal of traditional architecture into modern architecture, but the Malay building still has value. aesthetics with various types of ornament forms, colors, placement of Malay ornaments and also the acculturation of various cultures. Al Osmani Mosque was first built in 1854 with selected wood materials imported from Penang. During the VII Deli Malay Sultanate, namely Sultan Osman Perkasa Alam. Then in 1870 - 1872 the wooden mosque was built permanently by his son, Sultan Mahmud Perkasa Alam (VIII Sultan of Deli). The Al Osmani mosque building was designed by a German architect named GD Langereis with materials sent from Spain and Persia. This study uses a historical approach and aesthetic approach. The historical approach will involve a discussion of the origins of the building form of the Al Osmani Mosque and its functional development since it was founded until now. The aesthetic approach will involve a discussion of the dome shape of the Al Osmani Mosque, what cultural acculturations are there in the Medan Al Osmani Mosque building so that it can attract attention and have unique characteristics? The results showed that the Al Osmani Mosque and its interior as well as the space filling elements in it were not fully influenced by the aesthetics of the forms that came from the Deli Malay culture but were also influenced by the aesthetic forms of Chinese, European, Indian and Middle Eastern cultures.Keywords : Acculturation, Ornaments, Aesthetics, History, Al Osmani Mosque.  AbstrakKota Medan merupakan perpaduan dari beberapa etnis dan budaya, karena di Kota Medan di dapati beberapa etnis Aceh, etnis Batak dan etnis Melayu. Medan memiliki bangunan Melayu Deli bernuansa seni dan religi yang eksotis untuk dikunjungi khususnya jika kita menyukai bangunan-bangunan khas Melayu seperti Bangunan Masjid Al Osmani masih mengangkat dan melestarikan seni budaya meskipun terjadi pembaharuan arsitektur tradisional menjadi arsitektur modern, tetapi pada bangunan Melayu tersebut masih memiliki nilai estetis dengan berbagai jenis bentuk ornamen, warna, penempatan ornamen Melayu dan juga akulturasi dari berbagai budaya. Masjid Al Osmani pertama kali dibangun pada tahun 1854 dengan bahan kayu pilihan yang didatangkan dari Penang. Pada masa Kesultanan Melayu Deli ke-VII yaitu Sultan Osman Perkasa Alam. Kemudian pada tahun 1870 - 1872 masjid yang terbuat dari bahan kayu itu dibangun permanen oleh putranya yakni Sultan Mahmud Perkasa Alam (Sultan Deli ke-VIII). Bangunan masjid Al Osmani di desain oleh arsitek asal Jerman yang bernama GD Langereis dengan material yang dikirim dari Spanyol dan Persia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sejarah dan pendekatan estetika. Pendekatan sejarah akan menyangkut pembahasan tentang asal-usul bentuk bangunan Masjid Al Osmani dan perkembangan fungsionalnya sejak didirikan hingga sekarang. Pendekatan estetika akan menyangkut pembahasan tentang bentuk kubah Masjid Al Osmani, akulturasi budaya apa saja yang terdapat pada bangunan Masjid Al Osmani Medan sehingga bisa menarik perhatian dan memiliki ciri khas yang unik?. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa Masjid Al Osmani dan interiornya serta elemen pengisi ruang di dalamnya tidak sepenuhnya dipengaruhi oleh estetika bentuk yang berasal dari budaya Melayu Deli tetapi juga dipengaruhi oleh estetika bentuk dari kebudayaan China, Eropa, India dan Timur Tengah.Kata Kunci : Akulturasi, Ornamen, Estetika, Sejarah, Masjid Al Osmani.

Abstract

Handicrafts have become an integral part of Indonesian society as a form of livelihood that also has artistic value with selling prices that vary depending on the level of difficulty. There are many types of handicrafts, such as those made from woven bamboo, ceramics, used materials, beads and leather. The development of fashion in the current era is very rapid. One of them is beads. Beads are small decorative objects that have various profitable business opportunities. The discovery of beads was part of the Indonesian cultural revolution because of their important function and quality so they are still produced and used from the past until now. The aim of this service is to improve the quality of human resources and increase the existence of MSMEs through bead craft training, namely making cellphone straps, bracelets and key chains. The methods used are coordination, training, mentoring, follow-up planning and reflection. The process of implementing this work program is gradual, continuous and ongoing. The results of the bead craft training activities had a positive impact in that all residents who regularly took part in the training succeeded in practicing it independently, so that creativity and innovation in producing contemporary products could be realized. The results of the interviews at the reflection stage showed that all participants who initially could not make bead crafts, after going through training were 100% able to make the bead products they were interested in. So this bead craft training is highly recommended as an increase in creativity.

Abstract

Communication is the most important activity in everyday life, language and writing are effective communication tools both verbally and visually, communication in a visual context will be conveyed through typography. As time and technology develop, typography plays an important role and presents many types and styles of letters almost every day which have their own characteristics and uniqueness, one of which is the modern typeface which has minimalist and geometric shapes as benchmarks. The design of this modern typeface typography aims to create letters, numbers and punctuation characters that have their own uniqueness and characteristics by exploring the potential shapes that exist in the Ulos Sadum Mandailing motif ornaments.

Abstract

This training aims to equip students of SMA Swasta Pangeran Antasari Helvetia Labuhan Deli with basic skills in designing and printing business cards as well as name label stickers, which they can utilize for academic purposes, organizational activities, or even small business opportunities. Additionally, this training encourages students to better understand their own potential and express it through functional visual media.In this training, the instructor uses the Canva application. The training method employed is an applicative or case study approach, starting with the introduction of the design tools to the participants before delivering the core materials. The case study method is an approach that emphasizes an in-depth analysis of a particular issue through detailed exploration.The outcome of this training provides participants with valuable skills and knowledge in utilizing easy-to-use, multi-platform design tools. These abilities will have a positive impact across various contexts, from education to entrepreneurship, and will continue to support participants in enhancing their creativity and broader design capabilities.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to develop students’ visual art skills and strengthen the institutional image of Universitas Potensi Utama through the creation of a mural on the university campus. The mural was chosen as a medium due to its ability to convey educational messages, build visual identity, and enhance public spaces effectively. Involving lecturers and students from the Visual Communication Design program, the project was carried out in several stages: concept planning, sketching, coloring, and finishing. The final result is a 2.5 x 31-meter mural that illustrates the spirit of education, cultural diversity, and innovation. The outcomes of this activity include improved technical and collaborative skills among students, enhanced campus visual identity, and increased appreciation for murals as a medium of visual communication. Thus, this initiative not only contributes to the campus aesthetics but also serves as an effective institutional promotion strategy through participatory art.
