Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the geopolitical dynamics of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan influenced its support for Palestine in the context of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. Using a geopolitical approach, this study examines Jordanian–Palestinian relations before and after the normalization of Jordanian-Israeli relations in 1994, as well as Jordan's response to changes in the regional political landscape, including post-Abraham Accords. This study uses a qualitative method based on literature analysis to examine the political, economic, and strategic factors that shape Jordan's foreign policy. The results show that Jordan's strategic geographical position, limited resources, and historical role as the custodian of Jerusalem's holy sites greatly influenced the direction of its policy. Although Jordan has established pragmatic cooperation with Israel for stability and economic interests, the country maintains diplomatic support for the Palestinians, especially regarding the issue of Jerusalem and the rights of the Palestinian people. The study concludes that regional geopolitics significantly shape and limit Jordan's foreign policy space.

Abstract

The New Southern Policy (NSP) Plus, an initiative by South Korea to deepen its ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), presents a unique opportunity for enhanced bilateral cooperation and development, particularly with Indonesia. This research delves into the dynamics and potential of this intensified partnership, focusing on its implications for domestic and international economic and social empowerment. This study is anchored in the neoliberal institutional theory with the Keynesianism perspective within international relations, offering a nuanced perspective on international cooperation’s mechanisms and multidimensional outcomes. Employing a qualitative research method and descriptive analysis, this study examined the complementary aspects of Indonesia and South Korea’s economies and how these synergies can elevate the NSP Plus initiative from a bilateral framework to a more expansive model of international cooperation. This research posits that the mutual benefits derived from this partnership are pivotal in fostering closer ties and can potentially be replicated in other areas of international collaboration. A significant aspect of this study is the exploration of the government’s role as a policy facilitator and the active involvement of the private sector and broader community in these cooperative efforts. This multi-stakeholder approach is critical in understanding the dynamics of international cooperation and its impact on societal elements. Furthermore, this research applied the Keynesianism concept of the five-multiplier effect on economic growth to analyze how the NSP Plus policy can bolster domestic development cycles. It includes job creation, market expansion, and investment market growth, all facilitated by the private sector’s engagement. The study aims to comprehensively understand the NSP Plus initiative’s potential in strengthening Indonesia-South Korea relations and its broader implications for regional economic development and international cooperation.

Abstract

On April 1, 2024, Israel launched an airstrike on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus that killed two senior Quds Force generals and seven members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The attack triggered a retaliation from Iran on April 13, 2024. This study aims to analyze Iran's retaliation policy against Israeli attacks from the perspective of Wilayat al-Faqih as the basis of the government system in Iran. The descriptive analytical method based on qualitative research is applied in analyzing Iran's retaliation policy, which uses a literature study technique in data collection. The results of the study show the implications of the Wilayat al-Faqih system in Iran's retaliation policy, which are shown in several points of analysis, namely: Iran's retaliation policy is the policy of the Supreme Leader and President of Iran; Iran's retaliation policy is a form of 'True Promise Operation' which is based on the Wilayat al-Faqih system as a determinant of the direction of Iran's foreign policy; and The existence of socio-political support from countries, such as: Russia, China, North Korea along with several international organizations, such as: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union which also strengthen the direction of Iran's foreign policy in the context of state defence based on the Wilayatul Faqih system. This study provides insight into how ideology can influence a country's policy in the dynamics of international conflict.
