Abstract

Hampir tiga tahun pandemi Covid-19 melanda seluruh belahan dunia.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic had a tremendous impact on psychological burdens and may lead to suicide acts. Suicide is a global mental health problem that happens all over the world. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the suicide rates and estimate the category of male-female suicides. This study analyzed suicide data from the Gunungkidul Resort Police from April 2018 to April 2021. Gunungkidul Regency is one area in Indonesia with a high suicide rate. From that time of period, there were about 97 suicide cases as the sample of this study. This article estimated the suicide trend using time series forecasting and Chi-square tests to find potential differences before and after the outbreak. Chi-square analysis showed that there was no difference in the pattern of suicide before and since the COVID-19 pandemic (????2 = 12.05; p > 0.05), as well as the male rates (????2 = 20.17; p > 0.05). However, suicide among females has increased since the outbreak (????2 = 23.43; p < 0.05), especially among the elderly. This article recommended providing a support system, strengthening social networks, and widening the access of women and the elderly to health and psychological services during the pandemic.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop the Metacognitive Skills Assessment in a Research Proposal Writing Context (MSARPW), a multidimensional measure, based on student perspectives, for assessing metacognitive skills in thesis writing, and assess the instrument’s psychometric properties using item factor analysis (IFA) and multidimensional item response models. The 40-item MSARPW was administered to 602 Indonesian university students (Mage = 25.254 SDage = 6.854). The IFA showed that the two-dimensional factor structure of MSARPW was satisfactory; however, only 24 of the 40 items were found to fit the model. Multidimensional graded response models (MGRM) were applied to the subsequent 24-item MSARPW, which showed that one item (Item 4) did not satisfy the criteria. The estimated reliabilities of each subscale showed that the 23-item MSARPW has good internal consistency (0.891 and 0.902). To conclude, the 23-item MSARPW appears to be a valid and reliable tool for assessing metacognitive skills in the context of research-proposal writing among Indonesian university students.

Abstract

The 5-item World Health Organization Well-Being Index (WHO-5) is a frequently used brief standard measure in large-scale clinical studies. However, no research specifically on the validity test of WHO-5 was found in Indonesia before the pandemic. This study aims to test the validity of the Indonesian version of the 5-item WHO-5 in the COVID-19 pandemic setting. The online survey was used to collect data from February-2021 to September 2021. 1,084 Indonesians who were directly or indirectly affected by COVID-19 completed the survey. The scale was validated with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Item Response Theory (IRT). The CFA and IRT analysis showed that the WHO-5 is valid. Thus, the WHO-5 is a short questionnaire that consists of five non-invasive questions adequate to measure the psychological well-being of the Indonesian sample, especially during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and could be used in other pandemics or crises.
