Abstract

Background: Spontaneous vaginal birth risks the mother receiving perineal stitches due to episiotomy and spontaneous tearing. Each individual's pain response is unique and relatively different. Overcoming pain can be done pharmacologically using analgesics and non-pharmacological methods including skin stimulation strategy methods, sensory stimulation strategies and cognitive strategies. Various types of aromatherapy are jasmine, lemon, ginger, jasmine, rose, cinnamon, lavender. Objective: To achieve the effectiveness of aromatherapy intervention in reducing the pain scale of postpartum perineal wounds. Method: Search for research articles in several databases using certain keywords in the 2016-2022 period. The search results obtained 7 articles using midwifery interventions, 7 articles that met the inclusion criteria. There were 7 articles included in the category so they were good for further analysis. Critical analysis of 7 articles was carried out based on design, population and sample, sampling, treatment, parameters, findings and conclusions. Results : Literature review shows that current aromatherapy interventions in the form of complementary health services vary greatly in terms of methods, components, duration, individuals involved, specificity and effectiveness. Statistical analysis shows that all of these methods have resulted in a significant reduction in the pain scale of postpartum perineal wounds, recommendations for health workers to take special training beforehand and have competence in administering measures to reduce the pain scale of postpartum perineal wounds.

Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia is a major health concern among adolescents, yet compliance with iron supplementation remains low. This study assessed the level of adolescent compliance in consuming iron tablets after video-based education, compared to conventional methods. A quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group design was conducted at SMP Negeri 13 Manado. The independent variable was video-based education, while the dependent variable was compliance with iron tablet consumption. Participants were 60 adolescent girls selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria (aged 12–15 years, diagnosed with anemia, and willing to participate). The experimental group (n=30) received weekly iron tablets and a video intervention, while the control group (n=30) received only iron tablets. Compliance was measured using self-reported questionnaires, observation checklists, and pill counts. Data were analyzed using bivariate analysis. This study found that while iron supplementation significantly improved hemoglobin levels in both the video intervention and control groups (p=0.0001), the educational video did not enhance compliance rates compared to standard care (p=0.754). The experimental group showed a mean hemoglobin increase of 1.51 g/dL versus 1.59 g/dL in controls, suggesting comparable biological efficacy regardless of educational approach. The study demonstrated that iron supplementation effectively increased hemoglobin levels in adolescents, but video-based education did not significantly improve compliance compared to standard care.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a metabolic disorder that develops during pregnancy and increases the risk of maternal and neonatal complications. The global prevalence of GDM ranges from 14% to 16.7% and continues to rise. Awareness among pregnant women regarding GDM risk factors remains low, highlighting the need for promotive and preventive efforts through screening and health education. To conduct blood glucose and body mass index (BMI) screening to detect early GDM risk and to increase pregnant women’s knowledge and awareness of GDM prevention. The activity was conducted on June 23, 2025, in Likupang Satu Village, Likupang Timur District, North Minahasa Regency. Methods included body weight and height measurement, blood glucose testing, and health education on healthy pregnancy. Evaluation was performed using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. A total of 27% of participants had a history of diabetes, 53% were at risk of GDM based on MUAC, and 87% were at risk of obesity based on BMI. Screening revealed 13% at risk of GDM. Knowledge improved significantly, with the “good” category increasing from 7% to 53% and mean scores rising from 58 to 70. Screening and education on GDM effectively improved pregnant women’s knowledge and awareness of prevention, supporting early detection and risk control during pregnancy. Keywords: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Screening, BMI, Education, Healthy Pregnancy.
