Abstract

Background: The prevalence of anemia in teenagers is 32%, meaning that 3-4 out of 10 teenagers suffer from anemia. This is influenced by suboptimal nutritional intake habits, inappropriate food choices and lack of physical activity.. Objective: This research is to identify LILA, HB Levels and Nutritional Status of Level 1 Students of the D3 Midwifery Study Program, Manado Health Polytechnic. Method: This research is quantitative research using a cross sectional design. The research population was Diploma III Midwifery Study Program students with a total research sample of 60 people. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique with inclusion criteria, namely that young women had menstruated and were willing to become research subjects by signing informed consent. The data was analyzed using the Chi-Square statistical test. Results: there are more respondents with Normal LILA than those with KEK, HB levels are mostly normal. And the nutritional status of students based on BMI measurements is mostly normal, but there are still students with nutritional disorders. Statistical tests show that there is a relationship between KEK and the nutritional status of young women, there is no relationship between HB levels and nutritional status in teenagers. Recommendations for young women to consume food with balanced nutrition to meet nutritional requirements so that they can avoid CED and consume blood supplement tablets to avoid anemia, according to the Government program. Young Women take 1 Fe tablet once a week for 1 year.

Abstract

Background: Breast milk (ASI) production is a common factor and a key determinant in the success of breastfeeding. Many mothers often complain that their breast milk either does not come out or is produced in small quantities. Although breast milk has tremendous benefits, not many mothers are willing or able to provide exclusive breastfeeding for six months. The failure to provide exclusive breastfeeding can be influenced by the lack of nutritional support. Several studies have indicated that papaya (Carica papaya) has the potential as a natural galactagogue that can stimulate breast milk production. The bioactive compounds in papaya, such as the enzyme papain, vitamin A, vitamin C, flavonoids, and other phytochemicals, are known to support metabolism and tissue health, including the mammary glands. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of papaya (Carica papaya L) in increasing breast milk production among breastfeeding mothers at Kauditan Public Health Center, North Minahasa Regency. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-randomized pre-test and post-test approach. A total of 35 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Normality was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test, which showed that the data were not normally distributed (p < 0.05), so the Wilcoxon test was used. Results: The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference in breast milk production before and after papaya consumption (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Most mothers produced less than 80 ml of breast milk before the intervention, increasing to 80–150 ml afterward. Variations in milk production were influenced by individual nutritional status; thus, support from husbands and families is essential to meet the nutritional needs of breastfeeding mothers. Conclusion: Papaya is effective in increasing breast milk production in breastfeeding mothers. It is recommended that mothers consume papaya regularly during breastfeeding to help enhance milk production.

Abstract

The global infant mortality rate remains a cause for concern, with 2.6 million babies worldwide not surviving beyond one month, and one million succumbing at birth, as reported by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). This study, conducted in North Minahasa district, seeks to address this issue by analyzing the effectiveness of Oxytocin Massage and Baby Massage, coupled with family support, in promoting the smooth production of breast milk. Employing a pre-experimental method with a one-group pre-and-post-test design, the research investigates the impact of Oxytocin Massage and Baby Massage on breastfeeding mothers and the subsequent release of breast milk. The findings, analyzed using Paired T Test, reveal a significant effect of both massages on breast milk production, with a p-value of 0,00. Oxytocin massage proves effective in facilitating breast milk release, as evidenced by the observed reduction in breast tension before breastfeeding (pre 23%, post 93,33%) and an increase in breast milk leakage (pre 23,3%, post 93,3%). Similarly, baby massage demonstrates effectiveness in promoting smooth breast milk release, reflected in increased breastfeeding frequency (pre 43,3%, post 66,7%), higher urination frequency (pre 40%, post 56,7%), and improved post-feeding sleep quality (pre 43,3%, post 96,7%). The study underscores the role of family support in optimizing breast milk flow, advocating for the implementation of Oxytocin Massage for breastfeeding mothers and Baby Massage within the household. This approach holds promise in addressing global infant mortality concerns by fostering healthier breastfeeding practices through accessible and family-centered interventions.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a metabolic disorder that develops during pregnancy and increases the risk of maternal and neonatal complications. The global prevalence of GDM ranges from 14% to 16.7% and continues to rise. Awareness among pregnant women regarding GDM risk factors remains low, highlighting the need for promotive and preventive efforts through screening and health education. To conduct blood glucose and body mass index (BMI) screening to detect early GDM risk and to increase pregnant women’s knowledge and awareness of GDM prevention. The activity was conducted on June 23, 2025, in Likupang Satu Village, Likupang Timur District, North Minahasa Regency. Methods included body weight and height measurement, blood glucose testing, and health education on healthy pregnancy. Evaluation was performed using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. A total of 27% of participants had a history of diabetes, 53% were at risk of GDM based on MUAC, and 87% were at risk of obesity based on BMI. Screening revealed 13% at risk of GDM. Knowledge improved significantly, with the “good” category increasing from 7% to 53% and mean scores rising from 58 to 70. Screening and education on GDM effectively improved pregnant women’s knowledge and awareness of prevention, supporting early detection and risk control during pregnancy. Keywords: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, Screening, BMI, Education, Healthy Pregnancy.
