Abstract

A palm oil company in Dumai carries out a refining process aimed at converting crude palm oil (CPO) into edible oil. The refining process involves several steps, including gum binding (degumming), bleaching with bleaching earth, and the removal of certain components (deodorization). During the process, oil losses often occur, particularly during the bleaching and deodorization stages. The lost oil is typically discarded along with Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) and Palm Fatty Acid Distillate (PFAD). Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the total oil losses during the refining process and the yield of RBDPO products, as well as to identify the factors that influence the oil losses and RBDPO yield. Analysis shows that the Total Oil losses in the refining process range from 0.12% to 0.22%, and the yield of RBDPO obtained ranges from 94.7% to 95%. Oil losses in Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) are directly proportional to BE dosing in the bleaching process. Meanwhile, deodorized oil losses are inversely proportional to the purity of PFAD. The yield of RBDPO is influenced by total oil losses and the FFA content of CPO as raw material. The total oil losses and the FFA content of CPO as raw material are inversely proportional to the RBDPO yield.

Abstract

CPO is a crude oil obtained by extracting the palm fruit’s skin. CPO still contains both soluble and insoluble impurities in the oil. The purpose of palm oil purification is to efficiently convert crude palm oil into high-quality edible oil by removing undesirable impurities to an acceptable level. This also means that the loss of desirable components should be minimized. The refining process, which transforms crude palm oil (CPO) into edible oil, includes degumming, bleaching, and filtering to remove gum and unwanted components. In the Niagara filter, oil losses often occur, where the lost oil is usually discarded with SBE (Spent Bleaching earth). The extent of oil losses also affects the yield of RBDPO. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze total oil losses in the Niagara Filter process and identify the factors influencing these losses. The analysis results show that oil losses in SBE are directly proportional to the dosing of BE (Bleaching earth) in the bleaching process. The highest oil loss value in the Niagara Filter was 0.180%, while the lowest was 0.129% (company standard <0.14%). High oil losses can negatively impact the yield of the produced oil.

Abstract

CPO (Crude Palm Oil) is yellow-colored crude palm oil derived from the extraction or forging of palm fruit flesh. Factors that determine the quality of CPO production are the levels of free fatty acids, moisture content, levels of impurities. The purpose of the analysis is to analyze how big the deviation of quality of CPO that is free fatty acid content, water content and dirt level by using control chart chart mean (X) and control chart range (R), identify the cause of problem (deviation) of quality of CPO with a causal diagram (fishbone), and provide suggestions for improvement to improve the quality of CPO that occurred. Results obtained from 28 samples were the number of samples outside the control limit for ALB levels of 12 samples with percentage of 43%, water content of 10 samples with percentage 36%, and dirt level that is 6 samples with percentage 21%. The most influential cause when viewed with the fishbone diagram of raw material, machinery and human factors. From the analysis results can be concluded that the quality of CPO production PT X produced there is still data outside the control limit. The quality of CPO produced is influenced by raw material, human and machine factors.

Abstract

Batik Jembatan Akar Small and Medium Industry (IKM) endeavors to produce Root Bridge batik fabric, which is a defining feature of the IV Nagari Bayang Utara sub-district. In its production process, IKM Batik Jembatan Akar still relies on rudimentary and traditional equipment and lacks the means to handle textile waste, leading to its disposal in nearby ditches. While the current waste output may not be significant, its continuation poses a threat to the local environment. Insufficient awareness of the environmental impact of textile waste can result in environmental pollution issues and disrupt community harmony around IKM Jembatan Akar. Additionally, IKM Batik Jembatan Akar struggles to stimulate consumer interest in traditional batik amidst the abundance of low-priced printed alternatives. The limited demand for production means that this SME has yet to invest in technology and waste processing equipment for its batik cloth production. Politeknik ATI Padang Community Service initiative seeks to educate all IKM Batik Jembatan Akar employees on the importance of waste processing and online marketing strategies, while providing training on donated textile waste processing equipment to enhance sales value and mitigate environmental harm. The approaches employed in this community service endeavor include (1) comprehensive activity planning, encompassing location surveys, production assessments, and inventory checks; (2) the fabrication and testing of waste processing machinery; (3) educational workshops covering waste management in batik production and its environmental implications, alongside practical training in equipment usage; (4) evaluation of activity outcomes. The outcomes of this Community Service initiative include the provision of textile waste processing equipment and a heightened awareness of environmental conservation, facilitating the integration of waste processing equipment into batik production at IKM Batik Jembatan Akar.

Abstract

Several MSMEs in Padang Panjang City are engaged in livestock and processed meat and poultry products. These MSMEs can still be said to be small businesses because they implement a pre-order (PO) system for marketing, the variety of products offered is quite diverse, but limited knowledge about quality meat processing and market demands related to food products that comply with halal principles, and effective marketing strategies are not yet well understood as seen from the product packaging which still looks simple. The purpose of this community service activity is for MSMEs to be able to develop and improve product quality, increase competitiveness in the market, and contribute to local economic growth. The ATI Padang Polytechnic Team provided assistance including the introduction of meat processing techniques to create new product variations such as good and halal sausages, selection of quality raw materials, and the right marketing strategies to increase product competitiveness. The activity was carried out on August 20, 2024. The results of the Community Service activities were shown from the questionnaire given to participants. It is known that MSMEs in Padang Panjang city have been able to understand about natural and artificial food additives, healthy and halal meat processing processes, halal certification, shelf life of processed meat products and effective marketing methods.

Abstract

The partners involved in this PKM activity are farming communities in Nagari Matur Mudik, Nagari Lawang and Nagari Tigo Balai, Matur District, Agam, Regency West Sumatera. Most of the people of Nagari Matur Mudik, Kec. Thanks, Kab. Agam has a livelihood as a farmer. The Community Partnership Program aims to increase the economic value of agricultural commodities in Nagari Matur Mudik, Nagari Lawang and Nagari Tigo Balai, Matur District, Agam Regency. Sales of agricultural raw materials are still constrained in the distribution/sales process which is only limited to traditional markets. Efforts are being made through the processing of agricultural raw materials into delicious and nutritious products, as well as having competent selling points in the market. The methods used in this program are counselling and training methods. This program works with the PKK team and the farming community as partners in the centre for processing agricultural products into food products for the trading community. The flow of activities includes the preparatory stage in the form of observations to related offices/agencies. Then the implementation stage, namely counselling and training for the community in Matur District, which is centered at the Nagari Matur Mudik Village office, Nagari Lawang and Nagari Tigo Balai. With direct participation by the community, the result was the community already understand about knowledge given so it is hoped that new and creative ideas will emerge by the community in processing agricultural products so that this program can be sustainable as a concrete effort to continue to improve the economy of the local community.
