Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of pandemic disease outbreaks, treatment or prevention patterns carried out by the Bugis-Makassar community, although they have been equipped with modern knowledge about the handling of disease outbreaks, they still do some ritual outbreaks in which each of these rituals is called Assongka Bala led by a person called Sanro. This study uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach to describe the role of Sanro in Assongka Bala rituals, data collection techniques used are interviews and observation. This study aims to: Describe the role of Sanro in the ritual handling of outbreaks in the Bugis-Makassar community. The role of Sanro in Sanro's knowledge of ritual prevention and treatment of disease outbreaks in his community as well as knowledge of ritual management performed so that people who believe in needing a Sanro to lead the ritual. The Bugis-Makassar community, in their practice of life, is related to the social, cultural and handling of disease outbreaks, the community has a belief in the rituals of Assongka Bala which then becomes traditional values ​​that affect their knowledge about handling epidemics and also influences their behavior in maintaining health, namely the behavior system is generally divided into two types, namely in the family environment and customary environment.

Abstract

It is believed that men are different from women in communicating their ideas and feelings through the communication system called language. This article divulges how gender factor influences EFL instructors’ instructional talks in Indonesian context. It goes over findings of a case study undertaken at two colleges in Makassar, South Sulawesi. In the study, four EFL instructors (two male and two female) of the colleges were purposively chosen as the subjects, and the data leading to the findings were obtained through classroom observation. The findings reveal that the male instructors’ instructional talks are quite stiff and typically stimulate instructor-centered atmosphere, while the female instructors’ are more genial and naturally stimulate instructor-students harmonious interactive communications. Thus, it can be inferred that while the male instructors tend to be ‘commanders’ in front of the class, the female set themselves as amicable “mothers” to the students.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the development of Islamic boarding schools as a forum for the community to include their children as hafidz Qur'an but there are several problems encountered, namely related to management in the management, this study aims, namely: 1) To find out how the management of the tahfidz program in improving student memorization at the Al-Ikhwan Topoyo Islamic Boarding School, 2) To determine the inhibiting and supporting factors of the tahfidz program in improving santri memorization at the Al-Ikhwan Topoyo Islamic Boarding School. In compiling this research, there are several theories that are used as the basis for researchers' policies in conducting research, it will be an instrument to see whether the theory is in accordance with the facts on the ground, therefore this type of research is qualitative research with the method used is the qualitative descriptive. Based on the results of the study, the management of the tahfidz program at Al-Ikhwan has been regulated as well as the activities in the cottage starting from dawn at 03.30 until evening at 21.30. The inhibiting factors of the tahfidzul Qur'an program in improving the memorization of students at the Al-Ikhwan Topoyo Islamic boarding school are a special place for memorizing the Qur'an, time management, the laziness of some students, and the food consumed. While the supporting factors are: an Islamic environment, avoiding cellphones/gadgets, and applying methods that can strengthen students' memorization.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of wordwalls on vocabulary mastery in learning English. The research method used is quantitative with a one-shot case study, namely grade 8 junior high school. Data was collected through a questionnaire with a Likert Scale. Data analysis techniques use techniques to determine effectiveness and percentages. This study concluded that on the pronunciation indicator, as many as ten students stated that they strongly agreed, and only 1 student stated that they did not agree with a percentage of 74.3%. Furthermore, in the spelling indicator, as many as seven students stated that they strongly agreed, and 2 students stated that they did not agree with a percentage of 72.1%. Furthermore, the indicator of meaning, as many as 8 students stated that they strongly agreed and 2 students stated that they did not agree with a percentage of 74.3%. Thus, an effective wordwall improves vocabulary mastery by 73.5% or is effective in learning English.

Abstract

Guru sebagai tenaga pendidik memiliki tanggung jawab terhadap perkembangan peserta didik. Kompetensi guru harus dikembangkan secara berkelanjutan. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru dan pemahaman menggunakan Fun English terhadap Penguatan Pendidikan Karakter (PPK) di SD Negeri Kalukuang II Makassar. Sebelum pengabdian dilaksanakan, terlebih dahulu tim pengabdi melakukan observasi awal dan berdiskusi mengenai pelaksanaan workshop yang berfokus pada PPK, topik materi yang disepakati, dan jadwal kegiatan. Selama proses PKM berlangsung, mitra didukung untuk menggunakan metode Fun English sesuai dengan tujuan yang ingin dicapai dalam pengabdian yaitu meningkatkan kompetensi guru dengan Penguatan Pendidikan Karakter (PKK). Metode pelaksanaan yang sudah diimplementasikan terdiri dari 4 tahap yaitu survei lapangan, koordinasi dengan masyarakat, pelaksanaan program dan tahap evaluasi. Substansi Materi yang disampaikan nantinya melalui metode role play, ceramah, tanya jawab dengan melibatkan guru bahasa Inggris di SD Negeri Kalukuang II Makassar. Tim pengabdi berupa menyajikan materi secara excited dengan memberikan praktik langsung yang dapat bermanfaat dalam proses kegiatan mengajar di kelas yang pada akhirnya memberikan benefit yang besar terhadap peningkatan kompetensi.
