Abstract

This paper will discuss a theory in dealing with a crisis situation in the context of a da'wah organization in general, which of course will be different from the crisis context of a business company, both in terms of the type of issue or problem to the handling of the crisis situation. According to Coombs, there are five message strategies that are usually used in crisis communication, namely: (1) Non-existence strategies. This strategy is carried out by organizations that are not experiencing a crisis, but there are rumors that the organization is facing a crisis; (2) Distance strategies. Organizations that acknowledge a crisis are used and try to weaken the relationship between the organization and the crisis that has occurred; (3) Ingratiation strategies. This strategy is used by organizations in seeking public support; (4) Mortification strategies. The organization tries to apologize and accept the fact that there is a real crisis; (5) Suffering strategies. Organizations also show suffering as victims of those who are not happy with the organization and seek to gain public support and sympathy. The choice of crisis communication strategy must be considered by the da'wah organization that will carry out its crisis communication by still considering the situation, type of problem, and the scale or size of a crisis that occurs as well as the organization's ability to reach the choice of communication model.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to describe the experience of individuals processing information and interpret the phenomenon of discrimination in Indonesia. This study uses the interpretive paradigm and the phenomenological tradition as a basis for theoretical thinking to understand the subjective world of communicators through in-depth interview instruments. Information Integration Theory is used to explain the process of forming cognitive structures and individual attitudes when interacting with discriminatory information obtained through a number of information media. The data analysis technique used the phenomenological approach proposed by Van Kaam. The results of this study indicate that information on discrimination cases appears in the daily activities of individuals accessing and using information, thus encouraging information processing in the individual's cognitive system. However, only a number of cases have been noticed and followed by individuals, such as cases of discrimination against ethnic Madurese in Kalimantan, Ahmadiyah congregations, students from Papua in Malang and Surabaya, and the Natalius Pigai case. Discrimination messages are transmitted via Facebook, Twitter, media coverage, research journals, and word of mouth. The phenomenon of discrimination in Indonesia is understood by individuals into three different meanings.

Abstract

The Help movie becomes a site for redefining the superiority of white skin over black skin. The number of films with the central theme of oppression and discrimination against blacks makes whites feel they have to redefine their identity in the eyes of the world as people who bring enlightenment to blacks. The purpose of this paper is to identify forms of redefinition superiority in The Help movie. The theory that used in this paper is representation theory that formulated by Stuart Hall. The data obtained from observation of images (visual image) and sound/dialogue (audio) in which there is a text that describes the redefinition of the superiority of whites over blacks, and then analyzed using a constructionist approach. The results showed, The Help is an attempt to construct that not all whites discriminate against blacks, by presenting white figures who oppose discrimination and defend black rights through a book, which is then published and read by the public, but on the other hand, this film wants to convey that the black struggle not succeed without the presence of whites. Blacks will not get their freedom if whites do not take part in the struggle that they are doing. This film wants to redefine white superiority which does not always have a bad impact on black lives, because there are many positive aspects that can be generated through white superiority, such as improvement in the economic level, and raise black awareness of their potential.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the persistence of Javanese hegemony within the state’s “Indonesia-Centric” tourism narrative, as reflected in the Anugerah Desa Wisata Indonesia (ADWI) 2024 promotional videos on the official Kemenparekraf YouTube channel. Using a mixed-method approach combining quantitative content analysis and semiotic narrative interpretation, this research identifies significant spatial and representational imbalances between Javanese and Non-Javanese destinations. This research analyzes a total of 50 promotional videos (N=50). Quantitative findings reveal that Javanese destinations received 65% of total promotional airtime, with an average duration of 7.22 minutes per video, compared to only 4.57 minutes for Non-Javanese regions. Qualitative analysis further shows that Javanese villages are portrayed through narratives of modernity, accessibility, and managerial excellence framing them as normative and strategic models of success. Conversely, Non-Javanese destinations are represented through exoticized imagery emphasizing remoteness and cultural spectacle, perpetuating the “Othering” discourse. These findings demonstrate a symbolic contradiction between the Indonesia Centric development mandate and the digital execution of tourism branding, where cultural hegemony persists despite decentralization efforts. The study proposes the implementation of an Equity in Promotional Investment (EPI) framework to ensure spatial representational justice and promote genuine inclusivity in Indonesia’s tourism communication strategy.
