Abstract

In Samarinda in the Loa Janan Ilir sub-district, 8.23% (93 cases) of babies were born with low birth weight in 2021, two times from the previous year. The research is needed to understand the risk factors of LBW during pregnancy, such as anemia, chronic energy deficiency (CED) and the appropriateness of weight gain, in order to determine prevention programs. This study used a retrospective cohort method by looking at exposure during pregnancy and the baby's birth weight. The data used in this research is secondary data using a total sampling technique on the population of mothers who gave birth from January to May 2023. Analysis was carried out by looking at causal relationships and relative risk (RR) using the Chi-Square test and multivariate logistic regression. There was no relationship between anemia (p-value= 0.634) dan CED (p-value= 0.794) and appropriate weight gain (p-value= 0.189) during pregnancy and the incidence of LBW. Based on a multivariate test, it was found that pregnant women < 20 years old had a 45.16 times greater risk of having a LBW child (p=0.017). Meanwhile, mothers with inappropriate weight gain have a 7.6 times risk of having LBW children compared to those with (p-value=0.054). This is likely to occur because the majority of pregnant women have applied double doses to anemic pregnant women, but have not yet determined the adequacy of maternal’s diet based on inadiquate weight. Community health center is expected to carry out behavioral change interventions related to diet during pregnancy, apart from the importance of consuming supplements, as well as education regarding the impact of adolescent pregnancy.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is one of the most common public health emergencies, especially in low- and middle-income countries, such as Indonesia. This study aims to determine the effect of SEKAR (Sumber Edukasi Anemia yang Relevan) card-based nutrition education on knowledge and iron intake in pregnant women at the Mangkupalas Samarinda Health Center. The type of research used is an experimental study with a pre-test and post-test research design with the control group. A total of 36 pregnant women were taken into samples divided into 2 groups, namely 18 interventions and 18 controls based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.  Nutrition education variables were obtained using SEKAR cards and leaflets containing information about anemia. The knowledge was obtained using a structured questionnaire that had been validated and a pregnant woman's iron intake was obtained using a 24-hour in-depth food recall interview. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results show that the effect of nutrition education using SEKAR on the knowledge of pregnant women (p = 0.003), and iron intake (p = 0.031). Leaflet media did not affect knowledge (p = 0.072) and iron intake (p = 0.078). There was a significant difference between SEKAR cards and leaflets on knowledge improvement (p = 0.001) and there was no significant difference between the use of SEKAR card media and leaflets on iron intake (p = 0.516). Media SEKAR is superior and effective was used in this study. It is hoped that there will be continuous nutrition education

Abstract

Stunting is still a global health emergency, and this is a burden for developing countries including Indonesia. Based on the report, Indonesia is the country with the 5th largest contributor to stunting worldwide. The empowerment of cadres is considered very helpful in monitoring children's growth and development. This study aims to determine the training of cadres on knowledge and skills in monitoring the growth of toddlers in the working area of the Samarinda City Health Centre. The research is a quasi-experimental design conducted in July – August 2023 in the working area of the Samarinda City Health Center, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. A total of 66 cadres were involved as respondents by setting inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data was then collected and analyzed with the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results show that there is an effect of training using modules on cadre knowledge (p = 0.000), there is an effect of training using videos on cadre knowledge (p = 0.000), there is an effect of training using modules on cadre skills (p = 0.000), and there is an effect of training using videos on cadre skills (p = 0.000). There is a difference. These results show that module media is more effectively used in training than video. Both forms of training exert the same effect. However, module-based training is more effective than video, this is because module media builds interaction among cadres

Abstract

An increase in stunting incidents occurred in Samarinda in 2022. Several studies in the Harapan Baru area found children's inadequate food intake, low environmental sanitation, and low maternal knowledge regarding nutrition. The mother's role is vital in child feeding. Providing nutritional education to mothers of stunted children is carried out to create independence in preparing healthy and nutritious food, as well as protecting children from disease. This community service has the Harapan Baru Community Health Center as a partner. Nutrition education and the formation of a WhatsApp Group were conducted, followed by practice sessions in making complementary food using local ingredients. The results were an increase in the average knowledge of mothers, increasing mothers' skills in preparing adequate complementary food, and improvement in consumption intake after the intervention. Providing education accompanied by cooking practices can be a program intervention in the community to improve mothers' skills in making complementary food
