Abstract

In this study, synthesis of a sodium alginate-coated rice husk-based biocomposite as a substitute adsorbent to lessen the negative impacts of congo red dye was conducted. A calcium chloride (CaCl2) solution was used in the sonication and encapsulation processes to produce the biocomposite material. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy were used to characterize the biocomposite material. Adsorption experiments showed that the optimum pH was 3 and the dye concentration was varied between 10 and 50 ppm and adsorbent mass between 0.05 and 1.5 grams. Adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order linear model, while the adsorption isotherm model matched the Freundlich model. According to these results, biocomposites of rice husk and sodium alginate have a potential to be an environmental-friendly way to manage the textile waste.

Abstract

Household organic waste management remains a major challenge in Gadingsari Village, Sanden District, Bantul Regency. Due to low awareness and limited use of waste processing technologies, residents often burn or improperly dispose of organic waste. This community service program aimed to introduce maggot (Black Soldier Fly) cultivation as an innovative, environmentally friendly, and economically beneficial solution. The program was implemented using a Community Based Research (CBR) approach, consisting of four main stages: laying the foundation, planning, information gathering and analysis, and acting on findings. Participatory education and training were conducted to enhance the community’s capacity to manage organic waste as a productive resource. Evaluation results showed an increase in knowledge and skills, along with active community involvement. This initiative is expected to be integrated into the future Waste Processing Facility (TPST 3R) and serve as a replicable model for other villages. Overall, the program contributes to improving environmental quality and promoting sustainable community well-being.

Abstract

Adsorption of Rhodamine B on Citrus sinesis peel biosorbent has been conducted. The adsorption process was carried out in neutral pH for 90 min. The active surface of the Citrus sinesis peel biosorbent was 15 m2/g and the density was 0.52 g/cm3. The adsorption mechanism of Rhodamine B on Citrus sinesis peel biosorbent was studied using 4 adsorption model; Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich. The adsorption fitted the Freundlich model with the regression value of 0.906. This indicates that the adsorption of Rhodamine B on the surface of Citrus sinesis peel biosorbent was a multilayer interaction.

Abstract

The synthesis of biocomposite (HA:TCP) – Gelatine – CMC for bone filler material has been carried out. In this research, the ratio of HA and TCP was varied as follows: 70:30, 50:50 and 40:60. The decrease of HA and the increase of TCP concentration will decrease the density, increase the percentage of porosity and swelling. The best composition for the synthesis was obtained for sample B with the ratio of HA:TCP = 50:50. For sample B, the synthesized biocomposite has the density of 1.67790 gr/cm3, porosity of 78.64%, tension of 10.14 MPa, swelling ability  46.85% and the sample mass degradation percentage of 8.1 %. The composition used for the biocomposite synthesis in this research was suitable to be applied as bone filler material which needs a dense pores and high tension.

Abstract
