Abstract

Aluminium has a good nature; corrosion-resistant, lightweight, and able to be recycled. But the connection with welding aluminum is difficult to do so we need the right way this study aims to determine the characteristics of the results of weld aluminum with large variations in preheat temperature and current. Aluminum Alloy AA 3003 TIG welded with Filler ER 5356, a variation current 110 A, 130 A, 140 A and preheat temperature of 75 degree celcius, 125 degree celcius, 175 degree celcius, then welds tested tensile, hardness, and microstructure. The results showed that the variation o f the current 110 A with a preheat temperature of 175 degree C has the highest tensile strength and hardness.

Abstract

AISI 316L stainless steel is one of the metals that are widely used to meet medical needs. In its use of these materials must meet several requirements such is violence, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and tenacious. To meet these requirements, the modification techniques continue to be developed, such techniques include electropolishing techniques and cold deformation. This research will be carried out merging technique electropolishing and cold deformation which might be expected to obtain the quality 316L stainless steel is better. Research carried out by deform the specimen with a thick reduction of 40% and then do electropolishing process, then performed the test roughness and hardness on the surface of the specimen. Cold deformation 40% increase surface hardness up 105%  from the initial violence. Electropolishing can reduce the surface roughness of up to 14 times.

Abstract

This research carried out the sandblasting process on used aluminum propeller castings with variations in sand grains: 40 mesh, 60 mesh, and 80 mesh with variations of 30 seconds, 60 seconds and 90 seconds. The size of the grain and the varying time result in different surface hardness. The biggest hardness on sandblasting with a grain size of 40 mesh time of 90 seconds is 39.8 VHN, 60 mesh time of 30 seconds is 38.6 VHN, 80 mesh time of 30 seconds is 37.1 VHN, from the photo macro the abrasion of the largest surface material occurs at grain size 40 mesh.

Abstract

This study aimed to establish the type of Savonius wind turbines that capable of generating electric power of 200 Watts. This objective relates to Bantul District Government program which plans to build wind turbin generating electrical power (Pembangkit  Listrik Tenaga Bayu, PLTB) 200 Watt as a backup power source for powering cooling fish caught by fishermen in the southern coast. Savonius Turbine chosen with consideration that it has simple construction so that the cost is not expensive, not depending on the direction of the wind, and is suitable for small power plants.Design of Savonius turbine blade has been completed, the turbine blade height 168 cm and a diameter of 55 cm. Blade turbine mounted on an arm along 55 cm from the turbine shaft and separate 120º. The turbine is supported by a 3-foot-tall turbines framework 2,5 m iron box 4 cm x 4 cm. The test simulated to determine the turbine rotation has been performed at varying wind speeds, i.e. 2 m /s, 4 m /s and 6 m /s.Based on test results, the turbine is capable of rotating an average of 54,2 rpm at a wind speed of 2 m /s; 86,8 rpm at a wind speed of 4 m /s; and 124,2 rpm at a wind speed of 6 m /s. These test results indicate that the Savonius turbines can be used to drive a generator producing the need of electrical energy

Abstract

Abstract

Stone Park is one of the tourist destinations located in Turunan, Girisuko, Panggang, Gunungkidul. The Stone Park tourist destination is currently not widely visited by tourists because it only offers sunrise spot facilities, photo spots, gazebos, and camping areas that have been widely offered by other tourist destinations. To support Sustainable Tourism which can have a long-term impact on the environment, social, culture, and economy, it is necessary to develop attraction spots. The aerosport attraction spot is one of the attraction spots that is quite popular with the public. To provide understanding and skills, training has been held on making and flying the Out Hand Launch Glider (OHLG) Aircraft which was attended by 21 participants consisting of Stone Park tourist destination managers and the surrounding community. The participants were able to understand the need for the development of aerospace attraction spots and succeeded in making and flying the OHLG aircraft.

Abstract

Komposit sandwich adalah jenis komposit yang mempunyai kekuatan tinggi apabila digunakan sebagai struktur primer maupun sekunder. Komposit juga memiliki kelebihan dari sifat mekaniknya, tahan korosi, massa jenis yang kecil dan proses pembuatannya yang sederhana. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki pengaruh variasi fraksi volume lapisan kulit serat aren dengan inti limbah gergaji kayu sengon laut terhadap kekuatan bending komposit sandwich bermatriks polyester. Bahan penelitian ini adalah serat aren, unsaturated polyester resin 157 BQTN-EX, serbuk limbah gergaji kayu sengon laut dan urea formaldehide. Spesimen ini dibuat dengan metode cetak tekan dengan tebal skin (2 mm) dan tebal core (10 mm). Pengujian bending komposit sandwich ini mengacu pada standar ASTM D-790-03. Metode yang digunakan dalam proses pembuatan komposit ini adalah metode hand lay up.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai kekuatan bending mengalami kenaikan dari variasi fraksi volume 20% : 80% ke variasi fraksi volume 40% : 60%, dengan nilai tegangan lentur maksimum tertinggi 54,87 N/mm2 pada variasi fraksi volume 40% : 60%. Berdasarkan hal ini dapat diketahui bahwa seiring penambahan serat maka turut mempengaruhi nilai tegangan yang dihasilkan. Hasil pengujian morfologi pada variasi 30% : 70% ditemukan adanya void atau pori-pori di sekitar permukaan spesimen.

Abstract

Population growth and technology development are increasing rapidly. These cause the use of energy on the earth is increasing. One effort to obtain energy sources is to utilize solar energy using solar water heater. This research was expected to help the society to save energy derived from fossils. A testing was conducted by designing solar water heater with collector size of 60 cm x 50 cm using black painted aluminum-coated styrofoam insulator and the storage tank made of stainless steel with volume of 40 liter using black painted aluminum-coated styrofoam. In conducting the testing, the data were taken at 09.00 a.m until 04.00 p.m for 5 days. The research was conducted at ITD Adisutjipto. The analysis and discussion showed the solar water heater design and the storage tank used to perform performance the test (efficiency). Within 5 days testing the average of water temperature out (Tout) was 59.75 oC to 76.59 oC with the average rate efficiency of 54.07 % to 54.9 % and the average storage drop rate of 2.97 K / Hr or 17.84 K for 6 hours

Abstract

Friction stir welding (FSW) adalah suatu teknologi pengelasan yang merupakan proses solid-state joining yang bisa digunakan untuk menyambungkan material aluminium dengan mampu las yang rendah. Proses FSW memanfaatkan putaran dari tool yang menggesek dua buah lempengan logam yang akan disambung. Aluminium 2024 T3 dengan ketebalan 4 mm disambung menggunakan proses FSW dengan variasi feedrate yang digunakan 13 mm/menit, 15 mm/menit, dan 25 mm/menit, kecepatan putaran spindle 910 rpm dan kedalaman pin 3 mm. Pengujian yang dilakukan adalah pengujian tarik, kekerasan dan uji struktur mikro pada masing-masing variasi pengelasan.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan tarik dan regangan tarik tertinggi terjadi pada pengelasan dengan feedrate 25 mm/menit sebesar 221,51 MPa dan 3,60. Kemudian kekuatan tarik dan regangan tarik terendah terjadi pada pengelasan dengan feedrate 13 mm/menit sebesar 198,63 MPa dan 2,26. Nilai kekerasan tertinggi di area nugget zone dihasilkan pada pengelasan dengan feedrate 25 mm/menit yaitu sebesar 137 VHN dan nilai kekerasan terendah dihasilkan pada pengelasan dengan feedrate 13 mm/menit yaitu sebesar 105 VHN. Hasil foto struktur mikro pada area nugget zone dan TMAZ (Thermomecanically Affected Zone) mengalami perubahan seiring dengan berubahnya feedrate.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the position of shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) with spiral motion V on the tensile strength and microstructure of low carbon steel. The research was conducted by welding V-coated low carbon steel with horizontal 2G, vertical 3G and overhead 4G. The test results show that the welding position does not have a significant effect on the tensile strength of low carbon steel welds, where the 3G vertical position provides a higher tensile strength value than the 2G horizontal position and 4G overhead. The microstructure of acicular ferrite (AF) in the vertical position looks dominant uniformly and tightly.
