Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out whether group discussion of oral games improved students' speaking skills. This research was conducted at SMAN 2 Pangkep. The population in this study were students of SMAN 2 Pangkep with samples selected using a simple random sampling technique. The instrument used in this study was a speaking test which was given as a pre-test and post-test. Based on the results of the average score, the researchers found that the use of the technique of describing pictures in stimulating students to speak English using group discussions of oral games could stimulate students to actively speak. This is evidenced by the post-test results which are higher than the pre-test results (25.83 > 53.89). Then, the researcher concluded that describing pictures can stimulate students to speak English by using group discussions of oral games.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the strategies used by teachers in restricting English vocabulary. In this study used a qualitative approach. The population used in this study were English teachers at Madania Makassar schools. Selection of the population is done by purposive sampling. Researchers conducted observations and interviews for data collection. From the results of data analysis and processing, it is known that the strategies used by English teachers at Madania Makassar schools to teach vocabulary are, Repeating the Words, Coloring the Picture, Grouping Words, Finding the Picture, Connecting Words and Pictures, and Name the Object Shown in the Picture. During the learning process, the teacher can manage the class well so that students are actively involved in learning. The books used during the learning process are books designed by the teacher, but still guided by the government's curriculum.. Keywords— Vocabulary, Teaching Strategies, Picture.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the effects of translation apps on English vocabulary mastery of high school students. The method of this study was a Pre-Experimental design that consisted of one experimental class. The samples in this study were XII MIA SETIA students from SMAN 25 BONE. Samples were selected using a cluster random sampling technique with a total number of 17 students. The instrument for collecting data was Pre-test and Post-test. Based on calculations, the mean scores of post-test in the experimental class was 87.5. The results of the statistical hypothesis test using the paired sample t-test revealed the probability/significance level is less than the alpha level. Thus, the use of google translate has a positive effect on high school students English vocabulary mastery. Keywords— Vocabulary, Google Translate Application.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out what are the psychological barriers faced by students of SMP Negeri 8 Palopo when listening to English lessons in the online learning process. Qualitative design with analytical description was the method used by the researcher. The population was the third-grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Palopo in academic year 2022/2023. This research used simple random sampling technique. In this case, the researcher chose two classes to distribute the questionnaire and eight people were selected from the questionnaire results to be interviewed. Instrument of this research were a questionnaire and an interview. The results of data analysis shows that students' psychological barriers when listening to English lessons in the online learning process are; students' perspective on English lessons, students feel anxious, less-interest in English, lack of concentration and lack of vocabulary and conversation skills. The research results that trigger the presence of psychological barriers to learning are learning methods and local support.Keywords— Psychological Barriers, Students, Listening to English Lessons
