Makassar is considered one of the prone conflict areas which can destroy campus academic life as scientific institution where students are expected to be able to become more educative, more human, more democratic and more harmonious people around the society.  This study aims at exploring  the causes of the conflict happened at the university students in South Sulawesi, the efforts done by the tertiary institution in overcoming students conflict, the potential of applying multicultural  education, and finding out the model of students resolution conflict based on multicultural education approach. This research applied qualitative approach by using likert-scale questionnaire, in-depth interview and Focus Group Discussion (FGD), observation,  documentation and videoing to get data.   The obtained data are analyzed qualitatively and percentage based on the likert scale; data display, data reduction, data interpretation, and data conclusion. The result of the study demonstrated that most of the students’ conflicts are dealing with inequality, lack of intercultural understanding, and a very limited space for ethnic and individual expressions as part of academic society. This leads to potentially open a space for applying multicultural education as an alternative model for mental revolution in teaching Intercultural Communication to university students.

Abstract

This systematic literature review (SRL) examines the impact of English educational tourism (EET) on the growth of local Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Through a comprehensive search of academic databases and systematic assessment of study quality, a total of 49 studies were selected for inclusion. The studies varied in design, location, and intervention, but all focused on the relationship between English educational tourism and the growth of local SMEs. This SLR focuses on the typology of SMEs in EET, its impact on rural economy and local community empowerment, and SMEs’ challenges in growing their businesses. The findings suggest that English educational tourism can have a positive impact on local SMEs and rural communities, including increased revenue, community empowerment, cultural preservation, and poverty reduction. However, it is crucial to ensure that the benefits of EET are distributed fairly and that local communities are actively involved in the decision-making process to maximize positive impacts and mitigate potential negative impacts. Overall, the results suggest that English educational tourism can be a promising strategy for promoting the growth of local economy, but more research is needed to fully understand the conditions under which this impact is most effective.

Abstract

This study investigates lecturers' perceptions of metacognitive scaffolding in writing instruction at Universitas Halu Oleo. Utilizing a qualitative exploratory case study design, data were collected through interviews with three lecturers from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Thematic analysis revealed that while lecturers acknowledge the benefits of metacognitive scaffolding for developing independent writers, they encounter obstacles such as large class sizes, time constraints, and varied student engagement. The study aimed to provide insights for improving writing instruction practices and policy development. Lecturers discovered that metacognitive scaffolding is essential for helping students develop writing performances and engagement. The study’s findings align with literature emphasizing the importance of metacognitive strategies and structured feedback in writing instruction. The integration of technology and the positive impact of lecturers' personalities further support the effectiveness of metacognitive scaffolding in enhancing students' writing performance and engagement. Lecturers perceive the implementation of metacognitive scaffolding in writing courses as crucial for improving students' writing performance and fostering independent, reflective learning, although they acknowledge challenges such as students' difficulties with coherence and vocabulary and the distractions of technology.
