Abstract

Antiretroviral treatment side-effects and patient compliance with medical instructions continue to be a growing challenge for HIV/AIDS patients. Arv therapy has resulted in a substantial intervention that has been successful in preventing transmission and opportunistic infection. The main objective of this study was to analyze the association between side-effects of ARV therapy and medication adherence as well as another potential confounding such as opportunistic infection, family support, stress level, knowledge of ARV, marital status, and occupation. This study is a quantitative approach by using cross-sectional methods. A total of 244 respondents from 1.180 patients with confirmed HIV registered in the Care Support and Treatment (CST) service and Sriwijaya Community in the City of Palembang to respond to the survey. Non-random sampling was used to collect the samples. As the result, the majority of the respondents were male (84,43 %), ≥30 years old (57,4%), and secondary school graduates (52%). After adjusting with stress and opportunistic infection variable, a Multivariate regression analysis revealed a positive relationship between side effects and medication adherence (p-value of 0,041; 0,05), OR Adj 2,131 (1,190-4,988). PLHV who had adverse effects had a 2.131 times worse adherence rate than those who did not. In conclusion, medication adherence must be greatly improved in light of therapeutic side effects, stress levels, and opportunistic infection.

Abstract

Globally, nearly 2.6 million children under 15 years of age have been infected with HIV with 40-64% experiencing malnutrition. Children born to HIV-positive mothers with CD4 alpha (0.05). In this study, the average nutritional status of ADHA who did not have comorbidities was higher than that of ADHA who had comorbidities. The average difference in nutritional status was statistically significant with a p-value of 0.018

Abstract

Smoking leads to disease and disability as well as harm nearly every organ of the body. Furthermore, smoking of tobacco is known to cause pulmonary dysfunction and lead to complications, pain, or even death. This study aimed to measure the risk factors for the respiration of carbon monoxide among smokers. A cross-sectional design was implemented by involving 156 smokers in Karyajaya Subdistrict, Palembang City. The dependent variable was carbon monoxide levels (ppm), while the independent variables were smoking frequency, duration, and the last period of smoking. The carbon monoxide levels (ppm) measured with a PiCO + Smokerlyzer® device from Bedfont Scientific Limited were the research tool and the independent variables of the questionnaire. The Pearson Correlation and multiple linear regression were used for the analysis. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis revealed that smoking duration assessment is related to carbon monoxide respiration after controlling smoking frequency, the last period of smoking, and the distance of residence to sources of exposure. The smoker's respiration of carbon monoxide level was 72.5% influenced by the duration, frequency, last period of smoking, and distance of residence to sources of exposure. Reducing the frequency of smoking and stopping may prevent and control carbon monoxide respiration.

The study population was narcotic-addicted patients hospitalized at Cibubur Hospital for Drug Addicts within 2013. Sample of this study was all hospitalized patients amounted to 74 respondents. Data analysis used was univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. Results proved that most respondents had committed risky sexual behaviors worth 82.4% in which the age of first intercourse ≤ 17 years old worth 78.4%. The age of first intercourse ≤ 17 years old was the most influential variable to risky sexual behavior among narcotic addicts. The final model of multivariate analysis showed that narcotic users who committed sexual intercourse ≤ 17 years had 6.74 times opportunity (CI = 1.84 – 24.73) to commit risky sexual behavior than > 17 yearold narcotic users.
