Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the main objectives of learning Mathematics. HOTS questions are needed so that students are familiar with international standard questions. This study aims to describe the mathematical critical thinking skills of students in the Regular, Accelerated, and Olympic class. Qualitative descriptive research approach with case study design. The subjects of this study were three students who came from different class programs. The research instruments used were tests and interviews. Data analysis used the following procedures: reduction data, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the Regular class students had 'low' critical thinking skills. Regular students are still confused about understanding the main idea of the problem, so the strategies used are not appropriate. Acceleration class students have 'good' critical thinking skills. Accelerated students can answer questions briefly and concisely, less thorough in drawing final conclusions. Olympiad class students have 'very good' critical thinking skills. Student answers are complete and clear. Olympiad class students understand the main purpose and objectives of the questions so that they lead to correct procedures and calculations.

Abstract

Students' understanding of concepts in mathematics learning is still having difficulties. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a realistic mathematics approach on students' understanding of the SPLDV concept. This research is experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design. The place where this research was carried out was SMP Bahrul Maghfiroh Malang. The data collection technique used in this study was a written test. The data analysis technique used is quantitative analysis, namely using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results obtained from the calculation of the hypothesis test Z count> Z table, namely (16,733> 1,645), it can be concluded that H_0 is rejected and H_a is accepted, so that there is a better effect of learning with a realistic mathematics approach in improving students' understanding of the SPLDV concept. Students look more relaxed in participating in learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the problem-solving ability of field independent (FI) and field dependent (FD) students in solving HOTS story problems. This type of research is qualitative research. The research strategy used is a descriptive model. This research was carried out at a junior school in Malang, Indonesia. The respondent was tenth-grade students. Data collection methods in this study include tests and interviews. Data analysis techniques include data collection, reduction, presentation, and concluding. The results of this study show that FI and FD students understand the problem. There is no difference between the two; FI and FD students are good at understanding the problem. FI students plan solutions well and can correctly create mathematical models, while FD students have difficulty developing mathematical models. In getting answers, FI and FD students have something in common: they are not quite right in the final solution.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out and describe the process of student representation in solving TIMSS cognitive domain questions in terms of gender. This study used descriptive qualitative method. This research was conducted at the Karangploso Islamic Middle School in Malang in class VIII in the odd semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. Data collection techniques in this study used tests and interviews. The data analysis technique used consisted of three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The results of this study indicate that students with male and female gender in carrying out the process of representing questions in the cognitive aware domain do not experience problems, even though there are slight problems with male students in solving questions, students can still improve them. The process of representing material in the cognitive domain by female students is better than that of male students. Male students experience confusion in determining the initial steps when working on questions. While the process of representing questions in the cognitive reasoning domain, female students are also better than male students, female students are able to answer questions in the form of inequalities models well, while male students make mistakes in making inequalities models.

Abstract

Student learning outcomes are still not optimal because the methods and approaches used are less varied. The aim of this research is to improve mathematics learning outcomes using the PAKEM approach. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which is carried out through cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation and reflection. Data collection instruments used in this study were tests and observations. The results of this study showed that the pre-cycle was 33.33% with complete student learning outcomes of 20%. Then in the first cycle the class average value was 56% with a complete learning achievement value of 40%. Then it was continued in cycle II which experienced an increase in class average of 85.33% with a completeness score of 93.3% (reaching a score of 60 and above as many as 14 students) in other words students were thorough in learning mathematics using the PAKEM approach method

Abstract

Abstract

Papua students are still less motivated to take mathematics lessons. Students feel that mathematics is difficult and boring, so they are less interested during the mathematics learning process. The aim of this research is to increase the learning motivation of native Papuan students towards mathematics subjects using Geogebra software. The method in this research is classroom action research. This research will be carried out at SMA N 1 Warmare. The subjects used in this research were native Papuan students in class X at SMA N 1 Warmare. Data collection methods in this research include observation, questionnaire and documentation methods. The data analysis technique in this research uses descriptive analysis, namely qualitative data from observations and quantitative data from the results of the mathematics learning motivation questionnaire. In the pre-cycle, students' motivation towards mathematics was still weak on average, then in cycle 1 students' motivation to learn mathematics increased with an average of strong category, but there were still some students who had sufficient and weak motivation towards mathematics, this was shown with still the lowest score of students in the weak category. In cycle 2 there was a fairly high increase in student learning motivation, with the majority of students having a very high category, this was proven by the fact that there were no students who had weak motivation to learn mathematics. Students have also been active in participating in the learning process. Learning using Geogebra software can increase the motivation of native Papuan students in learning mathematics
