Abstract

Kebar grass (Biophytum petersianum) is being used traditionally by the people of West Papua to increase fertility. The effects of extracts and fractions of Kebar grass on the estrus cycle duration and estrus phase in rats were evaluated. The present work was designed to investigate the effects of administration of kebar grass extract and its fraction on the histopathological changes in the ovaries and uterine of rats. The female rats were treated with carboxy methyl cellulose sodium (CMC sodium) 1 % (group I), ethynile estradiol (group II), extract kebar grass (group III),  n-hexane fraction (group IV), ethyl acetate fraction (group V), and water fraction (group VI) of kebar grass via gavage daily for 7 days. At days 7th and 14th, 3 rats in each group were euthanized.  Uterine and ovarian collected and weighed. Hematoxylin-Eosin staining and the paraffin technique were used for histological preparation. Data were analyzed by One Way ANOVA followed by the Duncan test. The Kebar grass has an effect to increase ovarian and uterine weight, increasing most of the number of follicles especially primary follicle and uterine thickness. The treatment with ethyl acetate fraction of kebar grass (group V) constantly showed more effective results than the other kebar grass treatment.

Abstract

Prevalensi kejadian diare dan karies gigi di Indonesia masih cukup tinggi terutama pada anak-anak usia pra sekolah. Diare bisa berujung kepada dehidrasi dengan konsekuensi yang fatal dan berpotensi merenggut nyawa penderita jika terjadi pada anak-anak. Karies pada anak akan menimbulkan rasa sakit yang berdampak pada keengganan anak untuk mengunyah makanan sehingga terjadi malnutrisi dan malposisi gigi tetap. Untuk mencegah kejadian diare dan karies gigi pada anak usia pra sekolah, perlu dilakukan edukasi dengan metode yang tepat, efektif dan mudah  diingat oleh anak usia pra sekolah. Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan edukasi  “Edukasi Kebersihan Tangan dan Sikat Gigi Untuk Mencegah Diare dan Karies Pada Anak Usia Pra-Sekolah”  adalah ceramah dipadukan dengan pemutaran video demonstrasi dengan musik dan lagu, serta demostrasi langsung menggunakan bantuan alat peraga. Edukasi disampaikan disesuaikan dengan bahasa dan sikap yang sesuai psikologi anak usia pra sekolah sehingga menarik, tidak membosankan, mudah diingat, dan dapat dipraktekan secara rutin setelah kegiatan berakhir. Dari kegiatan ini didapatkan data terdapat cukup tinggi angka  kekeliruan dalam teknik menggosok gigi dan mencuci tangan sebesar masing-masing 42% dan 73%. Setelah kegiatan edukasi selesai, tingkat kekeliruan teknik menggosok gigi dan mencuci tangan berkurang manjadi masing-masing 96% dan 36%. Data hasil kegiatan juga menginformasikan bahwa 83% responden mendapatkan pengetahun  baru dan 92% responden menginginkan pengulangan kegiatan edukasi secara berkala. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan edukasi dapat mengurangi kekeliruan cara menggosok gigi dan mencuci tangan sehingga diharapkan dapat menurunkan angka karies gigi dan kejadian diare pada anak usia pra sekolah.

Abstract

Kebar grass (Biophytum petersianum Klotzsch) contains steroid, saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and triterpenoids. The use of Kebar grass extract can increase the development of follicles because it contains saponins which are the basic ingredients for the synthesis of steroid hormones and can improve the performance of reproductive system. This study aims to determine the quality the tablets made from Kebar grass extract with varying concentrations of PVP K-30 binder. Tablets were made in 3 formulas with varying concentrations of PVP K-30 as a binder, namely 2% (F1), 3% (F2), and 4% (F3). Methods of making tablets by wet granulation. Tablet quality testing includes organoleptic, weight uniformity, thickness, diameter, hardness, friability, and disintegration time. The flavonoid quercetin was used as a marker for tablet analysis. The results showed that the tablets were round in shape, white-gray in color, had a slightly bitter taste and had a characteristic aromatic odor. The average value of tablet weight uniformity is 290.06 – 306.45 mg (KV <5%), tablet diameter is 0.91 -0.92 cm, thickness is 0.41 – 0.48 cm, hardness is 4.06 – 7.95 kp, friability 0.17 – 0.21% and tablet disintegration time < 15 minutes. The results of the statistical analysis showed that the differences in the concentration of PVP K-30 did not affect the hardness and friability of the tablets (p> 0.05). The level of the flavonoid quercetin in the tablet is 0.17 – 0.21%. The conclusion that Kebar grass extract tablets can be made using PVP K-30 at a concentration of 2-4% as a binder and the quality of the tablets is not significantly different.
