Abstract

The advancement of information and communication technology has had a major impact on the world as it increases the fulfillment of people's needs and comfort. This can be seen in urban development with the formation of the concept of a smart city, a city that integrates technological advances with people's lives to make effective decisions so as to improve the welfare of its people. This paper discussed the implementation of the smart city concept in Bekasi City, Indonesia. Along with its development, there are several applications of smart city elements in Bekasi City that are still far from expectations regarding the service quality and coverage. This study aims to see how smart city pillars are implemented in Bekasi City. Nonparticipant observation is used to conduct the study. The result shows that the range of smart city applications in Bekasi City is quite narrow and some service quality is still poor. Only 10 out of 21 criteria have been fulfilled in the city. This research needs further study on the implementation of smart cities in other Indonesian cities to see the effectiveness of its application and other solutions that can be offered.

Abstract

SUSTAINABLE URBAN SLUMS MANAGEMENTABSTRACTIndonesia’s population tends to increase with a relatively high population growth, with year-over-year growth reaching ± 1,45%. Globally, Indonesia occupies the sixth position just after Laos (2,3% per year), Phillipines (2,0% per year), Brunei Darussalam (1,9% per year), Malaysia (1,8% per year), and Cambodia (1,8% per year). If it is not followed by government policies, it has the potential to evoke negative impact, namely the increasing number of slum settlements. That is why a study is needed to manage settlements based on spatial use. In addition, building planning that is able to provide comfort and health for its users is needed. The purpose of the study is to formulate settlement management based on spatial use and building design that accomodates environmental aspects. The approach used in the study is based on the principles of sustainable developments and study documents by Direktorat Cipta Karya. Some of the principles proposed are accomodating about land use, population mobility, utilization of renewable energy, urban economics improvement, social development, and accessibility.

Abstract

This study investigates the acoustic comfort of shopping malls related to the standards and people's emotions. The soundscape is vital in shopping malls to attract more visitors. This research studied the soundscapes of two shopping malls in Yogyakarta, focusing on the effect of noise on the environmental perceptions of hedonic and utilitarian consumers. The research took on-site noise measurements to create soundscapes maps. There were also interviews to explore their opinions about the noise inside malls. Data were statistically analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Science. The results showed that only some soundscape elements affected arousal emotions among hedonic consumers, concerning a more extensive period of mall visits. No soundscape element affected pleasure emotions among utilitarian consumers with the length of stay in malls. Socio-cultural backgrounds of shopping culture (in traditional and modern markets) and soundscape conditions were also considered. The excessive soundscapes did not directly impact the health negatively of those who spent long periods in malls. The subsequent studies may continue to find the relation between acoustic comfort and the difference with the regulation.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: Being located in the centre of cultural heritage area of Kotabaru, city of  Yogyakarta,  the Saint Anthony Catholic Church then is known as Kotabaru Church (Dutch: Nieuw Wijk Katholieke Kerk). The church is located in Abu Bakar Ali street (Boulevard Jonquiere) and I Dewa Nyoman Oka street (Sultansboulevard). As one of the eldest churches in the city, the church was built during the colonial time and inaugurated in 1926 by Mgr. A. Van Velsen SJ, the Bishop of Jakarta. In 2014 The Saint Anthony Church was stated as a cultural heritage building. In October 2016 the Church bought a piece of land with a building on it, adjacent to its parish house. The two story building was half constructed, developed from a single story Indische architectural style building which unfortunately was already destroyed, leaving only a small part of its original building entrance. The building was planned to be functioned as the new parish house with a spatial connection to the old parish house. Despite the strong recommendation to reduce the expenses by making minimum physical changes, the building especially the façade should be redesigned as far as possible to be restored to its original façade and according to the requirements as an Indische architectural style building. As a part of the cultural heritage buildings in the area of Kotabaru, the new parish house should perform contextual architectural style and elements. Furthermore, the design results are proposed three alternatives and presented in the form of floorplans and elevations. A. Van Velsen SJ, Uskup Jakarta.

Abstract

This research examines the accuracy of computer programmes to simulate the illuminance level in atrium buildings compare to the measurement of those in physical models. The case was taken in atrium building with 4 types of roof i.e. pitched roof, barrel vault roof, monitor pitched roof (both monitor pitched roof and monitor barrel vault roof), and north light roof (both with north orientation and south orientation). The results show that both methods have agreement and disagreement. They show the same pattern of daylight distribution. In the other side, in terms of daylight factors, computer simulation tends to underestimate calculation compared to physical model measurement, while for average and minimum illumination, it tends to overestimate the calculation.
