Abstract

Stunting is a worldwide issue that affects children, in which Indonesia has a high stunting rate of 36.4 percent of children stunted. Stunting has a significant negative impact on children's growth and development including nutritional status. To avoid this, it is vital to discover the problem as soon as feasible. The Card to Health (Kartu Menuju Sehat/KMS) and the Denver II instrument can be used for early detection, as well as child growth and development examinations. However, kindergarten teachers, who are on the front lines of education, do not yet have access to KMS and Denver II. The purpose of this activity is to increase teachers' abilities to diagnose stunting in children at a young age using KMS and Denver II. During the months of August to November 2019, the Pelangi Islamic Kindergarten in Depok carried out community service activities. Thirteen teachers and 18 pupils took part in the activity. As a result, 100 percent of teachers improved their ability to use KMS, and up to three children were classified as fat, one had autism, and one had reservations about Denver II. At the Pelangi Islamic Kindergarten, no students are considered stunted. Stunting and nutritional status can be detected by community service activities, and teachers' capacity to detect stunting and nutritional status using KMS and Denver II can be improved significantly.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional issue in children that remains a primary focus for the government to prevent and reduce its prevalence. Various efforts have been made in collaboration with various parties to improve the nutritional status of children aged 0-2 years, pregnant women, and before pregnancy (adolescent girls). The proper food composition for teenagers should adhere to the 'Fill my plate' principle with a composition of 1/3 staple food, 1/3 vegetables, 1/6 fruit, and the remaining 1/6 containing animal and vegetable protein. Good knowledge about balanced nutrition consumption in adolescent girls is essential to support the prevention of stunting in children in the future.Purpose: To identify the relationship between knowledge about stunting prevention and the consumption of balanced nutritious food in adolescent girls.Method: This research is an observational analytical quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study consisted of 95 female first-semester students at the Faculty of Nursing, Muhammadiyah University, Jakarta. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with criteria being young female respondents aged 16-20 without chronic illnesses. The number of samples was 86. Data analysis used the chi-square statistical test to determine the relationship between knowledge about stunting prevention and the consumption of balanced nutritious food in young women. Results: The average age of respondents was 18 years, the average score for knowledge about stunting prevention was 26.6, the majority of teenagers had a very good knowledge category, with 65 people (75.5%), and the majority of teenagers consumed balanced nutrition, 48 people (55.8%). The results of the statistical test obtained a p-value of 0.26 (>0.05), which means there is no relationship between teenagers' knowledge about stunting and the consumption of balanced nutrition. Conclusion: It is hoped that healthcare professionals, especially nurses, can be involved and provide education and other interventions in preventing stunting by supporting young women to consume balanced nutrition.

Abstract

Background: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in children may be accompanied by severe complications, including hyperleukocytosis, Tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS), and Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), which increase the risk of impaired tissue perfusion, multiorgan dysfunction, and mortality. This combination of complications is rarely reported and requires intensive nursing monitoring to facilitate early detection of clinical deterioration. Purpose: This case report aims to describe the clinical course and nursing management using a Fluid Perfusion Monitoring Bundle and to formulate monitoring recommendations for similar pediatric onco-hematologic emergencies. Case Study: A 15-year-old boy was referred with hyperleukocytosis and suspected acute leukemia following progressive weakness, fever, decreased appetite, and weight loss. Laboratory findings revealed a leukocyte count of 118,000/µL, hemoglobin of 5.2 g/dL, platelet count of 87,000/µL, and 74% peripheral blasts, accompanied by hyperuricemia, electrolyte disturbances, and elevated urea and creatinine levels of 194 mg/dL and 4.84 mg/dL, respectively. Immunophenotyping confirmed AML. The patient was diagnosed with AML complicated by hyperleukocytosis, spontaneous TLS, stage 3 AKI, and suspected leukostasis, requiring intensive care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Discussion: Impaired peripheral tissue perfusion was identified as the priority nursing problem due to hyperleukocytosis and leukostasis, further aggravated by severe anemia, TLS, and stage 3 AKI. The Fluid Perfusion Monitoring Bundle, comprising systematic monitoring of hemodynamic status, peripheral perfusion, oxygenation, fluid balance, urine output, renal function, and electrolytes, facilitated early detection of clinical deterioration and supported timely nursing and collaborative interventions. Conclusion: The Fluid Perfusion Monitoring Bundle supports structured monitoring and early detection of changes in tissue perfusion, fluid balance, and renal function in children with AML, TLS, and stage 3 AKI, thereby contributing to optimized nursing care and the prevention of clinical deterioration.
