Abstract

This research is to reveal the politeness strategies and intonation used by Desi and Dalai Lama. It is a qualitative research from the recorded interview of the TV program then transcribed into a text. The data triangulation and peer review are used. First, wants to invite Dalai Lama to search for an interpretation of the possible relevance through her hints. She delivers the information in a focus and it is based on context in the issues of a religious harmony. The utterances are supported by not only a manner expression such as raised eyebrow, puckered brow and shoulder bent forward, but also the intonation in a falling-rising tone. Second, Dalai Lama wants to be optimistic and centers his wants of creating a religious harmony to be unimpeded. The utterances are supported by not only a manner expression such as having a deep breathy voice and shaking his body, showing his finger up and down, but also the intonation in a falling tone. The findings imply that to achieve a mutual understanding in communication, someone should avoid the great mismatch in communication in addition to meet the purposes of communication, have a sense of awareness, and etiquette in the arena of language usage.

Abstract

When the goals in teaching pronunciation are that students attain “near-native” and “socially acceptable” pronunciation, and are assessed with a valid and reliable instrument using the Praat device and human interpretation raters, a new way to assess pronunciation skills is needed. This article proposes such a new way. Through suprasegmental identity (rhythm), English teachers’ pronunciation skill (E-TPS) will be correctly assessed. Using Praat as a device and human raters for interpretation to assess E-TPS stands on several premises. First, the measures of pronunciation constructs should be valid and reliable. Second, the role of raters in English pronunciation assessment presents unique challenges in drawing valid inferences from performance, in scoring assignments, in making decisions for which a pronunciation assessment was intended, to the pedagogical and social consequences beyond, and to connect concerns in giving judgments. Third, the raters should have familiarity with both accent and content. Fourth, a suprasegmental (stress, rhythm, and intonation) approach is an important complement to segmental teaching. Fifth, rhythm plays a big role and is defined as a “continuum” of functions and effects in pronunciation assessment. Sixth, the trend among the technology-minded for testing using automated assessment of pronunciation has as its goal accuracy in imitating native speakers, as is reflected in the use of Praat as a device. Therefore, the blending approach (Praat and raters) represents the future in assessing E-TPS.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk : 1) Mengetahui pelaksanaan supervisi klinis di TK Muslimat NU 8 Gresik. 2) Mengetahui pengaruh pelaksanaan supervisi klinis terhadap peningkatan mutu belajar seraya bermain di TK Muslimat NU 8 Gresik. Penelitian ini berjenis kualitatif dengan metode wawancara, observasi, kuesioner, dan dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah kepala sekolah sebagai supervisor, 10 guru sebagai Supervised yang terdiri dari 5 guru kelompok A dan 5 guru kelompok B. Pengecekan keabsahan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan triangulasi teori dan menggunakan analisis data jenis Milles dan Huberman, Serta menggunakan teori Sagala dan Mulyasa. Dari hasil penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan 1) Pelaksanaan supervisi klinis di TK Muslimat NU 8 Gresik ada 4 tahapan : a) Pra siklus. Guru terlebih dahulu membutuhkan bantuan dari supervisor guna menyelesaikan masalah pembelajaran. b) Siklus pertama. Supervisor dan guru membuat instrumen, jadwal yang diperlukan. c) Siklus kedua. Supervisor melakukan observasi proses belajar mengajar secara tatap muka. d) Siklus ketiga. Guru dan supervisor menyampaikan pendapat tentang pembelajaran yang telah dilaksanakan. Supervisor tidak hanya memberi bimbingan tentang perbaikan pembelajaran saja. Tapi juga memberi motivasi dan semangat kepada guru. 2) Mutu belajar seraya bermain di TK Muslimat NU 8 meningkat dengan adanya supervisi klinis. Dibuktikan dengan adanya peningkatan nilai presentase supervisi klinis dari semester I ke semester II. Sehingga supervisi klinis sangat berpengaruh positif dan dibutuhkan guru untuk peningkatan mutu belajar seraya bermain di TK Musliamat NU 8.
