Abstract

This study aimed to identify barriers among fire-aware communities in fulfilling their role in forest and land fire control and to find out the MPA's institutional strategy for forest and land fire control. This study was carried out from November 2019 to December 2019 at Lukun Village, Tebing Tinggi Timur District, Meranti Islands Area with the survey method divided into two activities, the first being group discussion. gather and interview people interested in fire. The obstacles faced by community organizations related to fire are the lack of incentives for the MPA, inadequate equipment for extinguishing fires, limited water resources at the site, transportation and accessibility. At the time of extinguishing the fire was inadequate, no health. and ensure safety when extinguishing fire, when extinguishing. Institutional strategies for forest and land fire control include conducting periodic patrols, educating the community on the use of fire in plantations, and introducing village conventions on peat community activities. in gardens and forests, law enforcement against illegal logging in forested areas, and reserve replacement reservoirs. containment of water and channels to increase moisture and irrigation around potential wildfire risk areas and soil.

Abstract

In Teluk Rimba Village, Koto Gasib Subdistrict, Siak Regency, there are honey bee (Apis mellifera) businesses. These consist of five owners: Depra Group and Abdullah Madu Riau, established in 2020, and Young Daffa Madu, Madu Munthe Family, and Tunas Mekar, established in 2024. The beehives are located in the Industrial Plantation Forest (HTI) area of PT. Arara Abadi, Minas-Rasau Kuning District. This study focuses on cost analysis and business feasibility. No previous research has provided information on the current condition, business overview, cultivation practices, or feasibility of the honey bee ventures. This research analyzes the production costs, revenues, income, and feasibility of the Apis mellifera honey bee business in Teluk Rimba Village, Koto Gasib Subdistrict, Siak Regency. This research uses a mixed-method approach combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. The data analysis includes descriptive analysis, cost analysis, revenue, income, and Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C ratio) analysis. The results show that the total production cost of the Apis mellifera honey bee business from January to December 2024 was IDR 492,393,331. The total revenue for the same period was IDR 1,055,775,000. The net income generated was IDR 563,381,669. The R/C ratio analysis for the five honey bee businesses, Young Daffa Madu, Madu Munthe Family, Tunas Mekar, Depra Group, and Abdullah Madu Riau, shows that the total revenue divided by total production cost yielded a value of 2.14. This indicates that the honey bee business is profitable and feasible for development, as the R/C ratio value exceeds 1

Abstract

The need for chillies in Riau Province continues to increase along with the increase in population. The price of chillies in Riau is very dependent on supply; if it decreases, it causes the price of chillies to rise; this condition is an opportunity for chilli farmers in Riau to plant or agribusiness chillies. It is hoped that Padang Mutung Village, Kampar Riau Regency, can become a centre for chilli production because of the potential for rice fields, and most of the population's livelihood is farming. One component of chilli production costs is inorganic fertilizer, which tends to be expensive, so production costs increase. Continuous application of inorganic fertilizer can reduce soil fertility. This community service activity aims to increase farmers' understanding of the need for diversification by optimizing the use of paddy fields and fields by planting chillies, increasing farmers' understanding of zero waste-based straw compost-making techniques, which can then be used as a substitute for the use of inorganic fertilizers. The methods used are lectures, discussions and field practice. The activity results showed that after participating in the outreach and practical activities, participants gained knowledge, understood and were able to make rice straw compost and chilli seedlings. Participants will gain knowledge and understand the importance of diversifying the cultivation of chillies apart from rice to optimize the use of paddy fields, yards and idle land. Participants can also learn how to make straw compost and use it to grow fibre chillies, understanding that there is an opportunity to do chilli agribusiness to overcome the chilli shortage. It is hoped that the people of Padang Mutung Village will have increased awareness regarding crop diversification techniques for making straw compost as an alternative to reducing inorganic fertilizers, which will likely increase efficiency in chilli cultivation.

Abstract

Swietenia mahagoni can grow on marginal land and is suitable for use as a revegetation plant. Peat is classified as marginal soil due to its high organic acid content and low levels of macronutrients. One approach to improving the productivity of peat soil is the application of ameliorants, one of which is oil palm boiler ash. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of mixing peat with oil palm boiler ash and to determine the optimal composition of this mixture for the growth of mahogany seedlings. A completely randomized design (CRD) was employed, consisting of five treatments with four replications, resulting in a total of 20 experimental units. The planting media compositions tested were: P0 = 100% peat soil (control), P1 = 10% boiler ash + 90% peat soil, P2 = 15% boiler ash + 85% peat soil, P3 = 20% oil palm boiler ash + 80% peat soil, and P4 = 25% oil palm boiler ash + 75% peat soil. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26.0. The application of oil palm boiler ash had a significant effect on the growth of mahogany seedlings. The optimal composition was 15% boiler ash and 85% peat, which resulted in an average seedling height increase of 10.01 cm and an average dry weight of 6.61 g.
