Abstract

Freshwater lobster (C. quadricarinatus) is a commodity that lives in lakes, swamps, and rivers. Currently, freshwater lobsters are in great demand both for consumption and for aquarium aesthetics. This research is to increase the growth and survival of freshwater crayfish by using the method of different doses of glutamine in commercial feed. The research design carried out was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). consisting of 4 treatments with 3 repetitions. During the 35 day rearing period, research showed significant differences between each treatment in absolute weight growth, absolute length, weight growth percentage, daily growth rate, and survival of Freshwater Lobster (C. quadricarinatus). The use of glutamine in commercial feed shows that the best results in glutamine dosage for the growth of Freshwater Lobster (C.quadricarinatus) were found in the V2 treatment with a dose of 2% ml and the lowest in the control V0 treatment. This study recommends the use of glutamine in commercial feed to increase the growth and survival of freshwater lobsters (C. quadricarinatus)

Abstract

The depik (Rasbora tawarensis) is one of the leading fishery commodities in Central Aceh Regency and is endemic to Laut Tawar Lake. Due to overfishing and environmental degradation, the depik is now endangered, necessitating domestication. The success of the domestication stage is influenced by providing feed that meets the fish's needs, such as Artemia encapsulated with spirulina to enhance the nutritional quality of the Artemia. This study aims to evaluate the effect. of spirulina dosage as an Artemia enrichment material on the growth performance of depik. The applied research design was a completely randomized design with four treatments replicated four times. The treatments included Artemia without bioencapsulation (Treatment 1/P1), Artemia bioencapsulation with 0.5 g of spirulina powder per liter of water (Treatment 2/P2), Artemia bioencapsulation with 1 g of spirulina powder per liter of water (Treatment 3/P3), and Artemia bioencapsulation with 2 g of spirulina powder per liter of water (Treatment 4/P4). The parameters observed were absolute length growth (ALG), absolute weight growth (AWG), specific growth rate (SGR), and survival rate. Based on the ANOVA test, different doses of spirulina had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on the growth and survival of depik fry. The higher the dose given, the higher the growth and survival performance produced. Based on the Duncan test, the best treatment was shown in Treatment 4, namely the provision of bioencapsulated Artemia with 2 g of spirulina powder as feed for the depik fry.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the distribution of Cherax quadricarinatus based on depth and evaluate its invasiveness using a risk assessment in Lake Laut Tawar, Central Aceh. The study was conducted at five stations representing various lake activities: Station 1 (One-One), Station 2 (Bewang), Station 3 (Gegarang), Station 4 (Mendale), and Station 5 (Dedalu). The methodology involved direct observation in the field followed by laboratory analysis. The results showed that 284 individuals were caught, consisting of 138 females and 146 males, with carapace lengths ranging from 20 to 76 mm. No consistent distribution of male and female carapace lengths was observed across all stations. The abundance of Cherax quadricarinatus in Lake Laut Tawar was classified as very abundant (20%) at One-One and Bewang stations, both at a depth of 5 meters. In conclusion, Cherax quadricarinatus significantly dominates the lake ecosystem, as indicated by its relative abundance at different depths across the study sites. This species also shows a high potential for invasion in freshwater lakes, highlighting the need for effective management strategies. Keywords:Cherax quadricarinatusInvasive spesiesLake Laut Tawar, Aceh

Abstract

Tinfoil barb (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii) is freshwater fish found in Borneo, Java, and Sumatera including in Aceh Province waters. It is known as a native species in Indonesia, locally known as Tengadak or Lampan and this species is popular for consumption due to its taste. Tinfoil barb is targeted species of inland water for fisheries production. In recent years, the fish population has declined because of overexploitation and habitat degradation. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the effects of temperature on Tinfoil barb (B. schwanenfeldii) eggs incubation using a funnel system. It was conducted at Balai Benih Ikan (BBI) Lukup Badak, Central Aceh Regency. The Completely Randomized Design was used as a statistical analysis method with four treatments and three replications at 221 oC, 251 oC, 281 oC, and 311 oC. Hatching was carried out using a funnel system with 100 grain/liter of eggs density for incubation. The parameters measured were hatching time and rate, egg yolk absorption time, the survival rate of the embryo, larvae abnormality, and water quality. The ANOVA test results showed that temperature significantly affected hatching time and rate, egg yolk absorption time, and larvae abnormality (P0.05). In contrast, the effect was insignificant on the survival rate of an embryo, with P0.05. It is concluded that the optimum temperatures for Tinfoil barb eggs incubation were about 251 oC311 oC. A funnel system was more effective for incubation than the conventional system. Keywords:Tinfoil barbFishIncubationTemperatureFunnel System

Abstract

Environmental problems due to aquaculture occur along with the increase in aquaculture production. IMTA is one system used as a solution in dealing with environmental problems. The objective of this study was to analyze the growth performance, survival rate, and production of the main commodity (tilapia) and the supporting commodities (Peres, Lemeduk, and Depik) which are applied through the application of integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) using floating net cages. This research was conducted at the Lukup Badak Fish Seed Center, Central Aceh from July to August 2020. The experimental design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications, namely: A (tilapia), B (tilapia and peres), C (tilapia and lemeduk), and D (tilapia and depik). ANOVA test results showed that the IMTA system had a significant effect on absolute length growth, absolute weight growth, specific growth rate (SGR), survival rate, and biomass production of tilapia (P0.05). The results showed that maintenance for 42 days produced the highest value in treatment B with the increase in absolute length growth (4.26cm0.24); absolute weight growth (5.47g0.45), specific daily growth rate (2.28%/day0.13) and the highest tilapia biomass production (480g/0.5m219.25). The highest survival rate was found in treatment C (82.42%2.28). It was concluded that the treatment using the IMTA system was better than without the IMTA system. Keywords:IMTAWater qualityGrowth performanceTrophic interactionBiomass production

Abstract

Global biodiversity, especially fish, has experienced a decline, this occurs as a result of over-exploitation, the presence of introduced fish species and climate change. This condition makes researchers look for solutions to overcome these problems by using cryopreservation techniques. The main purpose of cryopreservation is to store, maintain, and ensure the survival of genetic material, so that using cryopreservation techniques can maintain the viability and function of gamete cells both immunologically, biologically and physiologically. The success of the cryopreservation technique has made this technique widely developed in various species of living organism including fish. This article summarizes and reviews the history of the development of cryopreservation of animal species with specific focus on fish. Keywords:CryopreservationHistoryDepikEndemic species
