Abstract

Written corrective feedback (WCF) is defined as some responses related to learners’ linguistic errors in written and used by teachers to help learners for improving their writing’s accuracy. It is necessary to understand regarding learners’ engagement with corrective feedback. By understanding learners’ engagement with written corrective feedback, teacher can determine the appropriate type of written corrective feedback which used as effective strategy in improving learners’ writing ability. This study aims to reveal learners’ perspectives on their engagement with written corrective feedback and learners’ engagement with peer written corrective feedback (WCF). This quantitative research obtained the data through questionnaires. These questionnaires aim to measure both learners’ engagement with teacher written corrective feedback and learners’ engagement with peer written corrective feedback. The results of the study indicate that learners are more engage and agree with teacher WCF practice (mean 35.5), rather than engagement with peer WCF practice (mean 30.8) since teacher WCF had greater positive impact for learners’ writing rather than peer WCF. This researches conclude that learners believe that teacher WCF more useful to locate their errors. Meanwhile, related to peer WCF, learners engage in affective by feeling happy, enthusiastic, and interested in receiving and reading peer WCF.

Abstract

This research aims to discover how English for Specific Purposes served the English subject materials at the Tourism department in tertiary education. A needs analysis is carried out to gain information about the student’s perception of English teaching and learning status in the Tourism department. The study's design is descriptive quantitative with a perceptional questionnaire as the primary research data collection instrument. The research participants were the students of the Tourism Department at the Muhammadiyah University of Gorontalo. The results showed that Tourism department students at the Muhammadiyah University of Gorontalo used textbooks that were still oriented towards general English, were not made for their specific department, and were not suited to their level of English mastery. Besides the motivation of students to learn English, the correlation of the English they learn with the needs of English for future work and institutional support also deserves attention. Therefore, developing ESP-based English teaching materials for Tourism students in tertiary institutions becomes a priority.

Abstract

Abstrak. Pemberdayaan ekonomi keluarga merupakan salah satu upaya pemerintah yang dilaksanakan dalam rangka meningkatkan taraf kesejahteraan hidup masyarakat. Salah satu solusi penting dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan PKM (Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat) adalah pelatihan untuk menambah skill bagi para pemuda Lingkungan Palemba yang kehilangan pekerjaan ataupun yang sementara dalam masa mecari pekerjaan yang sesuai dengan minat dan keahliannya. Pembuatan  kursi sofa  dengan  memanfaatkan botol  plastik  bekas  dalam  pengerjaannya. Dalam proses pengerjaan hanya dibutuhkan skill, kreatifitas, dan juga keterampilan yang dikuasai para pemuda Lingkungan Palemba agar dapat menjadi bekal bagi mereka. Tahap pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dibagi menjadi tiga tahapan: tahap persiapan, tahap pelaksanaan, terdiri dari: sosialisasi program, penyampaian materi, dan pelatihan, serta tahap evaluasi. Karajinan tangan dengan memanfaatkan bahan botol plastik bekas kemasan minuman mineral. Hasil dari bentuk kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan kepada Masyarakat Kelurahan Pattalassang, berupa kegiatan pelatihan pemanfaatan barang bekas menjadi kerajinan tangan yang berbahan dasar dari plastik untuk meningkatkan ekonomi kreatif. Luaran yang diharapkan dengan adanya produk pemanfaatan bahan bekas yang berupa kerajinan tangan kursi sofa yaitu produk yang dihasilkan akan menjadi produk yang unggul dan berinovasi bisnis baru di bidang industri rumah tangga sehingga dapat dikenal oleh seluruh masyarakat.Kata Kunci: Kursi Sofa,  Botol Plastik Bekas, Pemuda, Lingkungan Palemba

Abstract

This study aims to identify types of linguistic ambiguity in Ariana Grande’s songs using Stephen Ullmann’s framework and to interpret the multiple meanings created in the lyrics. Using a qualitative textual analysis, the research examines five songs Supernatural, No Tears Left to Cry, Break Free, Bloodline, and 7 Rings. The data consist of official lyrics obtained from AZLyrics and analyzed through identification, classification, and interpretation stages. The findings show two types of ambiguity: lexical ambiguity, which is dominant through polysemy, metaphors, and unclear pronoun references, and grammatical ambiguity through structures such as double negatives. Phonetic ambiguity does not appear. The study concludes that ambiguity is intentionally used as an artistic strategy, enriching emotional depth and expanding interpretive possibilities for listeners.

Abstract

Tongkonan is a traditional house of Torajan people. Tongkonan is a place to discuss or conduct traditional affairs, not just an extendeed family home and a place to maintain community ties. The aim of this research is to identify the meanings contained in tongkonan. In this research, researcher using qualitative methods, with the aim of researchers to find out the meaning of tongkonan for Torajan people. The meanings of tongkonan from Torajan cultural perspective are; tongkonan is symbol of lineage and family identity, tongkonan served as the center of traditional government, tongkonan is a center of traditional ceremonies and rituals, and tongkonan as symbol of cosmic harmony (Aluk Todolo). The research result show that Tongkonan is a source of pride and splendor for the entire Torajan tribe, as this traditional house serves not only as a residence but also as a kinship symbol for the entire Torajan family, even if some family members have passed away. Tongkonan is not only a place to live with extended family, but also a place to perform various traditional rituals and ceremonies, also tongkonan is not something that is 'chosen', but something that is determined by descent.

Abstract

Mysticism is a field that deeply connected with religious beliefs or spiritual experiences, mysticism has been used in many literary works such as film to increase the appeal of the literary works. This research is aimed to; (1) Find types of mysticism that contained in the Film of Noah 2014; (2) How mysticism portrayed in the film. The data used in the study came from the film of Noah 2014. The data is in form of cut scene that contain the mysticism phenomenon. The instrument of this research contains qualitative descriptive analysis, mysticism theory by Walter T. Stace as an analysis tool, and note taking technique as data collecting instrument. The data will be collected by watching the film several times and taking notes and pictures of the scene that contains mysticism phenomenon. The result of the analysis showed that there are two types of mysticism phenomenon that occurred in the film and it was portrayed as several miracles that happen around Noah as the Main character of the film.
