Abstract

This study examines the integration of innovative teaching and counseling techniques to promote early childhood growth and resilience, drawing on Constructivist Theory. Unlike previous research that examines these aspects separately, this study provides a holistic perspective. A descriptive, qualitative approach was employed in three kindergartens in Salatiga, Central Java, which were selected for their diverse educational practices. Fifteen experienced educators were purposefully chosen to ensure varied insights.Data collection included systematic observations and in-depth interviews. Observations, conducted over two weeks, documented teaching methods, counseling strategies, and educator-child interactions. Semi-structured interviews, lasting 30–60 minutes, further explored educators’ approaches and perceptions. The thematic analysis identified key patterns. Findings reveal that each kindergarten applied unique strategies. One integrated digital storytelling to enhance engagement, while another emphasized emotional regulation to foster resilience. Group activities facilitated collaboration and social learning. The study highlights how combining innovative teaching with adaptive counseling enhances cognitive, social, and emotional development. This study makes a unique contribution to early childhood education by demonstrating the effectiveness of integrating teaching innovations with counseling strategies. Recommendations emphasize the need for diverse teaching methods and adaptive counseling techniques to address various developmental needs, offering valuable insights for educators in enhancing children's resilience and growth.

Abstract

Purpose – This research explores the role of mindfulness counseling in reducing episodes of mania and depression in clients diagnosed with bipolar disorder within the context of Islamic higher education institutions. The study is framed within Kabat-Zinn’s theory of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), which emphasizes present-moment awareness and non-judgmental acceptance alongside the emotional regulation strategies from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) by Marsha Linehan. These frameworks were employed to support participants in managing emotional fluctuations and building coping strategies during counseling.Methodology – Using a multiple case study approach, three participants with a history of severe mood instability participated in eight weeks of mindfulness counseling sessions. These sessions integrated core mindfulness techniques, including body scanning, breath awareness, mindfulness meditation, and guided visualization. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and participant self-reports using mood-tracking journals.Findings – The findings indicated significant improvements across all three participants, including a marked reduction in the frequency and intensity of manic and depressive episodes. Participants demonstrated increased self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, and developed coping strategies for managing mood triggers. They reported a greater sense of control over their thought patterns and an enhanced sense of psychological resilience. This study highlights the effectiveness of mindfulness counseling as a promising adjunctive therapy for managing bipolar disorder.Contribution—By integrating mindfulness techniques within the context of counseling, participants were equipped with practical tools that contributed to their emotional stability and long-term psychological well-being. This research supports the potential of mindfulness practices to offer valuable support for individuals with bipolar disorder, especially in the setting of Islamic higher education institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the microsystem environment on students’ English achievement in a pesantren-based junior high school setting. The microsystem, as part of Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory, includes the students’ immediate environments such as family, peers, teachers, and school infrastructure, which are considered crucial in shaping their academic performance. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 151 junior high school students in two pesantren-based schools through a validated questionnaire and their English exam scores. The analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The findings reveal that the microsystem environment has a significant and positive effect on students’ English achievement (R² = 0.152, p < 0.01), this indicates that 15.2% of the variation in students’ English achievement is explained by their microsystem environment. The regression coefficient indicates that a more supportive and engaging microsystem is associated with higher English proficiency among students. These findings suggest the need for pesantren-based schools to enhance supportive and engaging environments to optimize students' academic success, particularly in English language learning.

Abstract

Growth mindset and students’ achievement have linearity in the previous studies. In EFL setting students’ achievement is related to English skills. Success in language learning is discovered by acquiring speaking ability. Thus this research aims to find out the correlation between students’ growth mindset and students’ speaking ability at the Second Semester Students of English Education Department of State Islamic University of Salatiga in t.rhe Academic Year 2021/2022. The methodology used in this study is quantitative method with correlational design. The techniques of collecting data are documentation and questionnaire. Data is analyzed in two ways. First, quantitative data was analyzed using statistical description and inferential descriptive. This study revealed that there is correlation between students’ growth mindset and students’ speaking ability. The value of Sig. (2-tailed) in the person correlation test is 0,027 which is bigger than 0,05 and it means that there is significant correlation between students’ growth mindset and students’ speaking ability. Meanwhile the correlation value is 0,27 that indicated the correlation is weak based on the degree of correlation table that correlation value between 0,21-0,40 is weak correlation. Further discussion is presented in this study.
