Abstract

Kata kunci: penyakit ginjal kronis; pendidikan kesehatan; pengetahuan Abstract Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health problem that can cause symptoms burden for patients. Currently, North Sulawesi ranks third highest for the prevalence of chronic kidney disease in Indonesia. The increase in prevalence is due to the lack of public awareness in living a healthy lifestyle and the increasing incidence of diseases that are risk factors. Therefore, this community service activity was carried out to increase the knowledge of people at risk regarding the prevention of CKD using lecture and discussion methods. This activity was carried out at Wenang Public Health Center on May 31, 2024 and Teling Atas Public Health Center on June 7, 2024, which were attended by 44 Prolanis participants. Based on the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, the Z value was -5.695 and the p-value was <0.001 (<0.05), which means that there was a difference in participants' knowledge about CKD before and after receiving health education. This also shows that there were 42 positive ranking values and two identical values, which means that 42 participants showed an increase in knowledge about CKD and two participants had the same knowledge after receiving health education. In conclusion, participants' knowledge about CKD prevention showed an increase after receiving health education. Keywords: chronic kidney disease; health education; knowledge

Abstract

Cancer is one of the main causes of mortality worldwide. Therefore, cancer is often associated with anxiety which can interfere with the quality of life in cancer patients. Anxiety causes dizziness, fast heart rate, difficulty breathing, and trembling. This study aimed to determine the anxiety of cancer patients receiving chamomile aromatherapy interventions. This type of research was quantitative research, using a quasi-experimental research design with a pre and posttest design without a control group. Scheme of pre-posttest design research design. The results of a study of 75 cancer patients at Stella Maris Makassar Hospital using the Wilcoxon alternative test showed that the p-value was 0.001 <0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of chamomile aromatherapy on the level of anxiety in cancer patients. The analysis results obtained on the level of anxiety experienced by cancer patients before being given chamomile aromatherapy, namely as much as 45.3% experienced moderate anxiety and after being given chamomile aromatherapy as much as 8% experienced moderate anxiety. This shows that there is a significant change in the anxiety level of the respondents after being given chamomile aromatherapy. Keywords: Cancer, Chamomile Aromatherapy, Anxiety

Abstract

Background: End-stage kidney disease (ESKD) represents an increasing health burden in Indonesia, with affected individuals experiencing complex needs that substantially diminish quality of life. Objective: aimed to identify palliative care needs among end-stage kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at a hemodialysis center in North Sulawesi in 2024. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling. The Sociodemographic Questionnaire and the Supportive and Palliative Care Indicators Tool (SPICT) were employed to collect sociodemographic data and identify potential palliative care needs. Univariate analysis was performed to examine palliative care needs among ESKD patients. Results: A total of 150 participants were included. Almost all respondents were identified as needing palliative care, with the majority presenting two general indicators and two clinical indicators. Conclusion: Nearly all patients with end-stage kidney disease undergoing haemodialysis are identified as having palliative care needs. This finding suggests the need to integrate routine palliative care assessment and services into patients with end- stage kidney disease, especially those in haemodialysis care to ensure comprehensive and patient-centered management of physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs.

Abstract

Introduction: Nursing education aims to produce graduates who are academically competent and professionally prepared for complex clinical practice. Clinical practice readiness is a key indicator of students’ successful transition to the real work environment. While previous studies highlight the influence of academic self-efficacy and personal responsibility, no research in Indonesia has yet examined their correlation with clinical practice readiness. Objective: This study aimed to describe and analyze the correlation between academic self-efficacy and personal responsibility with clinical practice readiness in nursing students. Method: This study used a cross-sectional quantitative research method. The population in this study consisted of nursing students at two nursing education institutions in Indonesia with a sample size of 346 respondents selected using the proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The Sociodemographic Questionnaire, The Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, Personal Responsibility Scale, and Readiness for Practice Survey were used in this study. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression test. Results: The results showed that the overall regression model was significant with a value of F= 50.31 and p-value= <0.001. This shows that simultaneously, gender, semester, GPA, academic self-efficacy, and personal responsibility make a significant contribution to the clinical practice readiness of nursing students. The Adjusted R² value was 0.417 which indicated that about 41.7% variability in the clinical practice readiness of nursing students can be explained by the model. Partially, semester (β = 0.141; p-value= 0.001), academic self-efficacy (β = 0.540; p-value= <0.001), and personal responsibility (β = 0.167; p-value= <0.001) had a significant positive effect on the clinical practice readiness of nursing students where academic self-efficacy was the most dominant predictor that affected the clinical practice readiness of nursing students. Conclusion and Recommendation: Simultaneously, gender, semester, GPA, academic self-efficacy, and personal responsibility made a significant contribution to the clinical practice readiness of nursing students. Tailored support from educational institutions considering demographic and academic characteristics and psychological factors is recommended to optimize nursing students’ clinical readiness.

Abstract

Background: Parents of children with leukemia experience an intensive and prolonged treatment process that frequently leads to significant psychological distress. As they adapt to their caregiving roles, these parents seek information from various sources; however, their information needs often go unmet, and little research examines how these needs change across the treatment trajectory. Objective: This study explored the information needs of parents of children with leukemia, focusing on the sources and content of information they use and the barriers they face in meeting these needs. Method: We used a qualitative approach, conducting semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 13 parents of 12 children diagnosed with leukemia at the Estella Pediatric Oncology Center, Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou General Hospital, Manado, Indonesia, between September 1 and 30, 2025. We recruited participants through purposive sampling until data saturation was achieved. We analyzed the data using thematic analysis in NVivo 15. Result:We identified two primary themes. The first theme, information during the care of a child with leukemia, encompassed sources of information (healthcare providers, the internet, and peer parents) and content areas (nutrition, hygiene, and activity restriction). The second theme, barriers to information, included psychological, cognitive, interactional, and family support barriers, which were most prominent early in treatment and diminished as trust with healthcare providers increased. Conclusion: The findings underscore the importance of healthcare providers pacing and personalizing communication based on parents' readiness, as well as implementing community-based education to address stigma and misconceptions related to childhood cancer.
