Abstract

This research discusses the socio-economic life of farmers in Nagari Air Dingin, Lembah Gumanti District, Solok Regency (2005-2022). This research uses historical research methods. The stages carried out are heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. Initially farmers in this area worked as passion fruit farmers. However, passion fruit only lasted for two decades and was replaced by onion crops. The causes are the eruption of Mount Talang, pest attacks on passion fruit stems, the difficulty of passion fruit growing again, land conversion and increasing development of onion cultivation. As a result, many farmers have switched from growing passion fruit to growing onions. The reason farmers choose to switch to onion plants is because onions have the opportunity to provide high yields and the increasing demand for onions. Apart from that, the transition from passion fruit to onions is also supported by geographical conditions that are suitable as an area for cultivating vegetable crops, especially onions.

Abstract

This article aims to address the issues related to the development of Kopi Nur industry in Sungai Penuh over the period from 1984 to 2019. The industry had two leadership periods: Nurcaya's leadership from 1984 to 2015, and Zefri Efdison's leadership from 2015 to 2019. The research employs a historical method, encompassing heuristic data collection, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. During the heuristic phase, primary sources such as books, government-related data, relevant scholarly articles, certificates, and company records were collected. Interviews with informants were also conducted. Under Nurcaya's leadership from 1984 to 2015, Kopi Nur initially used water wheels for production but shifted to machinery due to increased demand. During Zefri Efdison's leadership, rapid coffee industry growth occurred due to effective sales management and workforce handling. To boost consumer interest, Zefri Efdison engaged in exhibitions and training programs. The study's findings conclude that Kopi Nur originated from Bukit Apit coffee in Bukittinggi and evolved into a family business under Nurcaya. Over 35 years since the introduction of the Kopi Nur brand, significant development has occurred, yielding positive impacts on the sustainability of Kopi Nur business.

Abstract

The Legislative Elections of Kerinci District in the 2004-2024 period indicate that women's representation in the legislature remains limited, despite the fact that the number of female voters is higher than male voters, and the 30% quota for female candidates has been met. However, the number of elected female candidates is still far from expectations. The aim of this study is to examine the struggles of female legislative candidates, both those who were elected and those who were not, in their efforts to become members of the legislature. The research method used historical methods. To analyze the struggles of female candidates, political participation theory, which explains the involvement of individuals or groups in the political process, and political mobilization theory, which focuses on efforts to encourage individuals to participate in politics, are applied. The study shows that female representation in the politics of Kerinci Regency still faces many challenges and does not reflect true political participation. Women are often treated as mere fillers for the 30% quota without sufficient support from political parties. Economic resource limitations and low party support hinder their campaigns and make it difficult to build political networks. The research findings reveal that women’s representation tends to be symbolic. Female candidates are often included merely to fulfill the quota, without meaningful support from political parties, particularly regarding strategic list placement and access to political resources. Economic constraints, patriarchal culture, and low self-confidence reinforce male dominance in the local political structure. These findings affirm that women’s participation is hindered by structural barriers and ineffective mobilization. Therefore, political party reform and cultural transformation are essential to ensure equal participation opportunities for women in politics.

Abstract

This study examines the Blue Revolution and its impact on changes in fishing gear among fishermen in Jujun Village, who have shifted from using traditional to modern fishing methods—a trend also observed among fishermen living around Lake Kerinci. The purpose of this research is to analyze the implementation of the Blue Revolution in Keliling Danau Sub-district. Employing historical methods, the study follows several stages, including data collection (heuristics), source criticism, data interpretation, and historiography. The findings reveal that since the introduction of the Blue Revolution in 1970, fishermen in Jujun Village have experienced significant advancements in fishing gear. This progress became increasingly evident by 2010, marked by the adoption of more modern technologies such as lighted bagan tancap, iron fish traps, and motorboats. The study concludes that the transformation initiated by the Blue Revolution has continuously influenced the development and modernization of fishing practices among the fishermen in Jujun Village.
