Abstract

One of the most important fields of knowledge that contributes to understanding the Book of Allah (the Qur'an) is the study of language. Among the linguistic disciplines essential for comprehending the meanings of the Qur'an is semantics. The study of semantics has become a branch of modern linguistics that examines the meanings of words and their relationships with other meanings. Among the scholars who have studied the semantic relationships of Qur'anic vocabulary is Toshihiko Izutsu. Izutsu explains that this approach seeks to analyze Qur'anic terms and trace the history of their usage, both before the advent of Islam and after the revelation of the Qur'an, in order to clarify their intended meanings. One important approach to understanding the meaning of a word is the study of semantic synonymy. By recognizing synonymic relationships, one can better grasp the precise meaning intended within the context of a particular Qur'anic verse, thereby avoiding confusion between words that appear similar in meaning but differ in their actual usage. Accordingly, this article discusses the semantic relationships among Qur'anic vocabulary, with particular attention to synonymic relations.

Abstract

Arabic has become one of the world's major languages, playing a significant role in international cultural, intellectual, economic, political, and communicative spheres. Consequently, language learning has emerged as an essential competency for contemporary generations and a key requirement for fostering mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue among diverse societies. As language education continues to evolve through advances in educational technology, innovative approaches are needed to improve the teaching and learning of Arabic for non-native speakers. Modern Arabic language instruction should be guided by internationally recognized pedagogical, technological, linguistic, and cultural standards, encompassing effective content delivery, digital learning resources, instructional strategies, and assessment methods to ensure quality, accessibility, and sustainability. This article presents an image-based approach to Arabic language teaching, highlighting the use of visual media as both an instructional tool and a teaching strategy to facilitate language acquisition and enhance learners' engagement and comprehension.

Abstract

The study of dictionary classification is one of the branches of philology that focuses on the methods of compiling dictionaries with the aim of clarifying the meanings of words in a language. Dictionary compilation employs various classification methods that differ according to the lexicographical school adopted. These include the anagrammatic (taqlīb) school, the rhyme (qāfiyah) school, the alphabetical school, and several other lexicographical traditions. An understanding of these schools enables users to benefit more effectively from dictionaries by familiarizing themselves with the methods employed by their compilers, the principles underlying their organization, and the appropriate ways to use them. The standard alphabetical method is one of the major approaches to dictionary classification. In this method, lexical entries are arranged into sections and chapters according to the normal sequence of letters in each word. The arrangement begins with the first letter, followed by the second and third letters, without rearranging or permuting the root letters. Thus, dictionary entries are organized according to the first letter while taking into account the second and third letters in their natural order. This method has become one of the simplest and most accessible systems for learners of Arabic. Based on this background, the researchers consider the study of this method essential for students of Arabic and scholars interested in lexicography. Therefore, this article aims to describe and analyze the standard alphabetical method employed in the classification of Al-Munjid Dictionary.

Abstract

Thinking is a rational cognitive process that is not directly connected to external objects in the same way as sensory perception; rather, it operates through mental activity. Cognitive activity is closely associated with language, which functions as a medium for thought and communication among members of society. Language itself is realized through a linguistic organization within the brain, the organ that serves as the central regulator of the thinking process. Through the interaction of language and thought, human beings formulate goals that mentally precede the outcomes of their actions. Consequently, thinking is expressed in various forms, including concepts, judgments, reasoning, theories, and other cognitive structures. This article seeks to present several fundamental issues concerning the relationship between language and thought, as well as the cognitive processes that occur within the brain. In its concluding section, the article discusses how linguistic thought is produced in the brain from the perspective of neurolinguistics.

Abstract

The teaching of Arabic, like the teaching of any other language, aims not merely to train learners to pronounce Arabic sounds, memorize vocabulary, or master grammatical structures; rather, it seeks broader and deeper educational objectives. Specialists in Arabic language education generally identify three fundamental competencies that should be achieved through Arabic language instruction: linguistic competence, communicative competence, and cultural competence. These three competencies represent the primary goals of second-language learning and should be developed in an integrated manner throughout the instructional process. Since language is the vessel of culture, it is difficult to learn a language without being exposed to the culture of its speakers, including their values, beliefs, lifestyles, and patterns of behavior. Following the revelation of the Qur’an and the mission of the Prophet Muhammad, Arabic culture became closely associated with Islamic civilization, and the Arabic language assumed a central role as the language of Islamic worship and cultural expression. Within the context of teaching Arabic as a second language, this close relationship between language and culture has raised important questions among scholars and educators, including which culture should be taught—Arab, Islamic, or national culture—how cultural content should be presented in second-language instruction, and whether Arabic culture can be integrated with learners’ local cultures. This article explores the relationship between culture and Arabic language teaching and discusses these key issues in order to provide a clearer understanding of the role of culture in teaching Arabic as a second language.

Abstract

This paper aims to interpret the kenduri tradition from the point of view of multicultural Islamic education. By focusing on three issues cover values, the internalization process, and the implications of internalizing the values of multicultural Islamic education. In this case the type of research used is qualitative with an ethnographic approach. The results show that the values of multicultural Islamic education in kenduri can be classified into three groups, divine values, religious values, and social values. These values can be internalized through awareness, knowledge transformation, skill development, habituation, inculcation of values, and finally habit or istiqoamah. This process is a stage of Islamic education that must be passed step by step to produce a complete person (kaffah). In the kenduri tradition, the internalization of the values of multicultural Islamic education does not only involve the human element, but non-human elements are also needed, for example goals, methods, a comfortable environment, dialogue and cooperation with outsider.
