Abstract

Mass media is a source of information, one of which is information about religion, including Islam. This study aims to examine how issues about Islam are represented in Japan through the mass media Ito Shinbun. This study uses a descriptive research method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected from articles in the digital version of Ito Shinbun newspaper. Based on the research results it was found that Ito Shinbun represented or reported issues related to Islam in a neutral way. In addition, it is also found that Islamic beliefs are written in Ito Shinbun's news which includes the concept of rejection of LGBT, law and sharia, halal food, and Islamic teachings that do not discriminate against humans

Abstract

In the Kupatan tradition, a common effort for blessings and prosperity is being undertaken by an entire community. This study uses qualitative method which aims to focus on implementation, the symbolic interpretation of food, and the philosophical values that exist in the Kupatan tradition. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. Meanwhile, data collection method used by researchers in the form of observation, interview techniques, and literature study. According to the results of this study, there are many symbolic meanings of food in the implementation of the kupatantradition, starting from what is categorized as the main food, namely kupat, along with the meaning of the raw material, namely white rice and its wrapping material, namely coconut leaves, as well as the symbolic meaning of various complementary foods in this tradition. Furthermore, the philosophical value is also analyzed in the form of implementing the Kupatan tradition which concludes that the implementation of the Kupatan tradition can shape the Tulungagung community in living a positive, tolerant, and harmonious social life with one another. Researchers hope that this tradition can be preserved by future generations and will be reviewed by future researchers in order to provide and find more up-to-date studies of the Kupatan tradition.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the acculturation of Islamic cultural values ​​which include processions, the meaning of tools and materials, and the social values ​​of the Notonegoro perspective contained in the pèlèt betteng tradition in the people of Pademawu District, Pamekasan Regency, Madura. This research has an urgency as a written documentation of ancestral heritage that should be preserved and implemented. This research is a qualitative research type with a field research design. Research subjects were selected through a purposive sampling technique. The data collected in this study consisted of two data, namely the main data in the form of research subject interview data and other supporting data. The data analysis method used is inductive analysis. The results showed that the procession of the pèlèt betteng ceremony in Pademawu District, Pamekasan Regency had six core processions, namely ngajjhi, pèlèt betteng, neḍḍhâ nyèyor ban tellor, siraman, bhânteng nyèyor, and rojhâk gobet. The meaning contained in the tools and materials also uses more meaning that comes from the view of life of the community itself. In addition, there are three social values ​​from Notonegoro's perspective in the traditional ceremony of pèlèt betteng for the people of Pademawu District, Pamekasan Regency, namely material values, vital values, and spiritual values.
