Abstract

Utilization of coconut and candlenut plants in Indonesia is still limited to the utilization of the fruit flesh, so that the waste resulting from the use of coconuts, namely the shell, has not been utilized optimally, especially in North Sulawesi. The aim of this study was to look at the functional groups in the activated carbon of coconut shell charcoal and aleirites moluccana (pecan shell) charcoal using Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR). The results of this study showed that the activated carbon of coconut shell charcoal and aleirites moluccana (pecan shell) charcoal had functional groups O-H, C=C, C-O, C-H. This group is an arrangement that belongs to an activated carbon.

Abstract

Students face numerous challenges in comprehending thermodynamics concepts and principles. The empirical approach and portfolio assessment technique were used to encourage educators to determine good teaching strategies and motivate students. The purpose of carrying out this research was to develop thermodynamics teaching materials with an empirical approach and portfolio assessment techniques. This research uses a mix method, namely qualitative and quantitative with development research using the Borg and Gall models. This research was conducted on students majoring in Physics Education. Based on the validation results of material experts 91.9% and media expert validation 80.9% that this teaching material is feasible to use. The results of the one-party t-test were given treatment in the learning process, namely an empirical approach with a portfolio assessment technique. Then given a posttest or final test as evaluation material. The data obtained was then processed to test descriptive research data, data normality, hypothesis testing and N-Gain testing with the help of SPSS 22.0 for windows. With an average result 47.25 of pretest and 81.25 of posttest. The N-Gain results are in the medium and high categories and the average result is 0.64 which shows an increase in student results in thermodynamics courses. Students can get information through direct experience, making what they learn more tangible and learning more meaningful and exciting since it helps them to think critically.

Abstract

Symbolic computing emphasizes the exact processing of data representations. The exact representative states that even though the output is small, the data generated using processing can produce larger mathematical expressions. To overcome this problem, a method needs to be used in representing data. This process is carried out to solve a physical problem in the case of the center of gravity on a triangle. Symbolic programming languages can convert rational numbers, so that this symbolic processing can be applied to inductively validate geometric theorems in the case of triangular center.

Abstract

Abstract

Spent coffee grounds are an abundant organic waste material. Spent coffee grounds have significant potential as an environmentally friendly alternative energy source in bio-battery technology. This study aims to analyze the effect of KOH molarity concentration on the electrical properties of coffee ground-based bio-batteries. Variations in KOH molarity solutions of 1M, 3M, and 5M, each mixed with 50 grams of spent coffee grounds, were utilized to evaluate their effect on the electrical properties, including current, voltage, and power output. The results indicate that increasing the molarity concentration significantly enhances the bio-battery's performance, as evidenced by increased voltage and maximum power output. The highest electrical power output, 97.2 mW, was achieved at a 5M KOH concentration. The study concludes that selecting the appropriate molarity concentration is a key factor in optimizing the performance of coffee ground-based bio-batteries. This research contributes to the advancement of renewable energy development from organic waste.

Abstract

This study aims to examine students' perceptions of the use of a bio-battery practicum module utilizing coffee grounds in physics education on the topic of renewable energy. The research involved 12 students from SMA Negeri 2 Tomohon as participants. The evaluation instrument consisted of a questionnaire with 11 questions grouped into three primary indicators: module appearance, material presentation, and module benefits. The findings revealed that the module appearance indicator was rated as excellent on three questions (100%, 83.33%, and 100%) and good on one question (66.67%). The material presentation indicator received excellent ratings across all questions, ranging from 83.33% to 100%. Similarly, the module benefits indicator achieved excellent ratings for all questions (100%). Despite these positive results, a few neutral responses were observed on questions concerning the module’s design and illustrations (33.33% and 16.67%) and material clarity (16.67%). Overall, the module demonstrated a high level of effectiveness, with the majority of scores exceeding 76%, placing it in the "excellent" category. These results underscore the significant potential of the bio-battery practicum module as an innovative educational tool to enhance students' understanding of renewable energy concepts at the high school level.
