Abstract

The mindset of the people during the coronavirus pandemic began to change, especially in terms of the consumption of food ingredients that can increase immunity, also called functional food ingredients. Biopharmaceutical commodities are resources that can be used and utilized to make processed products in the form of functional food. This is supported by the existence of human resources and the use of simple technology in society. Biopharmaceuticals are all natural resources (plants, animals, microbes) that have functions and properties for health or as medicine. Some of the functions of biopharmaceuticals include preventive (disease prevention); promotive (improving health status); curative (healing disease); improvement of nutritional status. To increase public knowledge about biopharmaceuticals as well as community empowerment efforts in the use of biopharmaceuticals, the Community Empowerment Program (Prodamat) was carried out. This activity was carried out online with a zoom platform which was attended by 21 participants. Participants who took part in the activity came from Magelang, Central Java, and Palasa, Central Sulawesi. At the end of the activity, an evaluation of the participants' knowledge was carried out by filling out a questionnaire on Google Forms. The level of understanding of participants about biopharmaceuticals prior to counseling was an average of 48.02%. After the counseling was carried out, the average level of understanding of the participants was 80.11%. Then the participants' understanding increased by 32.09%. Meanwhile, the level of satisfaction of the participants with the implementation of Prodamat resulted in 7.5% being satisfied, 12.5% ​​being quite satisfied, and 77.5% being very satisfied.

Abstract

White radish (Raphanus sativus L.) is a food plant with promising potential for development as a raw material for traditional medicines and functional foods. The microbiological quality of plant extracts is a critical parameter in ensuring product safety, particularly with regard to microbial contamination. By measuring the Total Plate Count (TPC) and Yeast and Mold Count (YMC), this study sought to assess the microbiological contamination of the ethanol extract of white radish tubers.  In order to measure live microorganisms expressed as CFU/g, the experiments were carried out using the pour plate technique on plate count agar (PCA).  The findings demonstrated that the ethanol extract's TPC and YMC values were both less than 1 × 10¹ CFU/g. These values are significantly lower than the maximum limits required by BPOM Regulation Number 29/2023, namely ≤10⁵ CFU/g for TPC and ≤10³ CFU/g for YMC. These findings indicate that the extraction and handling processes produced an extract with minimal microbial contamination. Overall, the results demonstrate that the ethanol extract of white radish meets microbiological safety requirements and is suitable for use as a raw material candidate in the development of traditional medicinal products.

Abstract

Rodamin B adalah zat pewarna sintetik yang bisa digunakan untuk mewarnai kertas, tekstil dan tinta. Rodamin B dilarang penggunaannya menurut peraturan Mentreri kesehatan Republik Indonesia No.376/Menkes/Per/1990 karena dapat merusak hati, ginjal, dan limfa beserta perubahan anatomi pembesaran organ. Pada umumnya, rodamin B digunakan untuk mewarnai produk makanan, minuman, obat dan kosmetik bertujuan untuk mendapatkan warna yang lebih menarik. Dalam penelitian ini, metode kromatografi lapis tipis (KLT) digunakan untuk penentuan kadar rodamin B pada lipstik. Sampel diambil dari salah satul lipstik yang dijual di Pasar Bantul. Sample direndam menggunakan amonia dan penggunaan benang wol digunakan untuk menarik warna pada rodamin B, kemudian metode kromatografi lipis tipis dijalankan untuk identifikasi senyawa tersebut dengan menggunakan lampu UV (254 dan 366 nm). Metode spektrofotometri UV-Vis dilakukan untuk mengkuantifikasi kadar rodamin B. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa tidak ada senyawa rodamin B pada sampel yang dipilih.

Abstract

Lobak putih (Raphanus sativus L.) merupakan tanaman yang mengandung flavonoid, fenolik, dan saponin yang berperan sebagai antioksidan. Flavonoid merupakan senyawa fenolik alami yang sangat umum ditemukan pada berbagai jenis tanaman. Senyawa ini mengandung satu atau lebih gugus hidroksil (-OH) yang terikat pada cincin aromatik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan jenis pelarut terhadap kadar total flavonoid dan fenolik dalam ekstrak umbi lobak putih. Penelitian yang dilakukan merupakan penelitian eksperimental laboratorium. Tahapan penelitian meliputi pengambilan sampel, pembuatan simplisia, ekstraksi maserasi umbi lobak putih dengan menggunakan variasi pelarut yaitu etanol 70%, Etil Asetat, dan N-heksana. Pengukuran kadar flavonoid dan fenolik total dilakukan menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis.Hasil skrining fitokimia pada masing-masing ekstrak mengandung senyawa metabolit sekunder yaitu alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin dan fenolik. Diperoleh kadar total flavonoid ekstrak umbi lobak putih pada pelarut etanol 70%, Etil Asetat, dan N-heksana berturut-turut 3,433 ± 0,298 mgQE/g; 0,146 ± 0,012 mgQE/g; 0,516 ± 0,026 mgQE/g. Sementara kadar total fenolik berturut-turut yaitu 24,53 ± 0,502 mgGAE/g; 4,4 ± 2,367 mgGAE/g; 6,65 ± 4,038 mgGAE/g. Berdasarkan hasil  analisis One Way ANOVA membuktikan bahwa variasi jenis pelarut memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap kadar flavonoid dan fenolik total ekstrak umbi lobak putih dengan nilai signifikansi masing-masing 0,000* dan 0,001* (P<0,05).

Abstract

Indonesia possesses abundant natural resources with significant potential for the development of nutraceutical foods and traditional medicines. However, many local plants remain insufficiently studied regarding their efficacy and safety. One promising plant is the white radish tuber (Raphanus sativus L.), which offers various health benefits and potential as a functional food ingredient. This study aims to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of the ethanol extract of white radish tubers on paw edema in male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced with 1% carrageenan. The research employed a laboratory experimental design, producing ethanol extracts using three solvent concentrations—50%, 70%, and 96%—followed by phytochemical screening. Anti-inflammatory activity was tested using five treatment groups: a negative control (1% CMC-Na), a positive control (diclofenac sodium 2.25 mg/kgBW), and three extract groups administered at 300 mg/kgBW according to the respective ethanol concentrations. The primary parameter measured was the volume of edema formed in the rats’ paws. Phytochemical screening revealed that the ethanol extract contained secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins, all known to possess anti-inflammatory properties. The extracts produced edema inhibition rates of 31.02% (50%), 21.80% (70%), and 18.44% (96%), comparable to diclofenac sodium at 18.63%. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA indicated an overall difference among the treatment groups. However, post-hoc Tamhane T2 analysis demonstrated that the anti-inflammatory activities of the 50%, 70%, and 96% ethanol extracts were not significantly different (p > 0.05), although all extract groups exhibited anti-inflammatory activity comparable to diclofenac sodium.
