Abstract

Currently, gardening is one of the popular activities during the COVID-19 pandemic situation to relieve boredom and psychological pressure. The phenomenon that occurs in people's behavior in responding to this trend, especially residents of middle-class housing clusters, is an interesting research subject. Specifically, this qualitative research with a design sociology approach aims to determine the criteria for pot design that people are interested in, as well as to provide recommendations for suitable pot designs for home gardening activities. Residents of the middle-class housing cluster were chosen as the target for obtaining data, based on the limitation of yard that leads to pots usage for planting. The data was collected from 104 respondents through questionnaires, interviews, and field observations. Based on the results of data analysis, the following pot design criteria were obtained: using clay material, minimalist shape, easy to move, come in different sizes, natural color, easy to obtain, and affordable in price. The results of the study in the form of design recommendations were then implemented with reference to these criteria, involving pottery craftsmen from the pottery center of Pundong, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta.

Abstract

For the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) which will take place on February 14, 2024, the three pairs of President and Vice President Candidates for the 2024 Election are carrying out a campaign by distributing posters in various locations and media. These posters use various visual communication approaches, which can be examined in more depth in how the visual aspects and visual communication in them reproduce to form an image representing the identity of candidate pairs, and how the visual approaches used by the three pairs of President and Vice President Candidates in the 2024 Election compare. This research aims to describe the visual variety of posters for candidate pairs and to describe a comparison of the visual communication approaches for the posters of the three pairs of President and Vice President Candidates in the 2024 Election. This research uses qualitative methods. The data collection method was direct visual observation in Jakarta, documented using photography methods, while visual observation via the internet and social media was then documented using screenshot techniques. The visual objects used as poster model samples were selected using purposive sampling, namely with the aim of the diversity of visual communication approaches used on posters. The analysis was carried out in 2 (two) stages, the first was an analysis of the visual elements of each poster model based on the sequence of President and Vice President Candidate Numbers that had been determined by the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia, and the second was a comparative analysis of the visual communication approaches carried out by each -each candidate. The results of this research are a comparative description of the visual communication approaches for the posters of the three President and Vice President Candidates which represent the figure of the candidate pair in the 2024 Election.

Abstract

Ceramic mosaic is the art of arranging or combining ceramic pieces of certain colors and sizes to form an aesthetic pattern. Based on the evaluation results on the previous Community Service (PkM) implementation, it was found that the knowledge of the participants about mosaics, especially in terms of composition of shapes and colors, had not been fully mastered. Referring to this, this PkM activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of participants in the Asem Baris area of gang V, RT 05, RW 05, in applying mosaics to furniture in the form of tables made of used wood. The method used in the preparation stage was to conduct experiments to obtain ceramics as the main raw material for mosaics, and to design a table with a disassembly system. At the stage of implementing PkM, the parsipatory and mentoring methods are carried out during the product development process.   The results of this activity showed an increase in the participants' understanding and skills in applying the composition of shapes and colors in mosaics. This can be seen in the results of PkM in the form of mosaics with interesting abstract and regular patterns even though they only use a combination of two colors

Abstract

AbstractMeans of food selling in the form of carts are commonly found in Jakarta urban area. One of them is Jakarta’s typical food cart of ketoprak’s food cart. The increase of this Jakarta’s typical food industries made several kinds of ketoprak’s food carts in unique characteristic. The object of this research is ketoprak’s food cart in Jakarta urban area, especially in housing area of Sector 1-9 Bintaro Jaya. The ketoprak’s food cart has a unique characteristic of form and meaning and certain function related to their user in Jakarta, which is interesting to explore and becoming the problem of this research. This research aims to understand the meanings of sign and for of ketoprak’s food cart as a representation of urban community behaviors, and to understand the relation between ketoprak’s food cart form to the user’s activity when selling and making ketoprak. The method in this research is qualitative descriptive, with product design semiotic approach which are analysis of semantic, syntactic, hyletic and pragmatic dimension of ketoprak’s food cart. The data collecting methods are observation and interview to user (seller). The result of this research is ketoprak’s food cart description and models classification and relation of meaning and form in semantic, syntactic, hyletic, pragmatic dimension, and also operational ergonomics and mobility of the users. Key word: food cart, ketoprak, product semiotics, meaning, form   AbstrakSarana berjualan dalam bentuk gerobak masih banyak ditemui di wilayah perkotaan Jakarta. Salah satunya adalah gerobak makanan khas Jakarta yaitu ketoprak. Perkembangan industri kecil makanan khas Jakarta ini membuat terdapat beberapa macam bentuk gerobak makanan ketoprak yang memiliki karakteristik yang khas. Objek penelitian ini adalah gerobak makanan ketoprak yang terdapat di wilayah kota Jakarta, khususnya di kawasan wilayah perumahan Bintaro Jaya sektor 1-9. Gerobak makanan ketoprak memiliki kekhasan bentuk dengan makna dan fungsi tertentu yang berhubungan dengan kondisi penggunanya di Jakarta, yang menarik untuk dikaji lebih lanjut dan menjadi masalah dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami makna tanda, bentuk gerobak makanan ketoprak sebagai representasi perilaku masyarakat urban dan juga untuk memahami relasi antara bentuk produk gerobak makanan ketoprak dengan aktivitas pengguna saat menjajakan dan mengolah makanan ketoprak. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dengan pendekatan semiotika desain produk yaitu analisis dimensi semantik, sintaktik, hiletik dan pragmatik dari objek produk gerobak makanan ketoprak. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui metode observasi dan pengumpulan data faktual dari objek penelitian dalam lingkup ruang penelitian, melalui wawancara terhadap pengguna (pedagang). Hasil penelitian ini adalah deskripsi bentuk gerobak ketoprak berdasarkan kelompok-kelompok modelnya, dan relasi perbedaan makna dan bentuk gerobrak makanan dalam dimensi semantik, sintaktik, hiletik, pragmatik, serta fungsi dan kegunaan, ergonomi operasional dan mobilitas sarana oleh pedagang yang menggunakannya. Kata Kunci: gerobak makanan, ketoprak, semiotika produk, makna, bentuk
