Abstract

Stunting in infants and toddlers is a chronic nutritional problem that requires comprehensive management and involves various cross-sectors. In 2018, it was determined that stunting management was a national development priority through the National Action Plan for Nutrition and Food Security in Indonesia. Tanjang Morawa District is one of the cases where there are cases of stunting. Stunting management efforts by optimizing conditions in the first 1000 days of life (HPK) can be implemented at Posyandu. Posyandu as a form of community empowerment in the health sector has a strategic role, however, because posyandu cadres have a diverse educational and socio-cultural background, their knowledge and skills need to be continuously updated. In the case of stunting, various studies have shown that the knowledge and skills of cadres related to stunting and prevention efforts are mostly not good, therefore efforts to increase the capacity of posyandu cadres are important. The training activities for 20 posyandu cadres were carried out in three stages, namely program socialization, training preparation and implementation, using a deductive model approach, training materials were compiled based on field observation data which was then discussed with expert sources. After training posyandu cadres can better understand balanced nutrition, early detection of stunting and the important role of posyandu cadres to inform optimal nutrition at 1000 HPK as an effort to prevent stunting and identify risk factors for stunting in the posyandu working area. It is known from the increase in the results of knowledge on the test after training. It is hoped that this capacity building will be made as continuous training that is periodic and well programmed

Abstract

As an obligation carried out by Muslims, fasting is a partial fasting group, namely fasting that is carried out periodically. One indication of fasting is categorized as good if it begins with breaking the fast, ending sahur, stopping eating before being full. During the fasting period, it is highly recommended to maintain a balanced diet. In addition to the nutritional content, the form / type of food served also needs to be considered so that the implementation of fasting goes well and without causing health problems, especially in the stomach organ. This PKM activity was carried out with the aim of increasing knowledge and understanding in the application of balanced nutrition during fasting worship with the target of PKK mothers in Perbarakan Village, Lubuk Pakam District. Pre and post tests were conducted to see if there was an increase in understanding of balanced nutrition. Activities are carried out by providing information in the form of balanced nutrition counseling and tips on how to manage balanced nutrition in the family. The implementation time of the activity is 1 week with a total of four meetings. After the counseling is done, it is hoped that there will be an increase in knowledge about balanced nutrition which will later be applied in their respective homes during the fasting period. During the extension, the implementation team also provided props in the form of food models and leaflets. The results obtained can be observed in the graphic images that will be displayed where there is an increased understanding of balanced nutrition. In addition, the existence of teaching aids also helps facilitate the delivery of balanced nutrition material.

Abstract

Background: Cholesterol is essential for the formation of cell membranes, bile salts, hormones, and vitamin D, as well as serving as an energy source. Reduced physical activity in middle-aged adults can decrease organ function and increase the risk of metabolic disorders, while a diet high in saturated fat and low in fiber may elevate blood cholesterol levels. This study aimed to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity with total cholesterol levels in middle-aged adults in Petapahan Village, Deli Serdang Regency. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design with 47 respondents, data were collected through interviews, the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), a physical activity questionnaire, and cholesterol meter measurements, and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed that 64% of respondents frequently consumed certain foods, 57% had light physical activity, and 36% had high cholesterol levels. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity with total cholesterol levels (p = 0.000), indicating that both factors are associated with cholesterol levels in middle-aged adults.

Abstract

Background: Gout arthritis is one of the non-communicable diseases that commonly affects the elderly due to a high-purine diet and lack of nutritional knowledge. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of counseling in increasing knowledge and low-purine dietary patterns in patients with gout arthritis. This study used a mixed-methods approach with a one-group pretest-posttest research design. The sample consisted of 22 elderly patients with gout arthritis at Puskesmas Bintang Bayu. Data were collected through a knowledge questionnaire, 24-hour food recall, and in-depth interviews. The results showed a significant increase in the level of knowledge (p=0.001) and dietary patterns after the counseling intervention. Most respondents showed behavioral changes in consumption that aligned with a low-purine diet and increased diet adherence. Low-purine diet counseling is effective in increasing knowledge and dietary patterns in patients with gout arthritis. Therefore, it is recommended to continue implementing this program.

Abstract

Adolescents are an age group vulnerable to nutritional problems due to limited understanding of a balanced diet. One strategy to improve nutritional literacy in adolescents is through education using simple, attractive, and easy-to-understand media, such as leaflets. This study aims to analyze the effect of leaflet-based "Isi Piringku" education on improving knowledge of balanced nutrition in eighth-grade students at the UPT SMP Negeri 31 Medan Tuntungan. The study design used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest. The number of respondents was 72 people selected using a simple random sampling technique. The research instrument was a nutritional knowledge questionnaire containing 20 multiple-choice questions. Data were analyzed using a Paired Sample t-Test. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 32.82 before education to 57.64 after the intervention, with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). This proves that education through leaflets has a significant effect on improving students' knowledge of balanced nutrition. Thus, leaflets can be used as an effective, practical, and engaging learning medium to help adolescents understand guidelines for healthy food consumption.
