Abstract

The elderly population continues to increase not only in the world, but also in Indonesia. One of the cities that contribute to increasing the number of elderly people in Indonesia is Depok, West Java. Elderly is a stage that has experienced many changes and faced various challenges in life. The elderly tend to experience a decline in various aspects. They experience changes in physical, psychological, and social aspects. The changes that occur and all the challenges that must be faced can have an impact on the physical, mental and functioning of life. This study aims to examine whether mindfulness and religious coping have an effect on the mental health of the elderly in Depok city. The sample used were 282 elderly people who were taken using a non-probability sampling technique, namely purposive sampling. The instruments used in this study are adaptations and modifications of the Mental Health Continuum-Long Form (MHC-LF), Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) and Brief RCOPE instruments. The results showed that at 36.5%, there was a significant effect of mindfulness and religious coping together on the mental health of the elderly. In detail, the results of the minor hypothesis prove that there is a significant effect of three dimensions of mindfulness (observe, describe, and act with awareness) and one dimension of religious coping (positive religious coping) on the mental health of the elderly.

This study aimed to analyze the impact of social support and self-compassion on students' happiness during a pandemic. This study used a quantitative approach with multiple regression analysis. The sample was taken using the non-probability sampling method (purposive sampling), consisting of 213 students living in JABODETABEK. The scales used to measure the variables in this study are the Orientation to Happiness Scale, the Personal Support Evaluation List (ISEL), and the Indonesian version of the Self-Empathy Scale (SWD). Based on the results of this study, social support, and self-compassion influence happiness by 27.4%. In addition, based on the results of this study of seven variables, four significantly impact happiness, namely evaluation of support, concrete support, self-kindness, and common humanity. Abstract

This study addressed the need for a validated instrument to measure happiness among elderly individuals in Indonesia. The research aimed to examine the construct validity of a modified version of The Happiness Scale Interval Study (HSIS). Data were collected from 211 elderly individuals aged 60 years and above residing in Jakarta using a non-probability convenience sampling method. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with LISREL 8.70 software was employed to test the unidimensionality and construct validity of the scale. The initial model showed unsatisfactory fit, but after allowing for correlated errors among certain items, the model achieved a good fit with a final Chi-square value of 25.43, p-value = .22884, and RMSEA = .032. The results indicate that all items significantly measure a single factor of happiness, confirming the construct validity of the modified HSIS for elderly populations in Jakarta. This study provides evidence for the validity of this happiness scale as a tool for future research on happiness and well-being among the elderly population in Indonesia, informing the development of targeted interventions.
