Abstract

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain a significant reproductive health problem among adolescents, especially in rural areas with limited access to health information. Adequate knowledge about STIs is expected to shape positive attitudes toward prevention efforts. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes toward STI prevention among adolescents in Sumbersari Village, Kepahiang District. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 38 adolescents, selected using total sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that measured the level of knowledge and attitudes toward STI prevention. Data analysis was performed univariately to describe the frequency distribution and bivariately using the Chi Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05.The results showed that most respondents had good knowledge about STIs (50.0%) and positive attitudes toward STI prevention (63.2%). The Chi-Square test results showed a significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes toward STI prevention among adolescents (p-value = 0.013). Adolescents with better knowledge tended to have more positive attitudes toward STI prevention than adolescents with less knowledge. The conclusion of this study shows that knowledge plays an important role in shaping attitudes toward STI prevention among adolescents. Therefore, continuous and contextual efforts to improve adolescent reproductive health education are needed, especially in rural areas, to support effective STI prevention.

Abstract

Sexually transmitted infections (IMS) refer to diseases commonly spread through sexual activity. Fungi, viruses, and parasites are some of the microorganisms that can cause infections. Currently, adolescents are more susceptible to sexually transmitted infections. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, in 2022, there were 19,973 IMS cases in Indonesia, showing an increasing trend. One factor contributing to the increase in sexually transmitted infections among adolescents is a lack of knowledge about these diseases. To increase adolescents' knowledge, learning media that can illustrate physical concepts are needed. Audiovisual media is one such medium. This study aims to determine the effect of health education using audiovisual media on adolescents' knowledge about sexually transmitted infections in Seluma Regency. This research method is quantitative using a quasi-experimental approach (quasi-experiment) using a One Group Design Pretest-Posttest design. The sample in this study were 38 students of grade IX of SMPN 11, Seluma Regency. The sample selection method in this study used a purposive sampling method. The data collection technique used a questionnaire distributed to respondents before and after health education using audiovisual. The data obtained were then analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the difference in the average value before and after health education using video was 1.26 with a p value = 0.001 with a significance level of 0.05. So it can be concluded that health education using audiovisual media can influence adolescents' knowledge about sexually transmitted infections. Therefore, the use of audiovisual media in conducting health education for students is highly recommended in order to create changes in adolescents' attitudes about Sexually Transmitted Infections (IMS).

Abstract

The use of Long-Acting Contraceptive Methods (LACMs) is an important strategy in family planning programs due to their high effectiveness and low failure rates. However, the utilization of LACMs in the community remains relatively low, partly influenced by psychological factors such as self-efficacy. This study aims to determine the correlation between self-efficacy and the use of Long-Acting Contraceptive Methods among Couples of Reproductive Age in the working area of the Lubuk Pinang Health Center in 2025. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all Couples of Reproductive Age in the working area of the Lubuk Pinang Health Center, with a sample of 96 respondents selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a self-efficacy questionnaire and contraceptive use data, then analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had low self-efficacy, totaling 55 individuals (57.3%), and most used non-LACM methods, totaling 63 individuals (65.6%). Bivariate analysis indicated a significant correlation between self-efficacy and the use of LACMs (p-value = 0.000). Respondents with high self-efficacy were more likely to use LACMs compared to those with low self-efficacy. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and the use of Long-Acting Contraceptive Methods among Couples of Reproductive Age in the working area of the Lubuk Pinang Health Center in 2025. It is expected that healthcare providers can enhance the self-efficacy of Couples of Reproductive Age through education and counseling to increase the use of LACMs.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women remains a public health problem that can have adverse effects on both the mother and the fetus, especially in the second and third trimesters when iron requirements increase. Factors that play a role in the occurrence of anemia include the level of knowledge and dietary patterns of pregnant women. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge and dietary patterns and the occurrence of anemia in pregnant women in the second and third trimesters in the working area of Penarik Health Center in 2025. This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was all pregnant women in the second and third trimesters in the working area of Penarik Health Center, with a sample size of 45 respondents taken using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires to measure knowledge and dietary patterns, as well as hemoglobin level examination to determine the occurrence of anemia. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had sufficient knowledge (40.0%), good dietary patterns (57.8%), and did not experience anemia (53.3%). Bivariate analysis results showed a significant relationship between knowledge and the occurrence of anemia in pregnant women in the second and third trimesters (p < 0.000), and there was a significant relationship between dietary patterns and the occurrence of anemia (p = 0.008). The conclusion of this study is that there is a meaningful relationship between knowledge and dietary patterns and the occurrence of anemia in pregnant women in the second and third trimesters in the working area of Penarik Health Center. It is expected that health workers can increase health education and nutrition counseling for pregnant women as an effort to prevent anemia during pregnancy.

Abstract

Background: Globally, there are 149.2 million children under the age of 5 experiencing growth and developmental disorders (WHO, 2020). Important factors influencing infant growth and development include sleep quality and body weight. One safe and appropriate intervention for infants is baby massage (Fitriyanti, 2024). Baby massage is a gentle and rhythmic massage given to infants, starting with light touches and gradually increasing pressure according to the baby's age. This helps calm the nervous system and reduce stress hormone levels (Rahayu, 2020). Objective: To determine the effect of baby massage on sleep quality and weight gain in infants aged 3–24 months at PMB Ririn, Bengkulu City, in 2025. Method: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. Data were collected using questionnaires, observation sheets, and growth monitoring charts (KMS). The study sample consisted of 20 infants selected through purposive sampling. Results: Before the intervention, most respondents had poor sleep quality (7 infants or 35%) and fair sleep quality (7 infants or 35%). After the baby massage intervention, most infants showed improvement to good sleep quality (16 infants or 80%). The average body weight before the intervention was 8,140 grams, which increased to an average of 8,875 grams after the intervention—an average gain of 735 grams per month. Bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed that baby massage had a significant effect on improving both sleep quality and infant body weight, with a p-value of 0.000.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding remains a major public health concern because its coverage has not yet reached national and global targets, despite the relatively high level of maternal knowledge regarding breastfeeding. Husband’s involvement has been recognized as an important source of social support that may be associated with successful exclusive breastfeeding practice. This study aimed to examine the relationship between husband’s involvement and exclusive breastfeeding practice among mothers attending a community health center in Tangerang City. This study was a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data collected in 2024 from mothers attending a community health center in Tangerang City. The population consisted of 120 eligible mothers, and a minimum sample size of 93 participants was determined using the Slovin formula. Husband’s involvement was categorized as involved or less involved based on the support provided during the breastfeeding period. Exclusive breastfeeding practice was defined as providing only breast milk during the first six months of life. The association between both variables was assessed using the Chi-square test. The findings showed that 52.7% of mothers did not practice exclusive breastfeeding and 54.8% reported low husband’s involvement. Mothers whose husbands were involved were more likely to practice exclusive breastfeeding than those whose husbands were less involved.  Statistical analysis demonstrated that husband’s involvement was significantly associated with exclusive breastfeeding practice among mothers (p < 0.001; OR = 13.333; 95% CI: 4.933–36.035). These findings highlight the importance of family-centered breastfeeding promotion programs that actively engage husbands in supporting breastfeeding mothers and should be interpreted as an association rather than a causal relationship.
