Abstract

The research was carried out on Langgur Beach from January to March 2021. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation and dispersion of marine debris to molluscs in the Intertidal Zone of Langgur Beach, the edge of the Rosenberg Strait, Kei Islands, Indonesia. The data collection method of this research is the quadratic method. The results of the study noted that the total marine debris accumulated at 21 sampling points amounted to 7,596 items consisting of 14 categories of marine debris and 6 species of Mollusca were found. The results of the analysis show that the dispersion of surface marine debris and marine debris in the sediments are scattered in groups, the dispersion per type of macrozoobenthos on the surface and in the sediments is scattered in groups, regularly and randomly. The results of the analysis also showed a positive correlation between marine plastic debris on the sediment surface and the bivalves of Gafrarium pectinatum on the sediment surface.

Abstract

Inflammatory disease in gastric tract called Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), particularly colon, in general, results from the use of non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug, such as indomethacine. The use of natural material, such as mas ngur oyster (Atactodea striata) as traditional medicine has been long known by people in Kei Islands–Southeast Mallucas. This study is aimed at measuring the ability of active compounds of this oyster extract in reducing NF-κB and TNF-α expression and showing the histological image of indomethacine-induced rat ileum with IBD after treatment with mas ngur oyster extract. It used 8-12 week old male rats (Rattus norvegicus) of 150 - 200 g BW. The rats were divided into 3 groups, healthy group, sick group (induced with 15 mg/kg BW of indomethacine), and treatment group (orally induced with indomethacine at a dose of 15 mg/kg BW then treated with mas ngur oyster extract at the dose of 100, 400, 700 mg/kg BW). Indomethacine induction at the dose of 15 mg/kg BW and mas ngur oyster extract therapy were orally administered. NF-κB and TNF-α expressions were measured using immunohistochemicals, and the histological image used Hematoksilin-Eosin staining. Results showed that extract therapy gave significant effect (P<0.05) at the effective dose of 400 mg/kg BW that could reduce 86.421% of NF-κB expression and 60.972% of TNF-α expression in the rat ileum and result in tissue recovery of the IBD rat’s ileum after the therapy.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to develop the potential of green algae (Ulva lactuca) in the local waters of the Kei islands with the best formulation and effectiveness of sunscreen obtained from ethanol extract of green algae (Ulva lactuca). Experimental research methods with methanol extraction of seaweed, sunscreen formulation and organoleptic tests and sunscreen characterization include homogeneity, pH, spreadability, and viscosity of the results obtained by organoleptic tests based on the results obtained, namely the dosage form in the form of semi-solid with a brownish color and a distinctive odor. The results of the study are the color produced by the Ulva lactuca extract cream concentration used. The higher the concentration of the extract, the greener the color of the cream. The homogeneity test of the cream in the F1, F2, F3 treatment showed a homogeneous cream seen from the even distribution of the cream, the pH test of the three extract creams F1, F2, and F3 obtained the results of a safe pH value and very feasible to use. In accordance with the pH of the skin which is 4.5 - 6.5. The results of the spreadability test showed that the F2 cream preparation met the requirements of the spreadability of the cream, while F1 and F3 were smaller than the standard spreadability of good topical preparations. The viscosity test showed that the viscosity values of F1, F2 and F3 reached 22.5 - 51.9% cp. The quality standard for sunscreen cream preparations, the viscosity of a good preparation ranges from 2000 - 50,000 cP, so it can be said that the three creams meet good viscosity standards.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to empower mothers in Hoat Sorbay District, Southeast Maluku Regency, in preventing stunting in children through the production of additional food based on local food ingredients, namely sago flour (Metroxylon sp), sea grapes (Caulerpa sp.), and mackerel (Rastrelliger sp.). The methods used include interactive counseling and practical training in making additional food to prevent stunting with an educational and participatory approach. Participants are actively involved in direct practice in making nutritious additional food using easily obtained local ingredients. The main results of the activity showed a significant increase in the knowledge and skills of participating mothers about the importance of balanced nutrition and the use of local food as an effort to prevent stunting. Pre-test and post-test evaluations showed a decrease in the low knowledge category from 60% to 12%, and an increase in the high knowledge category from 20% to 40%. In addition, this activity encourages the use of economical local resources, strengthens social solidarity among mothers, and opens up opportunities for food diversification and small businesses based on local products. The positive impact of this activity is increasing public awareness of nutrition, independence in providing nutritious food, and contribution in reducing the risk of stunting in the target area. This activity is expected to be a model for developing a sustainable stunting prevention program and can be replicated in other areas with similar conditions.
