Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia in adults over 18 years of age poses a significant health risk. Reproductive-age women are susceptible to this condition owing to unhealthy dietary habits, notably consumption of fast food. This study aimed to investigate the potential of edamame and almonds to lower blood cholesterol levels. This study employed a pre-test post-test group design following a 6-week intervention. Twenty-eight participants were recruited through consecutive sampling conducted in Purwokerto between March and August of 2022. Statistical analyses were performed using independent and paired t-tests. Results indicated no significant difference in the effectiveness of edamame and almonds in reducing total cholesterol levels among reproductive-age women (p= 0,534). After consumption of 48,8 g/d edamame for 6 weeks, a substantial decrease in total cholesterol levels was observed (p= 0,004), with a mean reduction of 17,79 ± 19,11 mg/dL. Conversely, the intervention with 42,5 g/d of almonds for 6 weeks did not significantly change total cholesterol levels (p= 0,193), yielding a mean reduction of 11,57 ± 31,51 mg/dL. In conclusion, the consumption of edamame for six weeks is effective in lowering total cholesterol levels among women of reproductive age.

Abstract

Adolescence is the second period of growth and development after toddlerhood. Teenagers are faced with nutritional problems that prevent them from optimally reaching their potential. Prevention can be done by early detection of nutritional problems by peers through Youth Posyandu. This activity aims to increase knowledge and attitudes related to nutrition and skills in measuring nutritional status in prospective Youth Posyandu cadres in Karangsalam Kidul, Kedungbanteng, Banyumas using nutrition education methods and training in measuring nutritional status. Data analysis used the dependent t-test. The result is an increase in the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of prospective Youth Posyandu cadres. This education and training are expected to create Youth Posyandu cadres who care about adolescent nutrition.

Abstract

Goat milk have disadvantage of short shelf life and prengus smell. The short shelf life can be handled by pasteurization and the smell of prengus can be reduced by adding ingredients that contain antioxidants, one of which is purple sweet potato leaves. The aim of this study was to examine the organoleptic quality of pasteurized goat milk with the addition of purple sweet potato leaf extract. The experimental design used was a completely randomized design with four different concentrations of purple sweet potato leaf extract (0%, 2%, 4%, and 6%) with five replications. Variables observed were color, smell, langu (unpleasant) taste, prengus taste, texture, and preferences. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) at the 5% level. Significantly different data were further tested using Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results showed that the addition of purple sweet potato leaf extract at a concentration of 2-6% had an effect (P<0.05) on color, smell, langu (unpleasant) taste, texture, and preferences but had no effect on the prengus taste. The most purplish color is obtained at a concentration of 6%. The least prengus smell is obtained at a concentration of 4%. The lowest langu (unpleasant) taste, the most characteristic texture of milk, and the highest preference is obtained at a concentration of 0%.

Abstract

Abstract

People with Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus have many complaints of nocturia (waking up to urinate at night). Nocturia increases mortality associated with the risk of falling. This study to determine factors associated with nocturia in people with type 2 diabetes. The type of research is an online observational survey with a cross-sectional design. Data characteristics respondents and nocturia were obtained via google forms. Intakes of caffeine, fluids, and fruit, with a questionnaire recall 1x24 h and a diet high in saturated fat, high protein, and vegetables with a Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ) by telephone interview. Consecutive sampling obtained 71 respondents. Statistical test with chi-square and logistic regression. 36.6% respondents with type-2 diabetes had complaints of nocturia. The majority were <60 years old (83.1%), female (60.56%), and had type-2 diabetes <10 years (70.4%). Patients with high caffeine intake (25.35%), high fluid intake (45.07%), and high fruit intake (30.99%). Dietary pattern with high protein (43.66%), high saturated fat (39.44%), and low vegetable (67.61%). Variable age, caffeine intake, and fluid intake had Odds Ratio 3.1, 2.8, and 2.1 respectively. There is no relationship between the variables studied and nocturia. Factors that tend a risk for nocturia are age, caffeine intake, and fluid intake.
