Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Role play toward the improvement of students speaking skills majoring in Business Administration at Manado State Polytechnic. This research employed a quasi-experimental namely non-equivalent control group design with pre-test and post-test. There were two variables in this research; the independent variable (role play) and the dependent variable (students’ speaking skills). The population of this research was first-semester students majoring in Business Administration which consist of 55 students. The sample of this research consisted of 40 students taken by using a purposive sampling technique, 20 students from 1AB1 as the experimental class and 20 students from 1AB2 as the control class. Pre-test and post-test were used as the instrument in this research. The data explained that there was a significant difference between the students’ post-test in the experimental class and post-test in the control class. The mean score of the post-test (77) in the experimental class was higher than the mean score on the post-test (65) in the control class. The standard deviation on the post-test is (10,43) in the experimental class and the standard deviation of the post-test in the control class is (11,12). Based on the finding and discussion of the research, the researcher concluded that role play was effective to improve students’ speaking skills.

Abstract

Pelatihan dan simulasi TOEFL merupakan salah satu strategi yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa di UKM Bahasa Politeknik Negeri Manado. Program ini dirancang untuk memberikan pengalaman belajar yang komprehensif dan mendalam, dengan fokus pada keterampilan utama yang diujikan dalam TOEFL: Listening, Structure and written expression, dan reading. Melalui pelatihan dan simulasi tes TOEFL, mahasiswa dapat mengidentifikasi kelemahan mereka dan bekerja untuk memperbaikinya. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas pelatihan dan simulasi TOEFL di UKM Bahasa Politeknik Negeri Manado, serta mengidentifikasi skill yang masih perlu ditingkatkan oleh mahasiswa. Metode yang digunakan pada program ini yaitu metode ceramah dan interaktif dengan peserta. UKM Bahasa merupakan Mitra pada pengabdian ini yang terdiri dari 15 orang perwakilan dari berbagai tingkatan semester dan jurusan. Pengabdian ini menunjukkan antusias dan ketertarikan mahasiswa untuk belajar lebih mengenai TOEFL, ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan yang berguna bagi peningkatan kemampuan Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa khususnya di UKM Bahasa

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find Business Management students perceptions regarding the use of Quillbot as a writing tool for English writing skill improvement This research employs a qualitative case study approach. The research instruments were questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire closed-ended questions utilizing a four-point Likert scale (ranging from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree) shared via Google Forms. Additionally, semi-structured interview questions were formulated based on the questionnaire responses. The data obtained from the closed-ended questionnaire questions are quantitatively was analysed through frequency calculations. The total of the population are 40 business management students. The results indicate that AI has the capacity to enhance writing skills by aiding in idea generation, improving critical thinking, preventing plagiarism, and elevating academic writing quality. Consequently, integrating AI into higher education can effectively enhance the quality of writing education, aligning with the digital era's advancements and optimizing the learning process for effectiveness and efficiency.

Abstract

Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) adalah pendekatan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang memanfaatkan teknologi mobile seperti smarthphone dan tablet. Kemampuan Bahasa Inggris (English Skill) yaitu speaking, listening, reading dan writing dapat dilatih dengan pendekatan tersebut, yaitu melalui berbagai aplikasi MALL yang tersedia dan dapat diamanfaatkan secara gratis. Namun, masih banyak mahasiswa yang kurang memiliki pengetahuan  tentang banyakmya aplikasi yang tersedia dan cara penggunaan aplikasi-aplikasi tersebut dalam meningkatkan skill Bahasa Inggris. Sehingga kegiatan ini perlu dilaksanakan agar mahasiswa dapat memanfaatkan MALL secara maksimal. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan   dengan metode workshop yang diikuti oleh 20 orang peserta mahasiswa Prodi Manajemen Bisnis Jurusan Administrasi Bisnis Politeknik Negeri Manado. Hasil dari kegiatan ini yaitu memberikan dampak positif kepada peserta yaitu menambah wawasan dan pengetahuan tentang pemanfaatan aplikasi berbasis MALL yang ada. Peserta tidak hanya mendapat pengetahuan teori namun melakukan praktik langsung dengan pendampingan oleh tim pengabdian. Dengan demikian, pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris tidak hanya terpaku selama di kelas, namun dapat juga dilakukan secara mandiri dan fleksibel dimanapun dan kapanpun.Kata Kunci: Pelatihan, Bahasa Inggris, MALL

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out whether the use of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) was effective in improving the English Language of Students majoring in Business Administration and to analyse the factors that influence the effectiveness of English as a medium Instruction (EMI) in improving the English Language Skills of Students majoring in Business Administration. This study employed qualitative research which the data was collected using observation and interviews. The collected data was interpreted qualitatively. This study employs purposive sampling. Class II MB 6 and IV MB 6 were the population and IV MB 6 was the sample with 30 students. The finding showed that implementing EMI can improve some aspects of English language skills, namely speaking and listening. On the other hand, some difficulties in understanding the topic delivered occurred. The factors that influence the effectiveness of English as a medium of Instruction (EMI) in improving English Language Skills are the Frequency of using English, the Frequency of listening to English speakers, and the interaction of the students with their classmates where they need to speak English during the classroom activity.

Abstract

This study explores the optimization of speaking abilities among Business Management students through the implementation of English as a Medium Instruction (EMI). With the increasing global demand for effective communication skills in the business environment, enhancing students' speaking proficiency is important. This study employed qualitative research in which the data was collected using an observation checklist for Business Management students, especially in the class of IV MB 6. Results indicate that EMI not only improves students' confidence in speaking but also enhances their fluency and overall communicative competence. Furthermore, the study highlights the importance of interactive teaching strategies and real-world applications in fostering an engaging learning environment. Students are encouraged to speak English in groups or respond the other speaker as they move through the material. Students practice language skills in context through discussions and projects, which improves their comprehension of the material and their ability to communicate ideas in English. The findings suggest that EMI can be an effective pedagogical tool in developing essential speaking skills for future business leaders.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe the optimization of UMKM production management in Indonesia using SWOT analysis as an alternative in developing UMKM. The type of qualitative research with a literature study approach, using lean manufacturing as a supporting theory. Data collection techniques with documentation studies. Data processing techniques with reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity techniques through source triangulation. The results of the study indicate that production management has an important role in UMKM. Optimization of production management can be done by implementing management functions, including planning, organizing, supervising, and controlling functions. In addition, an important role in production management is in the management of raw material inventory which must have planning, including cost planning, raw material procurement schedules, and raw material distribution. Then, for the development of UMKM in Indonesia, it is done by creating a business strategy through the application of SWOT analysis, so that business actors can easily identify threats and business opportunities from outside, so that there is an opportunity to think about solutions and overcome them, not only that business actors can take advantage of opportunities and increase business strength through SWOT analysis.

Abstract

The use of digital media in English language learning represents a strategic approach to preparing students for the demands of the professional world, where technology and digital communication are highly prioritized. The integration of digital media enables students to access authentic English learning materials, thereby enhancing their linguistic competence in ways that align with workplace requirements. The urgency of this study lies in the necessity to understand the effectiveness and patterns of digital media utilization in supporting the achievement of English language competencies relevant to the needs of business and industry. The research explored the way digital media applied in English language learning at the Department of Business Administration. It focuses on the types of digital media used, the challenges faced, and the impact on students' English skills. The study employs a qualitative method, incorporating classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with students and lecturers. Purposive sampling was applied. The population includes all students and lecturers in the department. The sample consists of second-semester students from Business Administration (II AB1 and II AB2), Business Management (II MB1–MB5) and seven English lecturers. These research results are expected to give insights for evaluation and decision-making. They will help the Department of Business Administration work towards its goal of developing internationally competitive management professionals.
