Abstract

The study aims to investigate the effectiveness of MALL application using in the classroom. One of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) application used is Quizlet. The study employs a Classroom Action Research approach to assess the impact of Quizlet on third semester of Business Management students' vocabulary mastery. The data collection techniques in this research are observation and test. The result of this research show that MALL/ Quizlet contribute to a substantial improvement in vocabulary test scores and leading students to enhance their vocabulary proficiency. The use of technology-based tools like Quizlet not only facilitated self learning but also improved pronunciation and contextual usage of words. The accessibility of devices like stability of internet connections, students self motivation, and effective supervision emerged as critical element impacting the efficiency of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL), particularly the utilization of Quizlet for enhancing vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find Business Management students perceptions regarding the use of Quillbot as a writing tool for English writing skill improvement This research employs a qualitative case study approach. The research instruments were questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire closed-ended questions utilizing a four-point Likert scale (ranging from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree) shared via Google Forms. Additionally, semi-structured interview questions were formulated based on the questionnaire responses. The data obtained from the closed-ended questionnaire questions are quantitatively was analysed through frequency calculations. The total of the population are 40 business management students. The results indicate that AI has the capacity to enhance writing skills by aiding in idea generation, improving critical thinking, preventing plagiarism, and elevating academic writing quality. Consequently, integrating AI into higher education can effectively enhance the quality of writing education, aligning with the digital era's advancements and optimizing the learning process for effectiveness and efficiency.

Abstract

Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) adalah pendekatan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang memanfaatkan teknologi mobile seperti smarthphone dan tablet. Kemampuan Bahasa Inggris (English Skill) yaitu speaking, listening, reading dan writing dapat dilatih dengan pendekatan tersebut, yaitu melalui berbagai aplikasi MALL yang tersedia dan dapat diamanfaatkan secara gratis. Namun, masih banyak mahasiswa yang kurang memiliki pengetahuan  tentang banyakmya aplikasi yang tersedia dan cara penggunaan aplikasi-aplikasi tersebut dalam meningkatkan skill Bahasa Inggris. Sehingga kegiatan ini perlu dilaksanakan agar mahasiswa dapat memanfaatkan MALL secara maksimal. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan   dengan metode workshop yang diikuti oleh 20 orang peserta mahasiswa Prodi Manajemen Bisnis Jurusan Administrasi Bisnis Politeknik Negeri Manado. Hasil dari kegiatan ini yaitu memberikan dampak positif kepada peserta yaitu menambah wawasan dan pengetahuan tentang pemanfaatan aplikasi berbasis MALL yang ada. Peserta tidak hanya mendapat pengetahuan teori namun melakukan praktik langsung dengan pendampingan oleh tim pengabdian. Dengan demikian, pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris tidak hanya terpaku selama di kelas, namun dapat juga dilakukan secara mandiri dan fleksibel dimanapun dan kapanpun.Kata Kunci: Pelatihan, Bahasa Inggris, MALL

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of using the English translation of the Quran as an educational medium to enhance vocabulary acquisition among tenth-grade students at Babul Khaer Islamic Boarding School, Bulukumba. By applying a pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test assessments, the study aims to explore vocabulary gains facilitated through the contextual guesswork technique. This approach not only aids students in understanding word meanings by referencing both Indonesian and English translations but also supports character education by incorporating moral values in language learning. Results reveal significant improvement, with the average vocabulary score increasing from 49.64 in the pre-test to 70.16 in the post-test. Statistical analysis supports these findings, with a t-test result of 13.31 exceeding the t-table value of 2.074, confirming the alternative hypothesis that Quranic English translation can significantly improve vocabulary. The study suggests that the Quran’s English translation serves as an effective medium for vocabulary acquisition and offers valuable insights for enhancing vocabulary improvement in EFL contexts. These findings contribute to the educational media approach in Islamic boarding school settings and provide a foundation for future research in similar environments

Abstract

The use of digital media in English language learning represents a strategic approach to preparing students for the demands of the professional world, where technology and digital communication are highly prioritized. The integration of digital media enables students to access authentic English learning materials, thereby enhancing their linguistic competence in ways that align with workplace requirements. The urgency of this study lies in the necessity to understand the effectiveness and patterns of digital media utilization in supporting the achievement of English language competencies relevant to the needs of business and industry. The research explored the way digital media applied in English language learning at the Department of Business Administration. It focuses on the types of digital media used, the challenges faced, and the impact on students' English skills. The study employs a qualitative method, incorporating classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with students and lecturers. Purposive sampling was applied. The population includes all students and lecturers in the department. The sample consists of second-semester students from Business Administration (II AB1 and II AB2), Business Management (II MB1–MB5) and seven English lecturers. These research results are expected to give insights for evaluation and decision-making. They will help the Department of Business Administration work towards its goal of developing internationally competitive management professionals.

Abstract

Pelaku usaha UMKM mengalami kenaikan sejak tahun 2021 di Manado Beberapa faktor yang mendorong perkembangan UMKM di Manado antara lain adalah pertumbuhan penduduk, berakhirnya masa pandemi covid 19, meningkatnya kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya kewirausahaan, serta dukungan dari pemerintah dan organisasi non-pemerintah. Meskipun perkembangan UMKM di Manado cukup positif, masih terdapat beberapa kendala yang dihadapi seperti kurangnya modal usaha, kurangnya pemahaman akan pencatatan laporan keuangan yang berdampak pada kinerja usaha. Kendala tersebut karena manajemen keuangan UMKM belum tertata rapi dan masih sederhana. Melalui survei awal terhadap UMKM Sewa Tenda Paniki yang ada di kota Manado, ditemukan bahwa tempat usaha tersebut belum melakukan penyusunan laporan keuangan sesuai SAK EMKM. Pemilik usaha juga belum mengenal aplikasi akuntansi yang ada saat ini. Aplikasi Akuntansi yang digunakan adalah aplikasi Akuntansi UKM – Money Manager Setelah kegiatan ini Mitra merasa puas dan senang bahwa dengan dilaksanakannya kegiatan pengabdian ini mereka dapat diedukasi tentang SAK EMKM dan penyusunan laporan keuangan dengan penggunaan aplikasi akuntansi untuk memperbaiki kinerja pengelolaan keuangan mereka.

Abstract

This study investigates the realization of adaptive politeness and hierarchical negotiation in the speech of Bugis and Konjo speakers in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. While politeness in Indonesian regional languages has often been described through hierarchical norms, this study demonstrates that politeness is better understood as an adaptive and relational process. Using a qualitative descriptive design with a sociopragmatic approach, natural conversations were collected from Bone and Bulukumba in 2023 through observation, recording, and semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using Culpeper (2021) pragmatic framework and Locher & Larina (2019) relational pragmatics model to identify linguistic markers of respect, empathy, and social harmony. The findings reveal that Bugis speakers maintain structured hierarchy through indirect and respectful forms that reflect the moral principle of siri’ na pacce, while Konjo speakers demonstrate greater flexibility through humor, familiarity, and contextual adaptation. Both groups exhibit adaptive politeness, balancing hierarchical awareness with social solidarity in everyday communication. These findings indicate that politeness in South Sulawesi is not a fixed linguistic system but a dynamic moral and pragmatic practice. The study contributes to the broader understanding of Southeast Asian pragmatics by showing how moral values and cultural identities are linguistically enacted in multilingual societies.
