Abstract

Eating habits plays an important role not only in physical health but also in psychological well-being, which in turn can influence students’ learning motivation. However, studies that examine the relationship among these three variables simultaneously are still limited. This study aims to analyze the relationship between diet, psychological well-being, and learning motivation, as well as to test the mediating role of psychological well-being. The research used a quantitative approach with a survey design. The respondents were 227 students of SMAN 13 in Samarinda, selected using purposive sampling. The instruments included a diet questionnaire, the Indonesian adolescent psychological well-being scale, and the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS). Data analysis was carried out using Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) and mediation testing through bootstrapping with the PROCESS Hayes model. The results show that diet does not have a direct effect on learning motivation (p = 0.58), but it has a significant effect on psychological well-being (p < 0.001). Psychological well-being has a significant effect on learning motivation (p < 0.001) and fully mediates the relationship between diet and learning motivation (indirect effect = 0,0945; CI [0.025–0.0976]). These findings indicate that a healthy diet contributes to learning motivation through the improvement of psychological well-being. In conclusion, psychological well-being is a key factor that bridges the relationship between diet and learning motivation. This study recommends integrating healthy diet programs with psychological well being enhancement strategies in schools to support students’ academic achievement.

Abstract

Abstract

Students residing in Islamic boarding schools are required to adapt to a new environment characterized by distinct rules, activities, and social interactions. This study aimed to examine differences in personal adjustment based on grade level among female students at the Al-Arsyadi Samboja Islamic Boarding School. A total of 99 female students were selected as the sample using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected using the Personal Adjustment Scale for Students (PASS), based on Schneiders' (1955) theory. Data analysis involved One-Way ANOVA and Post Hoc Tukey tests using SPSS version 26.0. The results revealed a significant difference in personal adjustment based on grade level among the female students (F = 730.363; p = 0.000). Post Hoc Tukey test results indicated significant differences across all grade groups, with mean personal adjustment scores of 56.93 for the Early Tsanawi class, 71.93 for the Tsani Tsanawi class, and 87.74 for the Tsalis Tsanawi class. These findings suggest that the higher the student's grade level, the better their personal adjustment ability. This difference is likely linked to the students' experience and the duration of their stay in the boarding school environment; students at higher levels tend to be more accustomed to the rules, activities, and social demands of the pesantren setting. The study implies that the boarding school administration needs to provide more intensive attention and support to students at the entry level to ensure an optimal personal adjustment process.

Abstract

Overseas students face various challenges in adapting to academic and social life in higher education. One of the factors that is assumed to facilitate the adjustment process is social support. This study aimed to examine the effect of social support on the adjustment of overseas students at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Samarinda. This study employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The population consisted of 518 overseas students from the 2025–2026 academic year. Based on the Slovin formula calculation, a sample of 226 respondents was obtained and selected using the disproportionate stratified random sampling technique.. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) developed by Zimet et al. (1988) and the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire (SACQ) developed by Baker and Siryk (1984). Data were analyzed using simple linear regression with SPSS version 26. The findings revealed that social support had a significant effect on the adjustment of overseas students at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Samarinda. Students who perceived higher levels of social support tended to demonstrate better adjustment to academic, social, and personal aspects of university life. Support received from family, friends, and significant others helped students cope with various challenges encountered during their study away from home. In conclusion, social support plays an important role in enhancing the adjustment of overseas students. Therefore, support from family, peers, and the university environment should be strengthened to help students adapt successfully to campus life.
