Abstract

Disabled group "Argodadi Pinilih" has 40 active members. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused some members to lose their jobs. Members of the disabled group began to try to cultivate oyster mushrooms in their homes and they also carried out their own maintenance. Some “baglog” cannot grow mushrooms because the environment where the mushrooms grow does not meet the requirements. The problems faced by the disabled group "Argodadi Pinilih" are low quantity and quality of oyster mushrooms, limited skills in making processed food from mushrooms and mushroom marketing is still limited. The objectives of this community empowerment activity are (a) increasing the quantity and quality of mushroom production (b) improving skills in the manufacture of processed food made from mushrooms, (c) expanding the mushroom market share. The methods used in the implementation of empowerment activities are (a) counseling on oyster mushroom cultivation and marketing strategies (b) training on processing food from oyster mushrooms, (c) facilitation house of mushroom and baglog. The results of the empowerment show that the training, mentoring and facilitation of mushroom house and “baglog” can increase the quantity and quality of oyster mushroom production, improve the skills in making processed food from mushrooms and expand the market share of oyster mushrooms. The knowledge and skills of the disabled group members about mushroom farming and processing increased as evidenced by the pre-test score of 79.23 and post-test of 86.00 with an increase 8.54%.

Abstract

Abstrak Sangkhom Islam Wittaya School salah satu sekolah di Thailand yang memiliki lahan cukup luas. Lahan ditanami berbagai jenis tanaman hias sehingga lingkungan asri dan nyaman. Namun demikian ada beberapa area sekolah yang tampak kosong dan belum dimanfaatkan sebagai ruang terbuka hijau (RTH) sehingga terasa panas. RTH dapat dibangun dengan vertical garden yang akan memberikan keindahan secara visual dan manfaat ekologis. Kenyamanan lingkungan sekolah akan meningkatkan motivasi dan kosentrasi belajar siswa. Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat adalah 1) memberikan pengetahuan tentang optimalisasi lahan sekolah, 2) memberikan pengetahuan tentang vertical garden sebagai solusi untuk meningkatkan kenyamanan sekolah. Peserta adalah siswa tingkat Menengah Atas dengan jumlah 40 orang. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan adalah penyuluhan dilanjutkan dengan diskusi dan evaluasi. Hasil pengabdian masyarakat menunjukkan antusias peserta cukup tinggi, peserta memahami dampak posistif vertical garden, namun tidak semua peserta menyatakan kesediaan mempraktekkan vertical garden di rumah atau di sekolah. Hal ini karena kekhawatiran terkait biaya, perawatan intensif, dan pemasangan instalasi yang rumit. Perlu kerjasama antara direktur, guru dan sisiwa jika akan membangun vertical garden di Sangkhom Islam Wittaya School. Kata kunci: vertikal garden; optimalisasi lahan Abstract Sangkhom Islam Wittaya School is one of the schools in Thailand which has quite a large area of land. The land is planted with various types of ornamental plants so that the environment is beautiful and comfortable. However, there are several school areas that look empty and have not been used as green open space (RTH) so they feel hot. RTH can be built with a vertical garden which will provide visual beauty and ecological benefits. The comfort of the school environment will increase student motivation and concentration in learning. The aim of community service is 1) to provide knowledge about optimizing school land, 2) to provide knowledge about vertical gardens as a solution to improve school comfort. Participants were 40 Upper Intermediate level students. The method of implementing activities is counseling followed by discussion and evaluation. The results of community service showed that participants' enthusiasm was quite high, participants understood the positive impact of vertical gardens, but not all participants expressed a willingness to practice vertical gardens at home or at school. This is due to concerns regarding cost, intensive maintenance and complicated installation. Cooperation between directors, teachers and students is needed if you want to build a vertical garden at Sangkhom Islam Wittaya School Keywords: vertical garden; land optimization
