Abstract

Depression in adolescents can arise due to several things such as academic pressure, bullying, family factors and economic problems. Data in Indonesia shows that suicide cases can reach 10,000 or the equivalent of every day for one hour there is a suicide case. According to a suciodologist 4.2% of adolescents in Indonesia have thought about suicide. Among students 6.9% had suicidal intentions while another 3% were actually involved in suicide attempts. Health promotion aims to improve the ability of the community through learning from by and for the community in accordance with local socio-cultural conditions and supported by health-oriented public policies. The purpose of community service activities is that students are expected to be able to apply the concept of health education in real terms related to adolescent mental health at Husada Pratama Health SMKS in Serang City, so that they can contribute to improving public health status, especially for adolescents. The results of community service activities can be concluded that there is still a lack of knowledge about mental health in students which makes students not understand the importance and impact that will occur if they do not maintain mental health.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children due to chronic malnutrition from the age of 0–59 months, which is marked by a nutritional status index (PB/U) or (TB/U) with a Z-Score of less than -2 SD, which results in a child's height not being according to his age. The working area of the Kilasah Health Center has been the LOKUS (Focus Location) of stunting until now because it still contributes to a fairly high number of cases. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of stunting in children aged 0–59 months in the work area of the Kilasah Health Center, Serang City, in 2023. The method used is an observational study with a case-control approach. The instruments used were questionnaires and observation sheets. The research sample consisted of two groups, namely the case group of 44 respondents and the control group of 44 respondents, which were taken by the purposive sampling technique. The results of the univariate test in the stunting toddler group showed that the mothers had poor knowledge of 84.1%, 88.6% did not exclusively breastfeed, 36.4% did not have healthy latrines, and 93.2% did not have clean water facilities that met the requirements. Bivariate analysis using Chi Square obtained the results that mother's knowledge (Pv = 0.000), exclusive breastfeeding (Pv = 0.000), healthy latrines (PV = 0.000), and clean water facilities (Pv = 0.0013) have a significant relationship with the incidence of stunting in children aged 0-59 months. The suggestion from this research is that it is necessary to increase counseling with booklets/flip sheet regarding stunting and the importance of nutritious food for toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Waste sorting has not been widely understood or implemented among elementary school students, resulting in poor waste management in the school environment. However, evidence comparing the effectiveness of video-based versus leaflet-based health education interventions in elementary school settings remains limited. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of health education on waste sorting on students' knowledge and behavior in State Elementary Schools. Methods: This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental two-group pretest–posttest design with no control group, following the TREND reporting guidelines. The sample comprised 60 grade V students (30 from SDN Panggung Rawi and 30 from SDN Sukmajaya 1), selected through a total sampling method. Inclusion criteria were active enrollment as grade V students, ability to read and write, and provision of parental consent, while absent students were excluded at the time of data collection. SDN stands for Sekolah Dasar Negeri, which means State Elementary School (public primary school) in Indonesia. Data were collected using a 16-item, expert-validated questionnaire and tested for reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.82 for knowledge and 0.79 for behavior). Univariate analysis used median values, while bivariate analysis applied paired t-tests/Wilcoxon signed-rank tests and independent t-tests/Mann–Whitney U tests, with effect sizes reported as Cohen’s d. Results: At α = 0.05, there was a significant difference in knowledge between the video and leaflet groups (p = 0.012; Cohen’s d = 0.54, medium effect). Similarly, there was a significant difference in behavior change between the video and leaflet groups (p = 0.001; Cohen’s d = 0.71, large effect). No participants dropped out, and complete data were obtained from all respondents.. Conclusion: Health education through videos was more effective than leaflets in improving elementary school students' knowledge and behavior regarding waste sorting. Waste sorting interventions can be effectively integrated into school-based waste management programs.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in peri-urban and high-burden areas. Inadequate infant feeding practices and incomplete immunization are recognized as modifiable determinants of chronic undernutrition, yet local evidence examining their association with stunting is limited. This study examined the association between basic immunization status and exclusive breastfeeding with stunting among toddlers in Cilowong Subdistrict, Serang Regency, Indonesia. A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted among 100 toddlers aged 6–59 months selected through simple random sampling from the local Posyandu registry. Data were collected between February 2025 using structured interviews with mothers or primary caregivers and standardized anthropometric measurements. Stunting was defined as height-for-age Z-score (HAZ) < −2 SD based on WHO Child Growth Standards. Immunization status was verified using the child’s KMS and health center records, while exclusive breastfeeding was assessed through maternal report. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests to calculate prevalence ratios (PR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). The prevalence of stunting was 66.0%. Incomplete basic immunization was found in 63.0% of children, and only 15.0% had received exclusive breastfeeding. Incomplete immunization was significantly associated with stunting (PR = 5.05; 95% CI: 2.07–12.32; p = 0.001), as was non-exclusive breastfeeding (PR = 11.46; 95% CI: 2.95–44.41; p < 0.001). Incomplete immunization and lack of exclusive breastfeeding are strongly associated with stunting, underscoring the need for integrated community-based interventions through primary health care services.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period in individual development marked by various physical, emotional, and social changes. Mental health at this age is very important because it can affect development and quality of life in adulthood. This research aims to identify and analyze factors influencing adolescent mental health through a literature review. The method used in this literature review is literature analysis from several international databases such as Scopus, Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The results of the literature review show that adolescent mental health is influenced by various factors, including individual, family, school environment, and social factors. Individual factors include genetics, personality, and traumatic experiences. Family factors include family dynamics, parental support, and economic conditions. School environmental factors include academic pressure, peer relationships, and teacher support. Meanwhile, social factors include social media, community environment, and access to mental health services. This literature review found that the interaction between these factors plays an important role in shaping adolescent mental health. Strong social support, a stable family environment, and access to adequate mental health services can contribute positively to adolescent mental health. Conversely, high academic pressure, experiences of bullying, and lack of social support may be significant risk factors.

Abstract

Bullying is a common issue in school environments and can have severe negative impacts on students' mental, social, and academic well-being. This study examined the Relationship between Knowledge and Attitude with the Dangers of Bullying in High School Students. A quantitative cross-sectional approach was used, involving 60 eleventh-grade students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires distributed before and after the health education intervention and analyzed using univariate and bivariate tests. The univariate results showed that most respondents had high levels of bullying behavior (71.7%), low knowledge (68.3%), and negative attitudes (51.7%). After the intervention, improvements were observed in both knowledge and attitudes. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between knowledge and bullying (p = 0.017) and between attitude and bullying (p = 0.033). Health education proved effective as a promotive and preventive strategy for fostering positive behavior and empathy among adolescents. Therefore, schools should integrate health education into student development programs to create a safe and violence-free learning environment. This study contributes to bullying prevention through a structured, evidence-based educational approach.

Abstract

Mental disorders are becoming increasingly prevalent across all age groups, particularly among adolescents. Given that adolescence is a transitional phase between childhood and adulthood, this activity was implemented due to the low level of understanding among adolescents regarding mental health issues and the persistent stigma associated with psychological problems. This community service activity aims to improve students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to mental health through audiovisual media-based health promotion. The implementation method includes preparation, intervention, and evaluation. The intervention involved screening educational videos on mental health topics, followed by interactive discussions and group reflections. Evaluation was conducted by comparing pre-test and post-test results. The results showed a significant improvement in students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors after the intervention. Students became more open and understood the importance of maintaining mental health, and were more willing to seek help if experiencing psychological distress. This activity received a positive response from both the school and students. Audiovisual media has proven effective as an educational tool for adolescents. Going forward, it is hoped that this program can be continued and incorporated into ongoing character development for students at school.
