Abstract

This study aimed to identify the relationship between family support and body image disturbance among breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang. Breast cancer and its treatment, particularly chemotherapy, often cause physical changes such as hair loss, weight fluctuations, and mastectomy, which can significantly affect patients’ body image perception. Family support is assumed to play a crucial role in helping patients adapt to these changes. This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 110 breast cancer patients were recruited using consecutive sampling. The research instruments consisted of a family support questionnaire comprising 20 items and a body image questionnaire with 10 items. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rank correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that most respondents (60%) received good family support, while 55% experienced negative body image. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between family support and body image disturbance (p = 0.004) with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.275, indicating a weak but significant correlation. These findings suggest that family support plays an important role in maintaining a positive body image among breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Therefore, nursing interventions should actively involve family members to provide both emotional and practical support, which may help patients cope with the psychological impact of treatment and improve their overall well-being.

Abstract

Anxiety is an emotional condition that causes feelings of discomfort, helplessness, and uncertainty, often without a clear reason. Among breast cancer (carcinoma mammae) patients, anxiety commonly arises due to treatment processes, physical changes, and uncertainty regarding recovery. Spirituality, which involves belief in God Almighty and connection with transcendental aspects, is believed to help individuals cope with uncertain and challenging situations, including serious illness. This study aimed to determine the relationship between spiritual level and anxiety level among breast cancer patients in Semarang. The research used a quantitative correlational design with a sample of 110 respondents selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. The instruments employed were the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-42) to assess anxiety levels and the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) to measure spirituality. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to examine the relationship between variables. The results showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between spirituality level and anxiety level in breast cancer patients. The findings suggest that higher levels of spirituality are associated with lower anxiety levels. Therefore, interventions that support and strengthen spiritual aspects may be effective in reducing anxiety among breast cancer patients. This study recommends that healthcare professionals incorporate spiritual approaches as part of holistic care to improve psychological well-being in patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Abstract

Surgical procedures, including laparoscopic surgery, may cause preoperative anxiety arising from fear of the surgery process, uncertain outcomes, and postoperative pain. This anxiety can affect anesthesia and recovery aspects. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Murottal recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman on anxiety in preoperative laparoscopy patients. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. A total of 40 respondents were recruited using total sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test for within-group differences and the Mann-Whitney test for between-group differences. The majority of respondents in both intervention and control groups were late elderly, employed, male, and had no history of illness. Before therapy, anxiety levels in both groups were predominantly moderate. After therapy, most respondents in the intervention group experienced mild anxiety, whereas in the control group most remained in the moderate category. Statistical analysis showed a significant effect of Murottal recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman on reducing anxiety, both in the intervention group (Z = -5,477; p = 0.000) and the control group (Z = -2.000; p = 0.046). Overall, Murottal recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman was proven to be significantly effective in reducing respondents’ anxiety levels (Z = -4,534; p = 0.000). It is recommended that families play an active role in supporting anxiety reduction in patients undergoing surgery, for example, by suggesting or facilitating the patients to listen to Murottal recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman.

Abstract

Anxiety is an emotional response that is commonly experienced by patients before surgery, including in pre sectio caesarean patients. High levels of anxiety can affect the patient's physiological and psychological condition, so appropriate handling efforts are needed. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as prayer dhikr therapy, can be used as an alternative to help reduce anxiety because it provides relaxation, calmness, and increased spirituality. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of dhikr sholawat therapy on anxiety levels in pre sectio caesarean patients. The research design used a quasi-experiment with a pre-test and post-test control group approach. The research sample consisted of pre-sectio caesarea patients who met the inclusion criteria, then divided into two groups, namely the intervention group that was given prayer dhikr therapy and the control group that only received standard treatment. The instrument used to measure anxiety levels is the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Data analysis was carried out by statistical tests according to the distribution of data to find out the difference in results between the two groups. The results showed a significant decrease in anxiety levels in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). These findings prove that prayer dhikr therapy is effective in reducing anxiety in pre-sectio caesarean patients. Thus, this therapy can be recommended as one of the non-pharmacological nursing interventions that support the improvement of service quality and patient comfort.

Abstract

Patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) frequently experience physiological disturbances that significantly affect their sleep quality. These disturbances are triggered by various factors, including repeated medical procedures, environmental noise, discomfort from medical devices, intensive interactions with healthcare workers, inappropriate lighting that disrupts circadian rhythms, pain, and the underlying disease process. Sleep disturbances in ICU patients may slow down the healing process, elevate blood pressure, trigger metabolic disorders, and increase the risk of serious complications such as stroke. This study aims to examine the relationship between anxiety levels and sleep quality among compos mentis patients in the ICU of Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital, Semarang. The research employed a correlational design with a cross-sectional method. A total of 30 respondents were included based on specific criteria. Anxiety levels were measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), while sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between the two variables. The findings showed that the distribution of male and female respondents was balanced (15 respondents each). The most common medical diagnosis was post-laparotomy (10 respondents), with the dominant age category being late elderly (10 respondents). Anxiety levels were predominantly in the moderate category (18 respondents), while the majority of respondents demonstrated poor sleep quality (17 respondents). Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant relationship between anxiety levels and sleep quality. In conclusion, the study highlights that higher levels of anxiety are associated with poorer sleep quality among compos mentis patients in the ICU. These findings emphasize the importance of nursing interventions aimed at reducing anxiety to improve patient sleep quality and support recovery.

Abstract

Patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) often experience physiological disturbances caused by both medical conditions and intensive treatment procedures. One of the most common problems encountered is sleep disturbance. Several factors contribute to poor sleep quality in ICU patients, including repeated medical procedures, environmental noise from medical equipment and staff activities, discomfort due to body positioning, frequent interactions with health workers, continuous exposure to lighting, pain, and the underlying disease process. Persistent sleep disturbances can delay the healing process, increase blood pressure, and even elevate the risk of stroke. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between anxiety levels and sleep quality in compos mentis patients in the ICU of Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang. The research design employed a correlational approach with a cross-sectional method. A total of 30 respondents were selected according to the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to measure sleep quality and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) to assess anxiety levels. The Chi-Square test was used for statistical analysis. The results showed an equal distribution of male and female respondents (15 each). Ten respondents had a post-laparotomy medical diagnosis, and the majority belonged to the late elderly age group (10 respondents). Most respondents experienced moderate anxiety (18 respondents), while poor sleep quality was reported by 17 respondents. The Chi-Square test revealed a p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant relationship between anxiety levels and sleep quality. In conclusion, higher anxiety levels were associated with poorer sleep quality among compos mentis patients in the ICU. These findings highlight the importance of nursing interventions that address both the physical and psychological aspects of patients to improve sleep quality and support recovery.

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between self-disclosure and quarter-life crisis among undergraduate nursing students at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Islam Sultan Agung Semarang. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, data were collected from 213 final-year students through validated self-disclosure and quarter-life crisis questionnaires. Descriptive analysis showed that most respondents had moderate to high levels of self-disclosure and experienced quarter-life crisis at low to moderate levels. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test revealed a significant association between self-disclosure and quarter-life crisis (p < 0.05). Students with higher levels of self-disclosure were more likely to report lower levels of quarter-life crisis, whereas those with low self-disclosure tended to experience higher crisis intensity. These findings indicate that self-disclosure functions as a protective psychosocial mechanism that facilitates emotional regulation, adaptive coping, and access to social support during the transition to adulthood. The study highlights the importance of strengthening interpersonal communication skills and providing supportive counseling programs to reduce developmental distress among nursing students. Promoting healthy self-disclosure may contribute to better psychological adjustment and academic well-being in higher education settings.

Abstract

Adolescent males are in a crucial developmental phase and are faced with social norms known as the Masculine Gender Role. This gender role often demands men to display strength, resilience, and Restrictive Emotionality (the limitation of emotional expression). The pressure to refrain from expressing feelings excessively, as it is often perceived to diminish masculinity, can hinder their emotional development. In the context of nursing, understanding this relationship is important to support mental health and promote healthy emotional expression in adolescent males. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the relationship between masculine gender role and emotional expression in adolescent males. Method: The type of research used was quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The subjects of the study were adolescent males at SMA Negeri 1 Sultan Agung Semarang. The sample size in this study was 304 respondents. The bivariate test used to analyze the relationship between variables was the Spearman Rank correlation analysis. Results: Based on the Spearman Rank correlation analysis, a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.968 was obtained with a significance value (p) of p < 0.01. This result indicates a very strong and significant negative relationship between masculine gender role and emotional expression in adolescent males

Abstract

Higher education institutions function not only as centers for the development of knowledge but also as platforms for shaping students’ character and personality. One important aspect of the learning process in universities is student involvement in campus organizations. Through these organizations, students have the opportunity to develop various personal potentials, such as leadership skills, time management, and communication abilities, all of which contribute to the formation of a positive self-image. This study addresses the importance of organizational involvement in the development of students’ self-image, particularly at Sultan Agung Islamic University, due to the limited number of studies examining this relationship in this context. This study uses a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consists of 130 students selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires that measured students’ organizational involvement and their self-image. The Spearman Rank test was used to analyze the data. The results show that 63.8% of students have a good level of organizational involvement, and 77.7% of respondents demonstrate a positive self-image. Statistical analysis indicates a p-value of < 0.001, signifying a significant relationship between organizational involvement and self-image. The correlation coefficient of 0.884 indicates a strong and positive relationship, meaning that the more active students are in organizational activities, the better their self-image tends to be.
