Abstract

The condition of the degraded PLTD Poka mangroves can affect the condition of fiddler crabs. For this reason, the study aims to invent fiddler crab species, analyze the density and frequency of occurence, and determine the ecological index of fiddler crabs in the mangrove ecosystem of PLTD Poka Inner Ambon Bay. Data collection of fiddler crabs (Uca spp.) in the PLTD Poka mangrove ecosystem in June–August 2023 using the purposive sampling method at all five stations The results of the study found four species of fiddler crabs, namely Uca mjoebergi, Uca perplexa, Uca vocans, and Uca vomeris, at five stations in the Poka mangrove ecosystem, which belong to one class, one family, and one genus. Overall, the species with the highest density was Uca perplexa, while the species with the lowest density was U. vomeris, with the highest density at station 5 and the lowest density at station 2. The highest frequency of occurence is represented by Uca perplexa, while the lowest is in the species Uca mjoebergi. The diversity of fiddler crabs in the Poka mangrove ecosystem is in the medium category, with species compatibility in a balanced state with low species dominance.

Abstract

Hutumuri waters have sea cucumber resources, but their utilization is still limited. However, there are exploitation activities of their habitat. Therefore, the community service activity was carried out, which aimed to provide knowledge and increase the role of SMP Negeri 8 Ambon students in conserving sea cucumber resources. The activity was conducted online by using various lecture methods, video playback, discussion and sharing of experiences by students, and provision of ebooks. The results of the evaluation by the pre-test and post-test indicated that the knowledge of students increased about the important of sea cucumber. It is expected that this activity will motivate students to be sustainable agent who play an important role to maintain the sustainability of sea cucumber resources and both coastal and marine ecosystems.

Abstract

The waters of Hunuth Village are one of the mangrove habitats Inner Ambon Bay. Still, as the population increases, various activities occur such as boat moorings and ships, which impact the growth and reduction of mangroves. The Community Service activity aims to provide knowledge and enhance the role of students from Christian Elementary School 1 Hunuth in preserving the mangrove ecosystem. Literacy education was conducted using a variety of methods, including lectures, video screenings, games, student storytelling, and the distribution of x-banners about mangroves. From the evaluation results through pre-and post-tests, there was an increase in knowledge, and it is hoped that through this activity, students can be motivated to become "sustainable ambassadors" playing an important role in maintaining the sustainability of mangroves in coastal areas.

Abstract

. The research was conducted in August-September 2024 in the Mangrove Ecosystem of Poka Village using the Belt Transect method on ten transects. From the research results, eight species of mangroves were found, namely Sonneratia alba, Sonneratia caseolaris, Bruguiera parviflora, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Avicennia alba, Aegiceras corniculatum, and Aegiceras floridum, which belong to four families and five genera. Rhizophora apiculata has the highest density value in the tree, sapling, and seedling categories. The highest frequency of presence in the tree category is represented by Sonneratia alba, while Rhizophora apiculata represents the sapling and seedling categories. The lowest density and frequency of presence in the tree and seedling categories are represented by Aegiceras floridum, while Avicennia alba represents the sapling category. The highest species coverage value in the tree category is represented by Sonneratia alba, while Rhizophora apiculata represents the sapling category. Based on the Important Value Index (IVI), it is known that Sonneratia alba has the largest contribution or role in the mangrove ecosystem of Poka Village for the tree category, while Rhizophora apiculata represents the sapling category.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze blue carbon potential and mangrove ecosystem management in promoting climate change mitigation in Indonesia. The collected data included mangrove area data obtained through the Indonesian National Ecosystem Monitoring System (SIMONTANA). This research calculated the carbon stock using the global average of mangrove carbon stock. The results showed that the total blue carbon stored in mangrove ecosystems reached 3,267.87 Megaton Carbon (MtC). Papua and Kalimantan regions contributed the most significant potential, with 1,707.22 MtC and 608.17 MtC, respectively. The absorption of carbon dioxide (CO2) reached 11,982.21 MtCO2e. The most significant CO2 gas emissions absorption was observed in the Papua region, amounting to 6,259.80 MtCO2e, followed by Sumatra with 2,118.59 MtCO2e. This high potential value correlated with mangrove ecosystem management policies, such as conservation, restoration, and blue carbon monetization. Mangrove management for climate change mitigation was carried out through national and international cooperation to achieve the 26% to 40% emission reduction target. The existing management model of mangrove ecosystems focused on improving ecological sustainability with less orientation on improving community welfare. Implementing blue carbon monetization at the district level by involving the community as the owners or managers of the mangrove ecosystems is crucial.
