Abstract

The increasing use of AI among students has transformed learning habits, often shifting from deep conceptual understanding to quick solution retrieval. Mathematics education in aerospace engineering requires innovative approaches to enhance students' conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills. This study implemented Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) for Aerospace Engineering Students (AES) using a design research methodology. It is focused only on the development of the hypothetical learning trajectory (HLT) in learning integration strategies for the first and second year of AES using artificial intelligence (AI). After working with the HLT during the first and second cycle, this study discovered that the students' high expectations of AI while solving integration approaches did not match. Students still require more assistance to grasp the AI answer, such as lecturer clarification or video explanation on YouTube. Students frequently use AI to solve problems without fully comprehending the actual procedure. Due to the time constraints, they use the AI answer immediately rather than paraphrasing it to their understanding. Consequently, we found that students realise their inability to depend completely on AI for deep understanding. As a result, AI is used to facilitate the recollection of existing knowledge or the confirmation of the final response rather than to understand new material. AI supports teaching but is not a substitute.

Abstract

Air transportation has a role in providing services to deliver people and goods in a relatively shorter time. Queues will increase due to the relatively low quality and quantity of service. This can happen at the Yogyakarta International Airport check-in counter. This research uses a comparison method between the queuing system and arena software. The queuing system used is a single channel-single phase.  The airlines that will be studied are Lion Air and Super Air Jet. The samples used respectively were 65 passengers and 61 passengers from Lion Air and Super Air Jet airlines. Data collection was carried out during peak hours. With this passenger movement simulation model, it is possible to determine the length of queue experienced by passengers at each check-in counter, the time to be served, and the check-in counter staff that must be provided. The length of time queuing for passengers for each airline is that for Lion Air the length of time queuing at the check-in counter is 18,6 minutes with an additional 1 officer from before and for Super Air Jet it is 28,5 minutes with an additional 1 officer from the previous check-in counter.

Abstract

The "realistic" concept in Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) is often confined to everyday contexts. In contrast, for aerospace engineering students, realistic mathematics should reflect the mathematical applications in their academic and future professional environments. This study aimed to design and evaluate instructional activities grounded in RME principles, integrating mathematics mobile applications to support conceptual understanding and reasoning. Using a design research approach, the study involved a questionnaire distributed to alums and third-year students, followed by two implementation cycles with first-year aerospace engineering students. The focus was on integral strategies in calculus, utilizing Photomath to bridge informal and formal mathematical reasoning. Results indicate that students engaged actively with the applications and demonstrated improved reasoning skills, particularly in inductive and imitative reasoning. This study highlights the potential of contextualized digital tools in supporting realistic mathematics learning in higher education. It suggests directions for aligning university-level mathematics with its practical applications in other disciplines, such as aerospace engineering.

Abstract

Giri Sembung Paragliding Hill, located in Banjarasri Village, Kulon Progo, is an emerging tourism destination managed independently by the local community. To support the capacity development of tourism actors, this community service program aims to design a modular and practical training model. The model consists of three complementary phases: (1) tourism communication training (English language), (2) digital promotion and content creation training, and (3) tourism management and service training. The implementation method adopts a participatory approach, grounded in field observations, discussions with local partners, and reflections from the initial phase of training. The developed model is flexible and can be implemented in stages according to the readiness of the community. Initial validation shows that the model is relevant, beneficial, and potentially replicable in other community-based tourism destinations with similar characteristics. This initiative is expected to contribute meaningfully to the professional development of community-based tourism actors and to enhance the competitiveness of local tourism destinations.

Abstract

It is hoped that the construction of the airport will have a real impact on the economy in the tourism, hotel, service industry and trade sectors for the surrounding community. The existence of the airport has an economic and social impact on the affected village which is the object of the training, namely Glagah Village in Temon District, Kulon Progo. To develop the economy, it is not only related to facilities and infrastructure, but also needs to be supported by human resources, one of whom is able to communicate using English. The English language skills of the village community around the airport are classified as being able to communicate but are still lacking based on the results of the pre-test given. There are still difficulties faced both in terms of listening English speech, understanding English reading, composing English sentences, and expressing ideas in speaking English. Thus, English language training is still needed to improve their quality. This community service activity is carried out in the form of training in the form of theoretical and practical exposure. The method used is Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). The activity took place 5 meetings with activity stages including warming up, core activities (speaking, writing, reading, and listening) and evaluation. Overall, it can be said that the activity was carried out well. It can be seen from the evaluation results distributed to training participants. All of them received a good response from the training participants. The participants' English language skills also increased based on the test results given to the participants.
