Abstract

The existence of the COVID-19 pandemic forces the Indonesian government to carry on online learning at all education levels, to keep the teaching and learning going on. For students, this ongoing online learning has brought about various impacts on their online learning success. One important factor determining online learning success is students’ interaction. Thus, paying more attention to whether an online learning environment has promoted the students’ interaction is crucial to creating successful online learning. This study aimed to investigate the dimensions of students’ interaction in the online listening learning environment. Moreover, this study also tried to explore how students perceived the interaction in the online listening learning environment. There were 78 students majoring in English Education as participants in this study. A convergent mixed-method was applied in this study, in which the results of the quantitative and qualitative data analysis were brought together. A modified questionnaire of OLLES (Online Learning Environment Survey) and a close-ended interview were carried out to gather the data. The results showed that the dimensions of interaction in the online listening learning environment had a statistically significant high rating. The interaction between the lecturer and the students placed the highest among all of the dimensions. Overall, all the dimensions of interaction in online listening learning were highly perceived by the students. The implications suggested that providing well-designed authentic materials, collaborative activities, and asynchronous models were needed to support the students’ online learning performance.

Abstract

Translating literary works such as novels, poetry, short stories, and dramas is widely conducted in Indonesia to introduce literature to the Indonesian people. In translating literary works, the transfer of messages from the source language must be appropriate and flexible in the target language because literary works have their aesthetic function, so translators need to have a broad knowledge of the qualified sociocultural background. Translators do not only translate meaning but also translate the values of literary works such as moral value and cultural value. The role of translators is to find out the equivalence in the target language and use their creativity to solve the non-equivalence in the target text. Equivalence is the main concept to achieve translation quality. This study aims to find the type of translation shift that occurred in the translated version of the children’s book entitled ‘The House at Pooh Corner’ based on Catford theory and to analyse the equivalence of translation according to Popovic. This research is qualitative research which applies content analysis. The data was collected through documentation. It is found that there are level shifts and category shifts in the translated version of The House at Pooh Corner. In addition, the types of equivalence found in this research are paradigmatic equivalence, stylistic equivalence, and textual equivalence. This research is expected to be used as the material for students to understand more about shifts and equivalence in literary translation

Abstract

Civic disposition plays a crucial role in shaping students into responsible and active citizens, but its characteristics in the school environment require further study. This study aims to analyze the civic disposition of junior high school students and the factors influencing its development. A quantitative survey method was used involving 120 seventh-grade students from three public junior high schools in Magelang, Indonesia. A structured questionnaire measured five dimensions of civic disposition: responsibility, participation, politeness, empathy, and patience. The results showed that responsibility, politeness, and empathy were in the high category, while participation was in the medium category, and patience was the lowest dimension. These findings suggest that although students possess good ethical and social awareness, they still need encouragement to participate more actively in civic activities and to increase their patience in social interactions. Civic education should prioritize the balanced development of responsibility, participation, and patience to strengthen students' overall civic character. Recommendations are provided for strengthening learning programs that foster moral character and encourage active student involvement.
