Abstract

Peresean is the traditional art of the Sasak people who fight two men (pepadu) by using weapons from rattan sticks and shields. This research uses a qualitative research method with an ethnographic approach. The results of this study indicate that the shift in the meaning of masculinity in society has been influenced by the times and changes that occur in society. In addition, the development of media and science is increasingly advanced. Where once the public interpreted men as masculine when in the art of performing a man could win the fight. At that time men have their own pride, prestige, unmatched men and dare to defeat the enemy. But now the meaning of masculinity has shifted, the masculine meaning for society that a man looks masculine in the arena of battle if he is able to control emotions during the game, able to play sportsmanship, not revenge after the fight ends, and able to establish friendship between players.Keywords: Masculinity; Tradition; Peresean. AbstrakPeresean adalah kesenian tradisional masyarakat Suku Sasak yang mempertarungkan dua laki-laki (pepadu) dengan memakai senjata dari tongkat rotan dan perisai. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan hahwa pergeseran makna maskulinitas pada masyarakat telah dipengaruhi oleh perkembangan zaman dan perubahan yang terjadi di masyarakat. Selain itu paekembangan media dan ilmu pengetahuan yang makin maju. Dimana dulu masyarakat memaknai laki-laki terlihat maskulin ketika dalam seni pertunjukan peresean seorang laki-laki dapat memenangkan pertarungan. Saat itu laki-laki memiliki kebanggaan tersendiri, prestise, laki-laki tanpa tanding dan berani mengalahkan musuh. Namun sekarang ini makna maskulinitas mengalami pergeseran, makna maskulin bagi masyarakat bahwa seorang laki-laki terlihat maskulin dalam arena pertarungan peresean jika mampu mengontrol emosi selama pertandingan, mampu bermain secara sportifitas, tidak dendam setelah pertarungan berakhir, dan mampu menjalin silaturahmi antar pemain.Kata kunci : Maskulinitas; Tradisi; Peresean.

Abstract

The change occurring in coffee consuming behavior cannot be apart from the effect of globalization development making the society behaving consumptively. It will result in various changes in the interpretation of coffee consuming behavior in the Semarang society. The objective of research was to find out the coffee consuming behavior, consuming society culture, and tragedy of coffee consuming culture among the coffee drinkers in coffee shops of Semarang City. The theory employed in this study was Jean P Baudrillard’s consuming society theory, Geog Simmel’s modern cultural theory, and Thorstein Veblen’s leisure class theory. This study employed a phenomenological approach, aiming to explore the motive and meaning of action in-depth concerning the coffee consuming behavior as the consuming society culture. The data collection was conducted using direct observation and in-depth interview.The result of research showed that the interpretation of coffee consuming behavior in Semarang society had changed. The coffee consuming behavior the coffee drinkers had could be seen from the actor or coffee drinkers, the activity the do, their appearance, reason of coffee consumption and coffee consumption place. In coffee consuming behavior, not only a cup of coffee was consumed but the coffee drinker also consumed prestige, social status, elegant and exclusive impression, and modern society lifestyle. In this case, what bought and consumed was no more than the signs embedded into consumption objects. The coffee consuming behavior was made to follow the modern society lifestyle emphasizing on prestige, although the coffee drinkers knew that what they consumed sometimes was not as they wanted, for example the taste of coffee beverage served was bitter because it derived from selected coffee seed. The difference of interpretation on coffee consuming behavior between one coffee drinker and another led to coffee drinker typification. The typification of coffee drinkers in interpreting the coffee consuming behavior was divided into two: opened-modern and closed-modern coffee drinker. Keywords: Consumption Behavior, Consuming Society Culture, Cultural Tragedy

Abstract

One important factor in the strategy of survival is social capital that is used to maintain survival and meet people's needs. This study aims to: (1) know in depth the forms and roles of social capital that occur in people's lives; (2) knowing the role of the community in developing social capital. This study uses qualitative research methods with an explorative approach. The research location is in Maria Village, Wawo District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province. The forms of social capital that exist in Maria village include 1) networks, which in the social network have cooperation, mutual cooperation, participation; 2) Trust held by the Maria community which creates a sense of shared ownership and honesty; 3) Social norms and values that have become a means of controlling attitudes and behavior of community members and fostering mutual tolerance among community members. The role of social capital as a survival strategy: 1) the establishment of social relationships / interactions among members of the community that can foster brotherhood, kinship and kinship; 2) the strength of social solidarity in the community; 3) trust in the community fosters mutual attitudes to help; 4) preserving traditions in the life of Mary's society; and 5) social values and norms which act as tools of social control. The role of the community in developing social capital: 1) the community participates in the development of social capital in Maria Village seen in cooperation or involvement carried out among community members such as youth organizations, youth mosques, village youth associations and so on; 2) the attitude of the community in developing social capital is very open, it is seen that the village community of Maria is open to change.Keywords: Social Capital, Strategy, Society. AbstrakSalah satu faktor penting dalam strategi bertahan hidup adalah modal sosial yang digunakan untuk menjaga kelangsungan hidup dan memenuhi kebutuhan masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui secara mendalam bentuk-bentuk dan peran modal sosial yang terjadi di dalam kehidupan masyarakat; (2) mengetahui peran masyarakat dalam mengembangkan modal sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan eksploratif. Lokasi penelitian berada di Desa Maria, Kecamatan Wawo, Kabupaten Bima, Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Barat. Bentuk-bentuk modal sosial yang ada di desa Maria antara lain 1) jaringan, yang mana di dalam jaringan sosial terdapat kerjasama, sikap gotong royong, partisipasi; 2) Kepercayaan yang dimiliki masyarakat Maria yang menimbulkan rasa memiliki bersama dan kejujuran; 3) Norma-norma sosial dan nilai-nilai yang telah menjadi alat pengontrol sikap dan tinggah laku anggota masyarakat dan menumbuhkan sikap saling toleransi antar anggota masyarakat. Peran modal sosial sebagai strategi bertahan hidup : 1) terjalinnya hubungan/interaksi social antar anggota masyarakat yang dapat menumbuhkan persaudaraan, kekeluargaan dan kekerabatan; 2) kuatnya solidaritas sosial di masyaakat; 3) kepercayaan yang ada di masyarakat menumbuhkan sikap saling tolong menolong; 4) melestarikan tradisi di dalam kehidupan masyarakat Maria; dan 5) nilai dan norma sosial yang berperan sebagai alat kontrol sosial. Peran masyarakat dalam mengembangkan modal sosial : 1) masyarakat ikut berpartisipasi dalam pengembangan modal sosial di Desa Maria terlihat dalam kerjasama atau keterlibatan yang dilakukan antar anggota masyarakat seperti karang taruna, remaja masjid, himpunan remaja desa dan sebagainya; 2) sikap masyarakat dalam mengembangkan modal sosial sangat terbuka, hal ini terlihat masyarakat desa Maria terbuka terhadap perubahan.Kata Kunci: Modal Sosial, Strategi, Masyarakat.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the cultural crisis among youths in tourism region. This study employed a qualitative research method with phenomenological approach. The result of research showed that the factors underlying the cultural crisis in Kuta society, particularly youths, are innovation or new invention in the society, dissatisfaction with the existing condition, openness to the change, and people’s poor consciousness of the preservation of cultures existing. In addition, it is also due to the cultural effect of tourist, the entry of globalization and modernization currents, government supporting more the organization of entertainment events leading to the fading traditions, and more sophisticated technology innovation and social media effect. Cultural crisis occurring in Kuta Village is inseparable from the effect of Kuta village as tourist destination. Such condition makes some of local cultures existing in Kuta changing. On the one hand, some original cultures of Kuta village are still maintained well and not mixed with or affected by external culture (e.g. various forms of art and customary rites). On the other hand, as a tourist destination to which the tourism lovers often come, either domestic or foreign, culture westernization occurs in this village. The westernization effect can be seen from the western-oriented life of tour guide, the youths’ fashion style, and tourist facilities resembling foreign lifestyle such cafes. Keywords: Cultural Crisis, Youth, Tourism. AbstrakPenelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui krisis kultural pemuda di kawasan pariwisata.Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor yang melatar belakangi timbulnya krisis budaya pada masyarakat khususnya pemuda kuta adalah adanya inovasi atau penemuan baru dalam masyarakat tersebut, ketidakpuasan dengan kondisi yang ada, sikap terbuka pada perubahan, kurangnya kesadaran pada masyarakat akan kelestarian budaya yang ada. Selain itu juga karena pengaruh budaya dari wisatawan, masuknya arus globalisasi dan modernisasi, pemerintah yang lebih mendukung dilakukannya ivent-ivent hiburan yang menyebabkan kesakralan suatu tradisi makin pudar, adanya inovasi teknologi yang semakin canggih, dan pengaruh media sosial. Krisis budaya yang terjadi di Desa Kuta tidak terlepas dari pengaruh desa kuta sebagai destinasi wisata.Kondisi tersebut mengakibatkan sebagian budaya lokal yang ada di Kuta mengalami perubahan.Disatu sisi masih ada budaya asli desa kuta yang terjaga dengan baik dan tidak tercampur ataupun dipengaruhi budaya luar, diantaranya berbagai bentuk kesenian, upacara-upaca adat. Namn disisi lain, sebagai wilayah destinasi wisata yang sering didatangi oleh penikmat wisata baik lokal hingga mancanegara, menjadikan perubahan budaya yang ada di masyarakat kuta mengalami westrenisasi. Berbagai bentuk pengaruh westrenisasi tercermin dari kehidupan guide tour yang cendrung kebarat-baratan, selain itu cara berpakaian generasi muda, fasilitas-fasilitas wisata yang menyerupai kebutuhan gaya hidup ala mancanegara seperti kafe-kafe. Kata Kunci:Krisis Kultural, Pemuda, Pariwisata.

Abstract

Culture is the product of human creation, feeling, and will. Culture is now shifting, for example, the shift of peresean tradition in Lombok sasak community. Through this study, the author is expected to find out the existence of peresean tradition and the meaning of peresean tradition to the community. This employed an explorative qualitative research method. The research took place in Karek Village, Praya Barat Daya Sub District, Lombok Tengah Regency. The subject of research was Darek villagers, in this case, taken using snowball sampling technique. The result of research showed that Peresean tradition is a traditional art of Sasak ethnic community in which two men are fighting against each other (pepadu) using weapon made of rattan stick and shield. In peresean tradition, there are rule and sanction in its implementation. Peresean performance is now conducted at certain times, e.g. on village or regency anniversary day, wedding party, low-season, RI independence day, or in guest welcoming event. Values contained in peresean tradition are life values including appreciating fraternity, friendship, economy, kinship, belief, culture, and art value. Meanwhile, the meaning ofperesean tradition includes a means of showing off man’s bravery, agility, and sturdiness, martial art, sportsmanship spirit, selfappreciation, establishing good relationship, and friendship. So, peresean traditional performance art in Sasak Lombok ethnic community has shifted viewed from its rule, meaning, and implementation time aspects.

Abstract

Hubungan masyarakat dengan alam semesta sangat erat. Masyarakat memanfaatkan alam untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidupnya. Masyarakat dalam berinteraksi dengan alam menggunakan nilai dan aturan-aturan yang nantinya menjadi adat istiadat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui secara mendalam integrasi alam dan budaya lokal masyarakat Sembalun Lawang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Lokasi penelitian berada di Desa Sembalun Lawang, Kecamatan Sembalun, Kabupaten Lombok Timur, Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Barat. Subyek dari penelitian ini adalah masyarakat di Desa Sembalun Lawang dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik snowball sampling (bola salju). Adapun proses analisis dilakukan dalam beberapa tahapan yang meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data dan kesimpulan/verifikasi data dalam bentuk laporan penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini adalah masyarakat Sembalun Lawang sendiri memiliki hubungan yang sangat erat dengan alam. Dimana pandangan masyarakat mengenai alam, alam harus diperlakukan dengan sebaik mungkin. Masyarakat sangat tergantung pada alam, baik dalam bidang ekonomi, dan pariwisata. Alam juga turut serta memberi dampak terhadap berbagai tindakan sosial yang dilakukan oleh manusia. Interaksi antara manusia dan lingkungan alam menimbulkan adanya nilai dan norma-norma yang telah disepakati bersama oleh masyarakat setempat. Untuk menjaga dan melestarikan alam dan budaya lokal dibutuhkan partisipasi masyarakat dan kerjasama dengan berbagai pihak, baik pemerintah maupun swasta.
