Abstract

The May 1998 rape is one of the historic events that has yet to be resolved. This event is portrayed in literary works as a sociocultural document. Seno Gumira Ajidarma as the author and journalist describes the incident through his short stories, namely "Clara" (1998) and "Jakarta, 14 February 2039" (1999). The short story about the rape in May 1998 is full of women's issues and gender injustice in society. This study seeks to uncover how female characters and the rape in May 1998 are depicted in short stories using a radical feminist literary criticism. Descriptive-qualitative method is used in this research. The results of the analysis show that the May 1998 rapes show a gender imequality, because women are seen as parties who have the right to be controlled by men. Even in the act of rape, women are only seen as an object. Because of the rape, female characters, both victims of violence and children born from rape, have to bear the severe trauma. This is in accordance with the radical feminist view that rape is the basis for men to practice their power and control over women, and the demand that women must regain control over their body autonomy.

Abstract

This community service is a collaborative activity carried out by the Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, together with Rumah Kita (Komunitas Peduli Bipolar Indonesia). The purpose of this community service is to build synergy in human resource development by providing literacy support to people with bipolar disorder. This community service takes the form of training for Rumah Kita members. The training materials covered expressive writing and creative writing as therapy, creative writing guidelines, and illustration as a complement to journaling. The results of the activity showed that the participants were very enthusiastic about attending each session of this community service. The participants were actively involved in discussions and practices facilitated by the committee and each presenter. Based on pre-test and post-test measurements of participants' knowledge and awareness of “Writing Therapy sebagai Penyembuh” and “Menulis Kreatif sebagai Terapi Jiwa” assessed through 13 indicators, participants' average knowledge and ability increased after receiving training and lectures from resource persons. This shows that this community service activity had positive results for the participants.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of women’s trauma and memory in Sasti Gotama’s novel Korpus Uterus through Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic perspective. The novel presents the female body, particularly the uterus, not merely as a biological entity but as a symbolic space in which pain, repression, fear, and resistance are articulated. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with close reading as the main technique of data collection. The data consist of narrative, monologue, and dialogue units that reflect traumatic experience, the re-emergence of memory, intrapsychic conflict, and ego defense mechanisms. The analysis focuses on the dynamics of id, ego, and superego in explaining how traumatic experience is repressed, negotiated, and brought back into consciousness. The findings indicate that trauma in the novel is closely related to power relations, moral stigma, and reproductive pressure imposed on women’s bodies. Memory appears as a psychological mode through which unresolved traumatic experience returns in emotional, symbolic, and behavioral forms. Thus, Korpus Uterus portrays the uterus as a symbolic site where bodily experience, psychic conflict, and social control intersect.
