Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini adalah sebuah kegiatan pelatihan dan pedampingan yang bertujuan untuk membantu dan mengembangkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam teknik penulisan akademis dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Permasalahannya adalah tidak semua mahasiswa di lingkungan  Fakultas Teknik yang memiliki kemampuan dan pengetahuan dalam penulisan akademis menggunakan bahasa Inggris yang baik. Mahasiswa masih memiliki kendala kompetensi dalam menulis akademis dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu, pelatihan dan pedampingan Academic Writing perlu diberikan  kepada para mahasiswa Fakultas Teknik. Kegiatan pelatihan dan pendampingan tersebut dilaksanakan di lingkungan Fakultas Teknik Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai dan dilakukan oleh tim dosen Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. Hal ini didasarkan karena kebutuhan mahasiswa untuk mengikuti Program Fast Track 3 + 2 yang dilaksanakan  oleh Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai dan Ming Chi University of Technology, Taiwan.  Metode yang digunakan dalam pelaksanaan pelatihan dan pendampingan Academic Writing  tersebut adalah metode intervensi, blended learning (tatap muka dan daring), eksplanatori (ceramah), drill, diskusi, tanya-jawab, dan pendampingan mahasiswa. Materi yang diberikan dalam pelatihan dan pendampingan Academic Writing  tersebut meliputi tata bahasa, struktur paragraph dan esai, serta cara membuat kutipan, summary, dan daftar pustaka. Hasil yang dicapai adalah mahasiswa memiliki pengetahuan dalam teknik menulis akademis dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris, mahasiswa mampu membuat kutipan, summary, dan daftar pustaka. Selain itu, pelatihan ini dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis mahasiswa dalam menulis bentuk karya tulis ilmiah dalam bahasa Inggris. Sehingga, pelatihan dan pendampingan tersebut berdampak positif bagi mahasiswa, khususnya dalam menyelesaikan tugas-tugas menulis menggunakan bahasa Inggris dan juga sebagai modal dalam menyusun tugas lainnya.

Abstract

The background of this research is the low understanding of the concept of multiplication in mathematics learning of grade III students. This study aims to improve the ability to understand the concept of socialization of class III students of SDN 003 Bangkinang. This study is a classroom action research (CAR) which is carried out in two cycles and each cycle consists of two meetings. The subjects in this study were all class III students totaling 26 students. Data collection techniques were in the form of observation, documentation and tests. While the data analysis technique used was a combination of quantitative data and qualitative data. Based on the results of cycle 1, there were 11 students who completed the study with a percentage of 42.30% with an overall average of 67.88 and at the second meeting it increased to 14 students with a percentage of 53.84% with an overall average of 72.19. While in cycle II, meeting I, there were 19 students who completed the study with a percentage of 73.07% with an overall average of 77.42 and there was an increase at the second meeting to 24 students with a percentage of 92.30% with an overall average of 87.80. Based on the results of this study, it shows that by applying Contextual Teaching and Learning learning, (CTL) can improve the understanding of mathematical multiplication concepts of grade III students at SDN 003 Bangkinang.

Abstract

Writing is a productive skill that involves expressing thoughts and ideas effectively in written form. However, mastering writing in English is often challenging. At SMA Negeri 1 Kampar Utara, students still face difficulties in developing clear and coherent text. It has been observed that the students struggle to organize ideas and construct well-structured writing. One of the contributing factors to these writing difficulties is the reliance on conventional teaching methods, such as the expository teaching method which tend to be teacher-centered, and result in low writing skill achievement. This study aims to investigate the effect of inquiry based learning on students' writing skill at SMA Negeri 1 Kampar Utara. Employing a quantitative quasi-experimental design, the research involved 52 students selected through a total sampling technique. The participants were divided into two groups : Class XI-1 as the experimental group class (26 students) and the Class XI-2 as the control group class (26 students). The sampling technique used was total sampling. The instrument of the research was writing test, data were collected though pre-test and post-test. The data analysis techniques include normality testing,homogeneity, and T-tests. The independent samples t-test obtained a t-value of 2.863 t-table 2.009 with significant value of p = 0.006 0.05, then H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. These findings demonstrate that IBL produced a statistically significant effect on writing skill compared to the expository teaching method. Thus, inquiry-based learning significantly enhances students' writing skill at SMA Negeri 1 Kampar Utara.
